Logseq and Obsidian mostly, though I do also use Simplenote when mobile. I do have an Evernote account but am now thinking that this would be a good place for me to collect things, like videos and articles!

I use Good Notes for marking up PDFs, and signing documents etc. It works fantastically for this. I use Apple Notes for everything else, especially jotting down quick notes etc. The tap on the screen of an iPad that's asleep into a new note is awesome and all I need. I try to keep things simple.

Keeping it simple is key! 100% agree!

Hello Tom, I use Evernote since about 8 years; I have 7.000 notes in my account. Because Evernote has become slower in opening the home screen I tried a lot of other note-taking apps and file cabinets like Notion, Nimbus Notes, Google Keep, AirSend, Trello, Airtable, Apple Notes … but I always come back to Evernote. Why? Because of their good search engine (best OCR), their forwarding important e-mails to the EN-account (in premium version), the best web clipper there is, the internal links to other notes inside my account, the good structure (stacks, notebooks, tags), the sharing of notes (every note has a URL), the pdf scanner (Scansnap) gives better quality than a pdf made from a picture … Notion has nice desktop layout but is too difficult for me and it is impossible to print a note without making it first a pdf file.

Thank you for this video. I am retired and had come to a similar conclusion. I am using apple notes on my ipad to organize my life and Evernote capture, store and retrieve on my Android phone. It is always a work in progress. I like Carl Puelin’s idea of emailing finished Apple Notes to Evernote for storage, Am also begining to play with CHAT GPT for creating content.

Great discussion, Tom. 4:00 that is precisely the reason why I continue with Evernote - it is an extremely capable document dump if there's the slightest chance I may need to access the document someday. I use legacy versions on Android and PC and document dump everything. Evernote's logo is an elephant, but in my mind the logo should be a bloodhound - because it searches so well.

Ha! Love the bloodhound analogy 😁👍

My 2 cents remark; although I'm using iPhone for a personal reason, around the world Android OS is over 75% of phones users and mostly sync with Windows. Most note app used is Samsung Notes more than Apple Notes. I'm using Apple notes On-the-go-capturing, but for long-term storage, Evernote / Onenote are better because they are multi system use. I have had a rule for 20 years plus, not to use an app that is not multi-platform. I don't like to be locked.

Have you ever setup Focus Mode on your iPad for the different rooms or locations that you’re in? That way you can select what specific apps you need there and cut out the rest. You don’t have items from your living room in your home office…

When you think about it did people have this follow the leader mentality before all these digital tools were created? Were they buying the exact same office supplies as their previous mentor? How and when did all of this start?

When migrating my medical notes from Evernote to Apple Notes the AN crashed and I’ve lost an important note. How can I Do? Apple doesn’t support specific app users. Its like im not their customer. So my advice: take care with this migration.
@ajordangr2 жыл бұрын
I believe an aspect frequently skipped in note taking apps reviews is the infrastructure setup, meaning cloud only (or first) vs local synced. Why mention that ? Because for me EN used to be my note taking app (and not only document storage) and since latest version the app is unresponsive, hanging during a meeting, which is why I ended up switching it.

Great video. Thank you for taking the time to post it. I've been paperless for years now and I also use both Evernote and Apple Notes. Apple Notes is great for quick note-taking from my phone (ideas, gift lists, shopping lists, etc). I use Evernote for paperless activities. I'm thinking of dumping Evernote though.. Several years ago they dropped the feature where you can store offline files. I still have an offline folder somewhere on my machine and will need to dig it up. Annoying. There are some files I simply don't want on some insecure cloud service. (Evernote still doesn't offer D.A.R.E. That's a deal-breaker for me.) Apple Cloud is also problematic but that's another discussion. My question is more about tags versus folders. I have this issue where I store tax files throughout the year (such as a donation list). Unfortunately, I will often mistag these. Either I forget to put "Tax" or I put the wrong year "Fiscal YYYY". This is costly because when tax season comes I don't see it in my search (i.e. "Tax" + "Fiscal YYYY"). Essentially the note gets lost. Any recommendations? I'm starting to think that simply using the file system and nested folders is the way to go. Some files can stay on my computer and others on Dropbox or Apple Drive.

How often do people try to pick the best or most popular productivity app out of a group of apps instead of first trying to figure out what office supply in the room they’re in they want to replace and then figure out what app or digital tool can best meet their needs they had with that object?

Yes, the Apple Notes has really improved and "pay less for ever" argument stands of course... However if you want all the Goodies of the newest version of Apple Notes you will also need to spend hundreds of Dollars/Euros to upgrade your devices because only the newest devices do support this new version of apple notes. I am talking about iPad and iPhone and may be also MacOS. The beauty about Evernote is that you get all the newest functions and features on ery stabile and good old versions and devices across multiple platforms. So for the price of 3-4 coffees in the restaurant a month (which you probably have any way...) you will be able to save a lot of money and stay sustainable in matter of environment matter also, since you do not have to bin all the good old infrastructure.

Using a bunch of different "optimized" apps, each with its idealized use case is not "keeping it simple". I'd much rather compromise to the extent allowable for each use case... and use only 1 or 2 apps.

Nowadays all the best I can have Apple delivers to me. My only place to find everything is Spotlight. Apple’s automation is amazing. I abandoned Evernote and Android/Windows and it was the best thing I did. For me Evernote is interesting only for those who cannot use Apple or are working with people who use various platforms in a common project. I don’t even need a workflow anymore.

I restarted using One Note from Mocrosoft. Separate notebooks for every big aspect of my life & work. For urgent notes I use Apple notes with a few folders and tags. Evernote has become a mess of data and terrible UI& lots of unsuited management tool for this kind of data base. One note is simple, no tags, curated by me.

Looks like that I scatter my information all over the place. However, it’s defined what information goes where so I have max relevant information available whenever I need it. I run a complex business/life and this is actually the simplest setup for it 😅 For others one tool might be just enough to do it all. If you can do everything in OneNote, then this is great! Don’t make things more complex than needed. However, as soon you are working for a company you start to do the same, adding information to the company’s defined Project Management systems. The issue is, in many cases the tools are not properly setup, and no conventions in place, so employees are forced to use their own tools in addition to the tools provided by the company.

You get what you pay for. If you don’t pay, then who pays for the evolution and update of the application? Can you expect it to survive? Unless, of course, they are selling information about you. And I would prefer to pay directly, not indirectly
@bananasoda9022 жыл бұрын
@@TheEternalTraveller I don't care if they can survive. Free note apps fulfill most people's needs for taking notes. Do they selling our information? I think all apps may. If your worried about they selling your information, why risking to use an extra app and not using a built-in phone app? Apple notes are pretty good though.
@TheEternalTraveller2 жыл бұрын
@@bananasoda902 understand that if your use is “casual” then whether they survive is not important. If it is someone’s primary source of storing important information, it is another story. Agree AppleNotes is now excellent, having recently added much functionality. But if I already have 7,000+ notes in an extremely good tool, I see no reason to migrate. And, in spite of the improvements in AppleNotes, I still find Evernote a closer fit to my personal needs and way of working
@kyeh45512 жыл бұрын
