My guess is that Ninja thought people would just use the luxe basket to make filter if they wanted a longer coffee. From a couple of videos I've seen though (most notably James Hoffmann's) the grinder isn't really very filter capable. The ironic thing is that, in the UK at least, not sure about the rest of Europe, making an americano is trivial without a water spout because EVERY household has a kettle.

Great video. I like that both you and Kev are really fair and not snotty about the Ninja. It’s a great machine! Is it an expert espresso maker? Probably not but it’s also by far the best machine available for people who want great coffee and milk drinks and not another hobby!!! Thanks for the pre-ground coffee info. That’s handy for the odd decaf. Glad it was reasonably good and not messing with the grind settings. The cold foam totally rocks!!! I have made several steamed milks and cold milk drinks with syrup and absolutely love the steam wand / swirly thing for anything milk. Hot chocolate with steamed milk is amazing too. Just for that I would buy the ninja again.

The thing I really like about this machine besides the price and incredible versatility, is that it is "consumer friendly." If you look on Ninja's website and search for parts for this machine, I counted 22 replacement parts available for consumer purchase. Just about anything you can remove without tools can be purchased and replaced easily. Also, they already have a parts page built for the upcoming ES701 as well, and you can buy the single shot basket there (when it becomes available) which I think should also work on the ES601/501 as well. Another thing worth noting is that the "funnel" that is available on the ES601 parts page is nowhere to be found on the ES701's parts page. Indicating to me that the ES701 will no longer need that silly funnel. (which is also what I thought from looking at the picture of it) 🙂 Making the ES701 well worth the wait IMO.

Got mine on release day in the UK and am loving it so far, strange they have decided to bring out other variants after the fact but this would have gone for the ES601 anyway I think. Not tried the cold drinks yet (Its October after all!) but no complaints. Great that you can change the strength to a 2:1 easily, turn off the beeps and reduce the milk temperature on the auto steam. Drip tray does fill up quickly but my biggest complaint is all the coffee I am getting through now! Oh also does a great job with oat milk, probably better than normal cow juice, very impressive.

Thank you for the perfect video as usual, Tom. I´ve found beans and the way how to make nearly perfect espresso of Italian type (for me) on Dedica 685 and I´m thinking where to move forward. I´m considering Barista Express Impress (maybe also without impress), but the Ninja Luxe Cafe looks also interesting (not good design, but great price, especially 501, what is enough for me, no cold brew). Oracle Jet looks also great (except the price). I´m little afraid to buy a machine that makes coffee not better for me than the existing cheap one.

This morning I'm drinking a coffee from a machine with an E61 group head, with fresh beans, ground from an expensive grinder. It didn't taste all that great, frankly. The thought of a machine that can crap out a decent-quality coffee without any hassle has suddenly become quite appealing.

@S1000rr-ryder can't fault it at all, everything still works as if it's still brand new. The only thing is the funnel that goes on the portafilter needs some improvements as its really brittle. Thank you for your informative videos. Unfortunately after a little over two months I just returned my machine for a replacement. At first it was great and made very good espresso. I use beans from a local roaster, and like you wasn't thrilled with wasting so many beans when swapping between my decaf hopper and regular. I like your suggestion of using pre-ground for decaf. But overall my machine stopped producing good espresso. No matter what troubleshooting I tried, my shots were almost undrinkable and bitter/bad tasking. I reset, cleaned, tried different ratios, temps you name it. I thought it was just me, but then found many others having similar issues as I was. My Barista assist consistently went from 12 down to 01 every single time I reset regardless of beans or age of beans. I see yours is not on 01. I'm hoping my replacement machine works better and continues to work after a few months. And side note, I didn't drop my funnel and it started chipping off just from putting it in the grinder. I wish they made it stainless steel or a stronger material.

I'm not sure if it's in the manual or if you noticed, but it will not "blip" the grinder motor when you make changes unless the portafilter is in place below the grinder. I pulled a shot and tried to make a change for the next time I used it without the portafilter in place since it needed to be cleaned up first. I'm going to look in the manual for that now since I might have missed that comment the first time thru.

I think the reason the EU model can do more things is because of 3 things 1 EU has 220V/16A so a max of 3500W per breaker/socket 2 all bugs the USA model has which customers complained about will be fixed/patched out. 3 Competition in the espresso market is much more fierce, especially when you realize you can get a top model super-auto for just about the same money, that can do just as much if not more than that machine

It doesn’t build confidence in Ninja aficionados. You feel punished for being the early adopter. The stuff omitted from the US market (hot water, Americano). Is just odd. Seems like it wasn’t thought through.
@Smitchen03 ай бұрын
Keep in mind that the motors will run better on 60hz then the 50hz. Also both eu and us systems require 1650 watts to run on max. On normal settings you won’t even come close to those wattages. In the us a kitchen circuit is 2400 watts at 20 amps which is generally enough especially since there must be 6 minimum circuits through out the kitchen by code. Although I am slightly jealous of the 220 single phase one leg setup vs out 120/240 single phase two leg setup haha

Very good video, as always. I am not a fan of this machine due to the unusual portafilter (I am rather "classic" in espresso) and little work space, but I appreciate the manufacturer's slightly non-standard approach. The pressure is 99% not adjusted, which can be seen through the water flow. The pump simply had no way to generate more pressure with this (pre-grounded) coffee. Maybe ask Ninja if they could send you a 701 model for testing? :p PS: Will you check out the new H10 Plus model from HiBrew? It seems like a game changer for the price.

