The Tonewood Amp has been recommended to me many times. The folks at Tonewood were kind enough to send me a demo model. This unit is completely unassuming.
Installation was super easy, and it did not mark the finish on my guitar. I was intimidated to install it but am surprised at how easy and seamless it went. Once installed, it was extremely user-friendly. I see this as a very useful, creative tool.
In this video, I'll show you the delay setting and some reverbs, all which come directly from the back of your guitar. Once installed I abandoned all instructions and just had fun messing around and tinkering with it.
The Tonewood Amp was featured in Acoustic Tuesday Episode #70 along with many more guitar geek discoveries.

Yes, this amp is outstanding, but I feel inclined to say something about this gentleman (Tony) who hosts this show. He's a flat out natural when it comes to speaking and speaking into a camera. I doubt he went to acting school, or whatever, but he could easily be on mainstream television. Good looking (I'm an old guy/family guy - please no jokes) who is super well spoken. And yes, he's a first rate guitar player. Total package. Kudos.

@@speaksistereasy4504yes, up to 3 decibels or more - but is guitar dependent. Just don’t expect anything that will make a very muted guitar cut through a loud jam session.

I first was exposed to you via the internet when I was looking for a Martin Terz guitar (which I subsequently found). You were talking about online guitar lessons and I remember thinking how good you were at presenting your material-clear voice and enunciation, etc. Since then, I’ve seen you off and on in KZbin clips and wanted to tell you it’s a joy to watch you, and you play really good guitar. Thx for this review. I will try it. I’m hesitant about buying something that does what I already have. But this looks kinda unique.

Hiya Tony & Noah...I have the tonewood amp & ur right it is a lot of fun..You can also connect it to your computer & download other effects so they are available ..I did the other day and it exchanges chorus for the overdrive effect which isn’t a bad thing..BTW seriously digging the shows....learning a lot...cheers

Wish I had seen this before I spent a grand on a transacoustic! Although, I do absolutely love that guitar. For a Yamaha, it’s really well made and sounds beautiful without the reverb settings

I really liked the video, I think the tone wood amp is really cool! That being said, I really like the hat you have on in the video as well! I've been a fan of that team since, well this will definitely date me, but I've been a fan since Bobby Hull, Stan Mikita, Tony Esposito and if I'm not mistaken Tony's brother Phil, was a Black Hawk in the mid 60's up until I think 67', which would have been around the time I started watching as a very young 7 year old boy. I think in 1976 the Hawks got Bobby Orr from the Bruins but by then Orr was pretty much a done deal and didn't really contribute much once the Hawks got him. Too bad, he was definitely a force to be reckoned with when he was in his prime. As you can probably tell I was a huge Hawks fan when I was a kid. I watched as many games as I could, and even went to watch them train. They trained at a rink near where I lived and we could ride our bikes there and watch occasionally. Anyways, I digress, but your hat sparked a lot of nice memories for me when I was a kid.

I get it, it’s awesome, but how does it pair with a vocal? I would think I would make an accompanying vocal sound thin and weak with no reverb. Any feedback regarding this?

i wonder how much more louder the guitar sounds, i know its installed for effect purposes only but still i would like to know if it makes the guitar sound louder at least somewhat?

Hi. I'm a composer and sound-engineer from Bent, New Mexico. To answer, It would probably make the guitar louder a bit because the vibration-speaker is vibrating on the back of the guitar, and therefore that surface is naturally amplifying the vibrations of the vibrating surface. Same things as the Boogie Board LCD drawing tabets; it's competely new tehnogy, so almost no one (even this guy who was worried it might sound "hokey" is having a hard time understanding what the amp does, and what actual acoustic implications the amp creates. Mercedes Benz (or BMW, was it?) is you coming out with a car who's inner walls actually vibrate music all the passngers and driver. It's now 2020, and i predict that in just few years every one's gonna have one of these. My interest is how it can be applied to vocals and other acoustic instruments. This technogy will change acoustic perforomance completely, if pushed in a healthy direction.

Hi Tony, I've had a Tonewood amp for a year now and I Love It! It's nice to take out in some nice secluded spot and play away. I have also used it when plugging into another amp. I have found the battery life is 8 to 12 hours. I do take out the batteries when not in use and it seems to make them last longer. Also want to get some rechargeables as well. Yeah, his 1/4 plug is in his strap peg I thought the same thing, that I could slap it onto any acoustic but the effects dont come through very easily without the electronics

I have a Taylor is mini and as I'm sure you know, the back of the guitar isn't exactly flat!!! Do you think the magnets would hold on a gs mini?? Love the channel BTW!

Great point you bring up here, I would actually contact Tonewood Support as they may have a fix for more arched back guitars. I didn't try mine on a mini so I can't confidently answer if it works or not :-) Thanks for watching the show and channel!!! Cheers!!!

I just saw this answered on the Tonewood support page, here's what they say: "You're unable to combine the two in their entirety, but every non-reverb effect, save for tremdelay, have reverb built into the parameters so you're able to run delay, Leslie, auto-wah, overdrive, with reverb simultaneously.

You can control the effect volume from subtle to fairly audible so ultimately it's up to the user to decide how much effect is coming across :-)

hmmm, takes up a large space on the back of the acoustic. so if u want to move the body to a diff position, the tonewood will be in the way. not a good place to have it and too large atm.

The Tonewood amp does not, I repeat!! DOES NOT!! Live up to the hype. Expect to spend a fortune on batteries because it has no power cord and if breaks there is no number to talk to anyone and Tonewood. My amp stopped working for no reason and that’s even after I took very good care of it. I take very good care of my musical equipment. I’ve had it just one year. Don’t waste your money on this piece of shit product.
