I love this guy!!!!! Never followed him before but after this interview I'm sure we need more guys like him in the IFBB. He told the truth, he never stuttered, he wasn't scripted, he wasn't trying to protect a sponsor, and he didn't sound stupid. Everything he said sounded intelligent.

Watch Mike Katz in pumping iron. Listen to him talk about how he should win because he is big. Look at how god awful his aesthetics were and how he did not care. Waller was absolutely correct about how bad Katz aesthetics were. Now understand that Katz became one of the most influential IFBB judges and you will understand what happened to judging.

@willmolinar

He's right. Bodybuilding as a competitive sport is an inconsistent mess. Shows don't start on time, no one in the audience (or back stage) knows what's going on and what's happening during the show. No one knows what the judging is all about, what standards apply, what the expectations are, where to stand, etc.

@BatFan123

+Bob Jenkins Masculinity has nothing to do with muscles or having a muscular physique by itself, there's a lot more that needs to come into play to achieve real "masculinity". Maybe Sweden is the only country in the world that's doing "the right thing". Ever thought about that ?? Using Anabolic Steroids or substances is wrong !!! And only to be used for medical emergencies like heavily burned or wounded soldiers and civilians and in some rare cases of diseases that won't allow mature muscle growth. Anabolics are not to be messed with for sports or body-building. Competitions and meetings should be participated natural in for everyone. Unfortunately we have come to the point that nowadays in society kids use if for fun to attain a good physique at the gym. Nice. Way to go ..... And what is or does a real man or "masculinity" look like to you ? I believe and think it's a castrated donkey. What's your opinion ?
@bobjenkins4925
@bobjenkins4925 8 жыл бұрын
Electric Blue No offense but the amount of stupid comments you've made in this single post is many. The association of muscle mass with a certain view of masculinity is exactly why Sweden has a problem with it. Sweden is doing many right and wrong things, just like many countries. Others anabolic steroid use is none of your business and it's laughable that you think you deserve the right to have an influence on telling others what they're allowed to take. Competitions should be whatever the federation which hosts the competition decide, and all who dislike it can start their own federation. What masculinity looks like to me is irrelevant. It's others perceptions of muscle mass and masculinity which have demonised muscular men in Sweden, not my own perception.
@BatFan123
@BatFan123 8 жыл бұрын
Bob Jenkins No offense taken, I can't always write stuff that's full of wisdom and correct 100% but the way we're heading now little children are going to start juicing form an early age and they'll mess their body's up because they will want more and more. As a matter of fact it is my business if another person puts anabolic steroids in his body to the point he'll die of it and young men and children are getting a total wrong perception and view of what a manly body should look like but they will never be able to keep up with what You Tube is showing them and they will get sick and die out of it eventually. The use of Anabolic Steroids is not the way to go or to be condoled. I could agree on using just a little dosage for guys that are in their 30's or 40's and beyond if their testosterone levels are low, so they would feel better out of it, but I'm mainly talking about the mental aspect you get out of it here. And also make no mistake bro, I am for the legalization of ALL drugs,believe it or not, so I know where you are coming from.

First I wanna say that I like and respect Toney Freeman! I have attended 2 of his seminars and I have no doubt he is a very honest, intellectual and articulate man! After watching this I’m not clear really on what he wants from the judging. The points he raises - while valid don’t seem major issues to me. So perhaps they need a line on the stage, it’s not a big problem. Tell them to hit the same pose at the same tine - not a big deal...When he said he asked someone what the we’re aiming to look like at the Arnold and they said they want to be shredded - what’s wrong with that!? Bodybuilding is judged off size, symmetry, definition. Not rocket science. I mean this with the greatest respect to TF . I think he needs to be clear in his head what he would like to see before speaking up .

so true about mandatory poses, individual posing routines are different, you should do your own interpretation. but during the mandatory poses you should have to do the same thing as everybody else ,none of this hiding your flaws shit that's for the posedown .for instance a bodybuilder with a flat chest will often twist his upper body and shoulder forward so he does not look flat from the side ect. Tony Freeman is right, mandatory poses should be just that, mandatory and consistent .

I never thought I'd say this, but the decline/death of Joe Weider brought all this about. When Joe's vision dominated there was a clearly understood standard to conform to. That standard was generally Apollonian in vision, small waist, broad shoulders, etc... Now we have guys winning major shows that look like trolls. Oh, great interview by the way!

Even though Tony did personally disapoint me when I was very young, I have to side with him on certain things mentioned here. Judging has been lead to celebrity or qaulity favortism. A lot of people don't get looked at when judges already like certain athletes and totally agree with Tony that judging is not done correctly either. Judging is done way too quickly before poses are even hit. Competitions are now so oversatuarated with classes and athletes that rounds get throwen out. Mandatory poses do exist though. rules have changed a lot since 2015. I hope this changes when it starts as an olympic discipline. Saying that Rich, CT or youtubers in general is not bodybuilding is just a Markus Rühl similar sign of jealously. They are the people bringing in a bigger audience and should be praised for doing so. Everything everyone does in the industry contributes to bodybuilding.
@neub4321
@neub4321 8 жыл бұрын
The basic problem with judging is the way Jim Manion learned the business as his personal turf, instead of being a sport that needs clear and safe standards for the athletes. The IFBB and NPC need to WORDSMITH new rules, not use the current wording to weasel their way out of controversial decisions.

I reckon Mike Katz could never get it through his head as to why smaller guys like Ken Waller always kicked his ass by being in proportion. Mike Katz was big but never proportioned. Funny that Katz has been judging for decades and bigger, non proportioned competitors started winning and the whole industry changed.
