Can we just take a moment and acknowledge how young they where when they debuted? Ranging from 15 to 20 years old. As a mother of 4, my heart breaks for them. My kids had troubles just to handle relationships at school and within the family. BTS literally became the target of organised hate campaigns (even death threats!). Not only from ordinary people but also from the industry. Does anyone expect teenagers to handle this without being affected?! I discovered BTS through my youngest daughter who was really helped by them during difficult times. We bonded through BTS and I discovered their music myself. And among the B-sides like “Louder than bombs” and “House of cards” are where you find the real gems! Never underrated by Army. Love that you taking your time to discover more than the A-sides/MVs - there are lots more! BTS and Army are in a relationship of having each others backs, unseen before. Army fights for BTS and BTS fights for Army and “…all the youngsters out there”. (Which other group have been to the UN three times?!) While delivering top notch entertainment!

The way I interpret “the pain I carry is hypocrisy they say” is that people say celebrities shouldn’t complain because their lives are great. Like, “you are rich and famous. How could you be sad?” As if they are not allowed to feel pain and sadness.

You have a slight misunderstanding with this song. They're singing this directly to ARMY. The shadow behind the cheers and the silent sadness is talking about the emotions of ARMY. It's an acknowledgement of how their songs have literally saved people's lives. RM questions whether or not they should have such influence over people's lives. Yoongi says that if they don't do it, who will? They end up promising to keep singing for us. Also, the BTS light sticks are called "bombs". That's another play on words. BTS is unusual in the way they have songs that speak directly to their fans with their lyrics. This is part of why ARMY has such a strong connection with them. They are aware of how much they help ARMY and promise to keep helping.

I also think it is the silent cries of BTS. I was watching breaking the silence again and u can see the stress and pressure BTS lives daily.. Someone always wanting something from them. MOTS was written for themselves 1st then they bring us with them. So we all can "healed" there was a time when Namjoon said he was using Army to learn how to love himself an army should know Army should use Namjoon to love their selfs. BTS is my medic I call for a "remedy".

@@cherylwalker4242 I disagree but only because of the other songs on the album. The album, as a whole, tells the story of their lives and career. "Louder Than Bombs" addresses the aspect of how their music affects their fans. To me, "On", the very next track on the album, is the one that addresses their own feelings about their jobs. Well, after all of the doubt and such that Suga expressed in "Interlude: Shadow". I think that if you go to doolset and read the lyrics, just as a letter to ARMY, then that's really what it is and how the lyrics read. That's just my opinion, of course.

I think like many songs Louder than Bombs is written to be interpreted at many levels. While I agree that messaging to ARMY is one of them, many of the adherents to this interpretation make little effort to see how Louder than Bombs may also fit into the MOTS concepts of Persona, Shadow and individuation. I saw one accusing Toney of a misunderstanding then reciting the more accepted playbook. To me, while her playbook statements have validity she was one track and mildly accusatory to someone who tried to breakdown the song seeing it as MOTS based. I truly wish this "I definitively know better than thou" attitude would be tempered with words like I believe or I think. I give Toney kudos for his efforts no matter how right or wrong because they were genuine interpretation and they show how BTS meanings are multidimensional.

While in general I agree with your sentiment, I do believe the "accepted playbook", as you called it, comes from an actual VLive explanation of the songs meaning by RM in this particular case so, generally speaking, I'm more understanding of people saying "this is what it means" for this song than I am for some others where the explanations came solely from fan interpretation.

@@ashleyder9164 RM said things about Spring Day too but somehow most ARMY became fairly invested in the Sewol Ferry tragedy explanation and not what he said. So is there a right explanation or a most accepted one? BTS many times presents in easy to understand ways and simultaneously runs deeper lines of thought underneath. For instance, how many people evaluate the lyrics to House of Cards in terms of it being a BU song despite clues presented in Prologue and Run. To me, BTS is great because there is a lot of room for understanding. My response was to a minimizing of Toney's interpretation. Had the words you have a slight misunderstanding been replaced with the words it is popularly understood or I believe then I imagine I would never have even opened my mouth. I simply prefer a this is what I think without framing things in an I'm right and you're wrong.

