In this tonal values and contrast painting of Sourlies in Scotland, you draw beautiful light gray mountains in the distant and dark brown in front. Beautiful light in the middle of this painting. Thank you for showing the difference between using clean tissue and used one on dark clouds for small white and pretty ones. This is a very interesting demo. and I thank you Steven.

Steven this is a lovely painting with a lot of contrast as you wanted to do. You have realized in this painting everything you wanted to for the tonal values of the hills, the layers and explanations with easy words to understand. All that are wonderful teachings which help us a lot in improving our artworks. I am very grateful and thank you Steven.

Beautiful painting with all the dark colors of sky and the light in the middle of page. Small mountains in the distance and big ones in front. Nice colors of sky, specially the bright one reflect beautifully on sea. Two lands on both sides as well as foregrounds with their pretty rocks. A little yacht in the distance bring some kind of movement. Thank you Steven for sharing once more to show us how to improve our artworks

from a beginners point of view - one who is yet to learn to just have a go, watching you as you explain and paint is really helpful. It would be nice to know what sized brushes you used? It would also be nice to see your brush as you mix your colours to know how much water was added?

Thanks for watching. I think with any medium it's a case of the more you practise the easier it gets whether you're using oils, watercolours or any other. All mediums have their pros and cons. It just a case of giving it a go and seeing whether it suits your particular style. The paper is Fabriano 130lb cold pressed 15" x 11". Best of luck with your art.

Hi Steve. Love your videos. I've just moved over to tubes from pans and got myself a hake. However my brush won't keep its bristles together. I wet the brush to bring them together and then all my subsequent colours seem so weak. Maybe I haven't let my paints dry on my pallete for long enough? Thanks in advance if you happen to see this. Have a good day!
@StevenCronin10 жыл бұрын
Adam Morrey it is difficult and takes a lot of practise but eventually you'll get the compromise of enough water on the brush to hold the hairs together but not too much to dilute the colours. Best of luck Adam.

Hello, I really like your videos. I had no experience with any painting! I have bought the brush and paper you have recommended. I am wondering about the whole stretching the paper thing. Do you stretch yours? What are the clips for and what sort of board are you using to paint on. Sorry for the 101 questions I really have zero experience! X thanks
@StevenCronin9 жыл бұрын
Kayleigh Sutherland I don't stretch the paper beforehand but do so as I start to paint. First I wet the paper all over evenly and after a couple of minutes when I've got the sky in the paper has stretched so I undo the 2 clips on the right hand side, pull the paper tight and reclip it. The paper is clipped to a 9mm piece of plywood that holds it steady.
