Did I miss pronounce TOMY? Also, many comments asking where to buy this Enterprise. So I'm going to put up the info I currently have and pin it to the top: Tomy Crowdfunded this project last year. With that offering closing July 24, 2022. This was a limited production based on the number ordered by the backers. us.tomy.com/prestige-select-1-350-star-trek-enterprise-34-inch-die-cast-metal-replica/ startrek.tomy.com/enterprise.html *But you may still be able to buy one direct from Tomy via their TOMY Outlet store. Any Excess units that become available will be offered there. If interested, you must Call them to get on the waiting list ASAP! (563) 875-5613. Other option is via 3rd party resales like on ebay. But they are listing them for 2 to 3 times original cost when I looked. www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2332490.m570.l1312&_nkw=tomy+enterprise&_sacat=0 Stay tuned to TOMY as they hinted at doing other Star Trek ships.

In the episode To Boldly Go Pt 2 of Star Trek Continues, the Enterprise's saucer separated from the secondary hull to fight the U.S.S CONGO under the control of Lana, Sentek and about 2 dozen uplifted espers after emerging from the great barrier. Watch the 2nd part of the episode and you'll see what I mean.

Trivia note: although the saucer section could be separated from the engineering section, it was via the use of explosive bolts. They had to have Starfleet Core of Engineers to reattach the two sections.

Looks Great! I only have one problem with it. I noticed this on another's KZbin and see it here also. The orientation of the bridge is wrong. Remember the turbo lift is to the left of the captain. The round part behind the bridge is the turbo lift. Therefore, when the crew is looking at the view screen they are actually looking to the left by about 20 degrees or do not forward center. Someone forgot about that detail.
@TheRealCobraBurnout
@TheRealCobraBurnout Жыл бұрын
I was wondering if someone would mention this. What is interesting in the original pilot with Capt Pike, the bridge was oriented straight. The do a camera angle from outside the ship that shows the bridge from the top dome. That bridge also had a window in front. The viewsceen was intended as an enhancement over the real window. Of course we all know the bridge was simply offset from turbo lift doors to allow better camera angle. Many inconsistencies with TOS as they were focused on filming and budget.

Very cool! My only concern is that the plastic base and mounting supports seem kinda flimsy for something with that much weight. If I got my hands on one, I'd probably fabricate a base made out of brass and wood, and retool the attachment points between the saucer and secondary hull to beef them up. Now if I could only get my hands on some transparent aluminum for the mounting braces, it would be indestructible.

I figured that the saucer section would need a support stand of some kind since it is probably top heavy. Thanks for showing this. Was always curious what the finished product would look like. Back in the early 1990s, Star Trek Magazine had an ad for a crowd funded TNG Enterprise-D which was supposed to be made of brass. fully lit and painted. Had a crazy price tag of around 2 grand if I remember correctly. Don't know if the project ever got customers or what had happened to the original offer. I think the FANHOME Build the Enterprise D took over that idea which has to be put together by those who purchased the subscription kit. Awesome model, thanks again for sharing.

I think this is the best way to own the 1/350 scale TOS Enterprise, I was going to do the Polar Light build but I decided not to, I could never paint and light the ship this good, so I think I will just do as you did here and purchase this Version, I did build the 1/350 Re-fit and that alone took me a year plus, to accomplish and still half my lighting still does not work, but it's all sealed up and painted so I mostly display as a Static model, but this Model would look great next to my Re-Fit, so I will look this up, I'm sure it's not cheap, but hell all the work is done for you, specially since I'm a horrible model builder,

It was remarkably inexpensive compared to other replicas of the same size. $500, much less than other offerings at $1200 or $2K by another company back in the day (forget the cost and company--sorry!) It also lit up with moving Bussard collectors, but the motors to move them are loud compared to Tomy's version (assuming from the noise in the video). That version though is significantly lighter than Tomy's and only requires the one thin stand. I still have to make the pilgrimage to the Smithsonian to see the restored original model. Last time I saw it was in the early 80's and it was hanging from the ceiling looking a little worn.

Looks amazing. However, the neck section is supposed to detach with the saucer (not stay with the star drive section). It acts as the rear landing leg. On the underside of the saucer in each forward quarter there are two long thin triangles. These are the hatches for the forward landing struts (there is no rear one). At least, that's what the concept art and technical manuals depicted.
@Sattracer
@Sattracer Жыл бұрын
I can only remember one of the episodes where the saucer section was referred to as separable from the drive section. "The Apple" is the one I remember. Beams from the surface were very intensely attacking the Enterprise causing it's orbit to decay. Kirk told Scotty to "Discard the saucer and crack out of there with the main section.".
@Sal-T
@Sal-T Жыл бұрын
Kirk was throwing out crazy ideas because they needed to get out of there, but the warp driver were offline. He wasn't talking about disconnecting the saucer section, but to shed weight to get the ship out of orbit. I don't think he meant to literally do it, but more 'do anything you need to in order to get the ship out of the decaying orbit' KIRK: Then use your imagination. Tie every ounce of power the ship has into the impulse engines. Discard the warp drive nacelles if you have to, and crack out of there with the main section, but get that ship out of there!
@SiXiam
@SiXiam Жыл бұрын
The two episodes talk about nacelle separation, not the saucer from the stardrive. That said even that makes little sense because one of the episodes had an antimatter seal failing, which wouldn't be in the nacelles.

The lights are run I believe quarterly to save the light motors in the bussard collectors. Still it looks marvelous. This here from TOMY is a wonderful piece to have. I remember in The Apple it's mentioned but I am not aware of another episode. The model is very impressive. I love the size for sure. Pretty close to the 3 foot scene in the early publicity pictures. Only thing I didn't like is the use of blue lights in the nacelles. I don't ever remember seeing blue in those. In fact probably not as it might have cause problems with the optics.

I really dig this one. I haven't had a chance to see the restored Enterprise at the Smithsonian with working lights yet. I saw it when it was in the basement many years ago. But vids I've watched you can see blue in the bussard collectors if that is what you are referring to? Either way, I know I was kind shocked seeing the "pre latest restore" version. Gridlines and weathering I never remembered from the TV series. But then again, how much showed up on those broadcasts? Now we have the digital version of the ship. I need to pick up copies with the original model footage.

It's beautiful. Amazing details. I would love to see the Refit Enterprise in this scale and details. Would buy one if I could.

"The Apple" and "The Savage Curtain". Although iirc they do not explicitly talk about separating the saucer section, but rather jettisoning the warp drive/waro nacelles. However, the design of the ship makes it obvious that the saucer sections was intended to be capable of operating independently,

I funded that the day it went public. Got mine a couple days ago. Unfortunately, I've nowhere to display it, so I have to have a custom piece of furniture made for it first. Along with a custom piece for my Lego Super Star Destroyer that I just got today too. I'ma need to build a collectible room with an attached house pretty soon!!

I saw a post on Facebook about this earlier today. Seeing it in a video is much more impressive, so thank you! It makes me wish I had $600 USD to blow on a toy.

I think they mentioned it in the episode 'The Apple'. I could be wrong though. I can't think what the other episode was in TOS where they mentioned it.