@@ericweinman9447 I'm not sure what you think you're responding to. I said in general I agreed with your original post and then expressed a personal opinion about the interpretation of this particular song. I also agree with your observation regarding Spring Day. In the case of Louder With Bombs, because RM expressly expressed his thoughts behind the meaning, I *personally* am not bothered when people don't say "I think", where I would generally prefer that.

While not underrated, the song is definitely underanalyzed, which is why I appreciate your interpretation and reading everyone's comments. My take on the song is that it is an ode to empathy. It is the answer to the question "If a tree falls in the forest and no one hears it, did it really fall?". I found an answer in a book that I know of, and that I found RM recommending as part of his public reading list - The Hidden Life of Trees. According to this book, even trees have empathy. In other words, even if you suffer and break silently, someone has heard you because pain isn't/cannot be silent. In the light of this and what everyone said about the fandom being involved, the song isn't about the pain bts feels, it's the pain they feel coming from ARMY that they are expressing in one loud cry. They definitely received many fan letters and talked to many people in fan meetings about their struggles, and a lot of people genuinely find solace in their music. But on first glance hearing the song and the vocabulary used, I immediately remembered reading about the Syrian war, recently what's happening in the occupied Palestinian territories, refugees and other horrible things I feel like I can't do anything about. This is why it's really just an ode to empathy and a perspective on pain. As far as the MOTS theory goes, I think it's dealing with the collective subconscious again, but in this case the emotions we repress aren't even our own.

You GOT this!! First of all, I just wanted to say I love your reactions! During a recent Run BTS episode, BTS had to guess some answers the ARMY had given in a survey. They were a bit shocked to find out this song was the #1 ARMY requested song for BTS to perform during their next concert tour. RM wrote this song for ARMY. He wrote this song so ARMY would know their emotions were speaking ‘louder than bombs’ to them. He also explained that they know ARMY wants them to be happy, but not be burdened to always just show their (BTS) happy side. It’s a ‘Catch 22’ situation. RM said they can and have expressed many of their thoughts and emotions through their songs and performances, but many ARMYs do not have the same outlet. RM wrote this in the hope ARMY would find an outlet, whether it was through the creative arts, physical activity or an outlet ARMY enjoys to let their emotions free. ARMY knows the BTS members have burdens and visa versa. Additionally, as a side notethe majority of ARMY will not reveal to BTS their burdens, but talk among different fan sites (ARMY knows BTS has fake accounts for the most active sites 😎). As RM said during a concert, ‘I used ARMY to learn loving myself. Please use me, please use BTS to learn and love yourself!’ Wow, sorry for the long response.

I love the use of the ocean and water in this song! One of the reasons we know this song is for ARMY is because of the mention of the sea at around 10:09 BTS wrote a hidden track during the Love Yourself era called Sea, which basically detailed how ARMY was responsible for lifting them out of the desert and turning that barren wasteland into a beautiful ocean. They use sea as a metaphor again here, alongside the comparison of waves on a calm sea and pain that spills over like water from a too full cup to compare the pain they feel for ARMYs going through hard times. You can also see this with the effect they use on their voices around 10:44 as the notes from the harmony slowly fades away, it sounds like they're underwater, as if they're drowning. I think it's incredible that they can write music that has a message most people can relate to, while also sending the message to ARMY that they understand the impact they have on their fans, how their songs have effected their fans lives and that they'll continue to make music that touches fans hearts and decreases their pain.