Hey Tom, I’m completely new to your channel. I found you while I was browsing for a new machine. Your videos are pretty helpful in that regard. I’m still not sure which machine to get. I kind of narrowed it down to three machines. The Ninja Luxe in its highest iteration, the Delonghi Specialista and the Sage Barista (Touch). I am okay with a price of probably max 1.200€. As of right now I own a Siemens EQ700. I just don’t like the way it tastes anymore. The milky drinks usually have a watery taste to them. Do you have any recommendations for me? Within those series I’m okay with the different machines. I like to make some coffee for myself and visitor every once in a while. Actually nothing special but I’m still that kind of person that rather has the functionality instead of needing it. I gotta say though, Stuff like cold brew was never a thing for us. We don’t mind to just pour the hot espresso over ice. I am kind of “scared” of the Specialista since you’ve mentioned a few problems with it. And my first automatic machine was a rather expensive Delonghi which broke 4 TIMES and leaked Water all over my kitchen. So I am a little careful with that brand even though people swear on it. Their milk was the best in an automatic machine I have to admit. I would really love to get a response from you for either a recommendation or a tip.

@ Hey Tom, I did follow your recommendation with the La Specialista Touch. Can definitely recommend the machine if people are looking for some kind of automation. But I figured for me it’s a bit too much. Coming from a fully automatic I’m actually looking for a bit more manual „labor“. And one thing that really does get on my nerves is the fact that the coffee keeps dripping after a shot has been pulled. I don’t know if that’s my fault or if it’s due to the fact that there is no back flushing built in. So with this in mind. Do you have a new recommendation for me :D Looking for something different I guess. I found that I prefer heating and frothing the milk myself rather than using the automatic function of the machine. If the Sage Barista Express had an Baratza Grinder I would prolly go with that. The Pro is an option as well. Pleeaase help :D Thanks a lot

Hey Tom! Thank you so much for your insights! Since you are an engineer, how do you feel about the ES701? I cannot decide between the 601 and 701, since I get the impression of the 701 being built better (but I cannot confirm that). Also, it has the "improved steam wand", whatever Ninja may refer to with this. Also, I don't know how to feel about the tamping lever in terms of longevity etc. Do you have any deeper insights in the european models' diferences?
@jankoodziej8773 ай бұрын
It really doesn't make sense for it to be internally any different. The steam wand is probably the wider one that he says is going to be in all EU models (can't see that on pictures in Amazon now though). Overall I think the most expensive version is just to milk some more money from the richer consumers.

@@jankoodziej877It's for selling it to your wife that doesn't want the fuss of having to use a tamper. 😅
@TomsCoffeeCorner3 ай бұрын
I think the ES701 will be the same as the ES601 that I tore down. Just the steam wand looks beefier, which makes me think they added a line inside it, to make it non-burn. But yes, we will have to see how the tamper has been implemented.

Hi Tom, I’m a little confused. Does the ES601 have a hot water dispenser? Thank you

Hi there! The US one doesn't. But apparently the European models do. I have yet to confirm it though. Cheers!

I have the 601 in the UK and it already has hot water for tea etc and single shot capabilities? Weird
@TomsCoffeeCorner27 күн бұрын
That's because the EU models came afterwards.
@ThePupil26 күн бұрын
Does it also have other functions like lungo? any other extra settings perhaps for quad?
@8luesman26 күн бұрын
@ Yes to Lungo. Options we have are single basket, double basket and luxe. Espresso, quad, americano, cold-pressed, classic coffee, rich, over ice and cold brew and straight hot water. Not sure if this differs to other models.

Any idea if the 701 will come out in America or if it's just a UK option?

Hey Tom, hope everything is great. I have a question. I'm using delonghi dedica for making coffee at home and I highly benefitted from your videos in the past. I wonder whether a problem the delonghi machine has can be solved or not. So the problem is, after pulling a shot and stopping the flow, the machine keeps leaking for a while and leaving water/coffee drops for about a minute. For example I'm aiming to pull 36g of coffee but when I push the button and stop the brewing at 36g, it continues to give coffee and suddenly I end up with 45g of coffee in my cup, which is quite annoying. Hope I explained my problem clearly. I know dedica does this because it's a very entry-level machine and cannot stop the flow instantly because of the mechanism it has, but can it be prevented somehow to pull consistent shots, I wonder. Thanks in advance!

Hi there! That's the residual pressure still acting on the puck. I just swap out cups at 36 grams, to catch the remaining drips. Cheers!

In this machines there is a valve that fail after a time. You can check that

When ES701 will available in Canada?

Oh gosh, I don't know. It seems to not be available anywhere yet. Probably 2025.

@@TomsCoffeeCorner That is my conclusion too. The number for Canadian will be ES701C, like the ES601C which is unavailable too.

How is the drip coffee quality compared to other machines and aeropress, chemex, etc? I don't drink espresso drinks but I'm looking for a machine with as little oversight and maintenance as possible that can make close to "pour-over quality" coffee.
@TomsCoffeeCorner3 ай бұрын
It's not close to pour over in my opinion. It's more like brewed drip coffee, and it's kind of muddled. But as a secondary function it's decent.
