Jason, I haven’t even finished watching this video but have to thank you for explaining how to access the software sounds properly. I’ve had everything hooked up and couldn’t understand why I wasn’t hearing them! Have to agree with other comments about the complexity of accessing the functionality of the Tonex world and , like others, am so glad you have taken the time out to explain this. It shouldn’t be necessary but we’re really glad you’re doing it! Thanks again!

Oh my God... no.... I was exactly hearing two sounds mixed!!! I had no reverb activated on the software, but I could hear the reverb while playing!!! And only because the bank was still engaged on the pedal!!!! Many thanks you deserve a payed 'Thank You'!!!

Can you show this work flow with the tonex one
@longnailsareok2 ай бұрын
yes please! I just realized today that using the tonex as an interface meant I was doubling the preset and not sure how to get around it
@longnailsareokАй бұрын
I figured this out. To make this work, if using Tonex One (TO) as interface, in the Tonex Software (TS), click the slider button up next to where the connected pedal is listed. Turn of "direct monitoring". You'll only get one signal. To switch it back, you turn direct monitoring back on for the TO, and then for TS, set the audio out device to "none" or whatever setting you need to to only get signal from TO and not TS.

Thank you Jason! This is super helpful. By not using my regular audio interface and using the pedal instead, this eliminates all the variables. With so many interfaces on the market, it's a real headache to find what input levels match the ToneX eco-system.

This was so helpful. I was stacking tones and didn't even realize it. I wish Tonex would allow for editing through the software directly on the pedal like Line 6 allows. This set up is very confusing coming from using Line 6 products.

So in theory, you could dial in a tone on the software and when you port it to your pedal, you just make sure the input trim is at the same level. Makes sense!

Thank you so much. I was about to return the pedal thinking the interface is defective. Unbeliveable bush league programming from IK! If you go through all the menus to select INTERFACE, why is it still stacking the model on top?

I'm on the latest firmware (1.5.13) and when in interface mode, with USB mode set to dual (not stereo), the input trim _does_ have an effect on the DI signal coming in via USB. Turning the USB mode to stereo disables the input trim on the USB signal when the pedal preset is inactive, as you describe in the video. For some reason I also don't have the hig/low/ok indicators for the trim. Has this been removed in the latest firmware?

Wow soooo close. Really appreciate all the time, efforts and expertise. Two comments. 1- What is recommend output level on pedal to match software? I find approximately (by ear) 13.3dB on the software output matches pedal volume 2.6 (out of 10). 2- There is STILL a slight difference in quality. I hear a little more bass on the pedal (and clarity). It's noticeable on edge of break up playing lead, you'll notice the initial attack has a bit more bass/depth to it. Might be my ears or might be the circuitry!
@dr.gmusicАй бұрын
I wonder the same thing as there is a bit of a difference even when the perceived dB levels are the same in the software and pedal.

Jason, I am currently saving up for a Tonex pedal and plan to use live with my Helix Floor in a loop with Midi as the amps and cabs to free up DSP for other things - what would be the smartest way to set the Tonex pedal for editing so that the sound stays consistent from software to pedal? Would I need to switch back and forth between the Live and Interface?
@IgoRthethrasher2 ай бұрын
I've done exactly same thing. I've put Tonex into interface mode, dual. I recorded 2 tracks and set the input gain in the VST to match exactly my trim setup in the pedal, and guess what? The VST is louder than the track with preset directly from the pedal. Of course I've used the exact same preset for each. Why is that happening?

I've noticed something similar on the HX Stomp and Helix Native, but I can't get the setting on a Stomp Preset "Output Node" to sound the same in Helix Native. Maybe you can look at that some time. Thanks

I have the software which I love with the exception of the user interface being so convoluted. I have been considering getting the pedal but I think the interface would drive me crazy with all that diving through menus etc.

To change it you have to adjust something in the settings. I never got it to work properly with the ToneX one. The software is quite litterally antagonistic to users of ToneX devices. Hopefully this new update coming soon will fix that.

I was messing around with the Advanced Parameters of a tone model I didn't really love just to see what kind of range in sounds one could achieve with simple experimentation. I was really surprised to find that lowering the Mix level to about 50% made the tone model sound incredible (to my tastes, anyway). It went from overly saturated and flubby to a round and full overdriven tone that cleans up beautifully with the guitar's volume knobs. It feels very amp-like. This made me wonder how one should actually approach the Mix parameter with Tonex since it seems possible to drastically alter the character of the tone model and potentially improve it. Watching all of your videos about the Global Input Trim was kind of a launching off point for me. Is my experience of lowering the Mix parameter essentially doing the same thing as lowering the Global Input? Thanks.

I use a guitar with fishman fluence pups. I find turning the input trim down all the way actually sounds best. To be clear, this is the procedure for the trim: hold down alt for 6 seconds and when the lights switch to that mode then turn the right most knob counter clockwise. The hardest setting to find🙄

One of my friends told me that he had a same problem with tonex one. He says that presets in tonex one is sounding more gainy compare to the plugin He tells me that he had modified in Tonex plugin a lot then put into the Tonex One and that happens. Can you please give me a comment or make a video with tonex one too?

@Sea_Jay3 ай бұрын
Yes, you can set the exact input trim using the Tonex software connected to the tonex one. In the Librarian tab, you will see two buttons to the right of the tonex pedal drop down. With your tonex one selected, press the right button of the two to bring up global settings for the tonex one. It doesn't work for full sized tonex though.
@baconbrain622 ай бұрын
@@Sea_Jay Does that mean that when setting the Input Trim as you are describing for the Tonex One, that one no longer needs to match the input in the lower left of the Tonex SW as shown by Jason?
@Sea_Jay2 ай бұрын
@@baconbrain62 Two different things. Setting trim on the pedal can be done in the ToneX software. Or set the trim on the software itself. If you set both to the same value, they will both sound the same.

Tone-X hardware is really great - but it's truly shocking that the PC software forces you to jump thru all these counter-intuitive hoops, it's like software from the 90's lol - if only they sorted this out - the Tone-X could take over the world!
@prestomattwine3 ай бұрын
Exactly! If these KZbin channels are always showing how to use this pedal and software, then something is definitely wrong with the system. Ik Multimedia has really dropped the ball, if it weren’t for Jason’s videos I would have sold my Tonex pedal along time ago!
@zardozjones3 ай бұрын
@@prestomattwine Totally agree! I've been writing commercial software for 35+ years - and honestly IK have really really stuffed this. It's 2024 not 1992 - fluid easy to use software would just nuke the competition. So frustrating trying to tweak a great tone on the hardware!

@@prestomattwine I almost sold my tonex one the same day I got it because of that software. It is like they made it to be adversarial to users. Supposedly the new update is supposed to make it work like every other editor for devices like this work.

When o when o when are they gonna give us the ability to edit the pedal settings on the software and have it change real time. It’s a pain in the arse having to scroll through settings on the pedal anytime you wanna change something. If you wanna do this it’s always “you have to go back into global settings change this mode then change this” Just kills the workflow.