I LOVE your interpretations of this. I agree thoroughly that this is a song I could listen to, or dance to, or just get completely lost in, repeatedly for the rest of my life even if I never knew the meaning of the lyrics. Then I learned the lyrics. Trying to explain to someone how it made me feel when I first discovered it, I said I wanted to wrap myself up in it but still be able to dance, or better yet I wanted to play it loud in a large room like an empty dance hall and just let it fill up the space like water so I could drown in it. (Nobody understood what I meant.) I was dancing along with you and enjoying how much you enjoyed it sonically (always fun to see someone discovering the same joy you have found). Then came your interpretations of the various lyrics. As usual some coincided with my own (making me feel validated) and some I hadn’t thought of (making me feel impressed and giving me something to think about). This is why I love watching you. As I’m sure someone has already told you, BTS themselves have only recently become aware of how much “ltb” means to ARMY and how many of us want to see/hear it performed live. You’re not the only one who hears “brighter” in RM’s rap rather than “lighter,” but I love how you saw the word play with “lighter” referring to weight and then to brightness. As far as the voices go, the vocalists blend beautifully in this, and you can just keep on enjoying it sonically for now. As you come to recognize each voice individually, that will just give you even more to enjoy in each song. You can be excused for not recognizing when j-hope takes over from RM as their raps almost overlap here. SUGA’s rap comes last and the lyrics are repeated with a distortion effect. This is a technique he has used in his solo work as Agust D, as well as in BTS songs, and the sonic distortions have been interpreted variously...Nope. Not gonna prejudice your own interpretations by sharing mine or any else’s with you! I will say it is used to great effect in his BTS song about the Shadow. Since you are deep into reacting to the Jungian themes of their work, I would love to see your reactions to MOTS:7 “Intro: Persona” (RM), “Interlude: Shadow” (SUGA) and “Outro: Ego” (j-hope). I’ve watched these particular videos many, many times, due to my love of all things Jungian (and my mom’s love of all things SUGA). Each mv is stand-alone, not part of a storyline, but has amazing imagery dealing with its theme. DKDKTV have explanation videos for each, covering Carl Jung’s theory of the unconscious from the book “Map of the Soul” in simplified terms for those who did not major in psychology (unlike yourself) and applying it to the mvs. As usual they do a very good job, but with your education and insight, I’d love to know what you might be able to pick up on, especially in the Shadow lyrics and video. Since I don’t want you to be influenced by other theories, I am NOT suggesting you watch the DKDKTV explanations before doing your own reaction. Unlike with something like “Ugh!” I don’t think it is necessary - there is not the same level of heavy emphasis on Korean language or culture in these. There will be “inside jokes/references” you may miss as “baby ARMY,” but as always older ARMY will fill you in on these (hopefully kindly), and I love seeing the things you pick up on all on your own. As “toddler” ARMY myself I’m enjoying learning from you as well as along with you. Into the unconscious, Wolfpac Leader, let’s goooooooooo!

I love the way you analyzed these kind of songs where BTS talks about the darker side of things, specifically that they give you a way out. It truly sums up why BTS has touched so many lives. They talk about the negative, depression, anxiety, fear of the unknown but always manage to remind people that even in the darkest situations there will always be light, even if you have to wait a little while for it to show.

Jhope, Jin, and Suga. i think the last part might be the vocal line not sure

It is really a complicated piece of music. Usually I can sing harmony with about anything, but parts of that are safe at the moment. You know, everyone interprets lyrics differently. It will mean something different to each person. Everyone's journey is different. One may feel a song means one thing but an Artist will come out and say what the story was for them when they wrote it. Every true artist is aware that a set of lyrics can mean multiple things to multiple people. The listener is supposed to connect with a song and have it become part of their journey just like poems. It is nice to know how the person writing the lyrics came by it and why but the real power of a song is how you interpret it for you and your life (your connection/journey). True poetry at its finest. This song is poetry. You take away the lyrics and the music is moving and can make me feel it differently than someone else listening to it. It may not allows matter why it was written but just simply that IT WAS written. Damn good song!!!! Thanks for another BTS reaction. :)

I love LTB! Your interpretation is great! As an ARMY, this song hits all the heart strings. For me, this song feels as though BTS suffered a little from imposter syndrome, where they felt a little overwhelmed with all the love and expectations received from being in the spotlight. At times they felt unworthy of all the praise and attention, because they know they don't have all the answers we seek, and probably won't be able to fulfill some of the expectations we set. It kind of breaks my heart that they feel this immense pressure, because they've had to give up things to be THAT celebrity for us. They understand that fans have shadows too, although it comes from a place of love, but toxicity exists amongst us (especially when expectations aren't met). All the light sticks you see at BTS' concerts are called ARMY bombs, they've chosen to 'sing louder then bombs' to cancel out any 'noise' and unrealistic demand. Regardless of everything, they've chosen this 'game', they've chosen this path to keep singing their story for themselves and for us.

Hey, I love you. Also, Louder than Bombs is a movie. In this album, they have a lot of movie references (like Black Swan). The movie is about a war photographer whose problems at home are very palpable/louder than bombs, yet no one addresses them. Meaning, war was more tolerable than being at home. In this song, I BTS say they have their personal struggles and problems, even though it may not seem like it--they’re louder than bombs (ARMY cheers/lightsticks are called ARMY Bombs)
