I lived in Tonbridge for a few years in the 1980s, a year at Sussex Road County Primary, then 5 years at Hugh Christie School. It's interesting to see what has changed in Tonbridge (Taco Bell where McDonalds used to be- I remember when McDonalds first arrived). I used to get a haircut in a tiny barbers shop that was on the bridge next to the railway station. I think it was was £1 a cut! The Chinese restaurant near the Station has always been there. I lived around the corner in Danvers Road. The library was always very good, but the best of Tonbridge is around the castle, river and playing fields, plus the historic and very attractive Tonbridge School. I used to go canoeing on the Medway and explore 'Tinkers Island'. Happy days!

I went to both Sussex road and Hugh Christie too! I would have been at Sussex road in 1980.

Thank you for your reply , I lived there for several years as a little girl and your wonderful video brought back many happy memories. I sometimes still dream about it little flash backs , so it was quite special to see things that I had forgotten and also how little has changed around the castle area. But understandingly the high street looks very different. Thank you for doing that . I hope to go back for a day out there again one day , Your video has inspired me. I like the gentle pace you took looking around . It is a beautiful little town .

I lived in Tonbridge for 50yrs and only left 3 years ago. Not much has changed judging by this walk apart from Taco Bell and Wimpy lol. The walk around the castle was beautiful, thank you for the nice memory that I can revisit. Tonbridge is an attractive place from the castle bridge down, the station end is sadly rather grim 😔

I don't miss Tonbridge but I was born there in 75. The kebab shop displaying 'best kebabs in kent' is 100% correct though.

I went to school called Dean park in the in the around 1973 from Scotland it was out side tonbrage.

Have to say it wasnt until we moved away from Tonbridge that i realised how bad the traffic is now in Tonbridge

I might move to Tonbridge but Tunbridge Wells seems so much nicer and higher class. However, I can't afford the prices there. Can anyone recommend a nice area to live in Tonbridge?

I lived at 50 Pembury Road, Tonbridge from 1954 to 1965 when my parents emigrated to Sydney, Australia. Our home was a police supplied home one of I believe 4 in a row, my Dad was a motor cycle policemen. I went to St Stephen’s infant school then St Stephen’s Primary school and finally Tonbridge County Secondary School for boys. I was also in the Tonbridge sea scouts and sea cadets, miss the place even though I now live in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney.
