Great review! I just ordered the Plus on a good sale for $60. This will be my first wireless therm after using the Thermoworks Smoke for quite a while

Thanks for the review, I opted for the single probe and I think you solidified the confidence in my choice.

What are your thoughts/experiences with TempSpike Plus in monitoring AMBIENT temperatures? I have read several negative reviews regarding ambient temperature inaccuracy, but I think that may stem from the fact that the probe is much closer to the grate versus, say the built in thermometer on a grill or a dedicated wired ambient probe that might be sitting further away from the heat source.

Hi, thanks for your question. I think I need to make a video about ambient temperatures. It seems to be a common question. Your grill/oven gauge is lying to you in a sense. It’s measuring the temperatures as the heat rises to the gauge on a grill for example. The thermometers are measuring the heat at source of the food with all the variables such as moister, evaporation, and convection. It’s normal to see a 50-100 degree difference in temps. Now if it’s wildly inaccurate and showing a 300+ difference. Something is wrong either with the gauge on the bbq or the thermometer.

@@tomwadek Ok with that being said, what ambient temp should I go with? Grill or TempSpike Plus?

@@gegarza TempSpike as long as the difference isn’t too big. What temp difference are you seeing
@gegarza10 ай бұрын
@@tomwadek I’m seeing about 50 degree difference so it’s a bit nerve racking to see that, just not sure which one to “trust”, especially on a longer cook, where 250 vs 300 can make a difference over several hours.

If I put the probe in the oven without sticking it into the meat. And the temperature in the oven is 400 degrees Fahrenheit, will it ruin the probe? Will the internal sensors or even the entire microcircuit and battery of the probe be ruined?

Yes

have you tested or compared to the ChefIQ smart thermometer?

You can adjust the app. You can also move the base away from the grill and extend your range to the phone

Adjust the app how? Where’s the graph? Where’s the easy temp control?

Chef IQ Smart Thermometer? Costco has two probe version for $99... I am wondering what is better: TempSpike Twin or Chef IQ. Chef IQ has 3 internal sensors, WiFi and unlimited range... but! You have to create profile. Even to use Bluetooth only. Probably they want to know what you cook, when you cook and how often. I don't like this kind of spying.

I don’t have any experience with chef IQ. Sorry
