I had a very interesting conversation with a guy working in a museum in Kirkwall. * To be fair, that seems to be the case in most countries I have been to, and not all of them have a reason like "the church deliberately tried to get rid of it 200 years ago".

I used to live in Louisiana, and I must say I was always a bit baffled by the logic behind the idea of the drive-through daiquiri establishment, in a place where drinking while driving was just as illegal as anywhere else. Not too baffled to prevent my ever patronizing said establishments, but baffled nonetheless. A similar concept I found much easier to get behind, however, was that of the daiquiri kiosk in the local shopping mall. Interestingly enough, it was the one time in my life I found myself more than happy to grant a girlfriend's request to tag along as she went shopping... "Oh, never mind me, love; take all the time you need . . . I'll just be over here by the, um, food court..."
