Marco, Excellent. I would call it "fujara jazz". I have been advocating this kind of play (variation on a folk song theme) using fujara. You have done it nicely. I wish you such a good inspiration in the future too.

Lyrics+translation for those who are interested. The song is about feelings of a punished prisoner. Translated: 1) When I was escorted from mayor, wardens filled a cup of wine for me. 2) Don’t fill the cup, drink it alone, you have just fed me by my own bitter tears. 3) Bitter tears, such bitter as henbane, there will come once the judgement day even for you. 4) You have fed me by bitter tears, but my beloved girl will feed me by sweet kisses. Notes: - Marco’s improvisation does not fit exactly into lyrics, but this is common mismatch when solo fujara play is alternating with signing. This makes the song even more beautiful and adds personality of the interpreter in that version. - Very puristic multitrack of the same instrument. To me it sounds exceptional in term of both musical innovation with fujara and technical excellence. - The word “koť” points to origin in Kokava. The song is also interpreted by “Fujaristi z Kokavy”. - I like the video, it seems to match the voices used at particular moments of the song. - The original mixolydian melody is still present there, some traditionalists will definitely like it (me too). - The cuckoo at 1:56 is an awesome idea! Brilliant! There exist several slovak songs mentioning that bird.

This ties in with what I am doing with my double harp, in a way: I'm experimenting with harmonic tunings, which of course are what the fujara plays. There's something special about these intervals. Thanks again for the inspiration.

Hi, that sounds like a good idea. Send me in a few sentences the idea of your film and a link to a rough cut when it's ready. It is already important to me that my music, if I already provide it for free, does not harm the idea of the idea of Fujara and Slovak music tradition. For this I ask for understanding, look forward to a response and then decide. Contact: www.tonfinder.de

Marco, beautiful piece of music! I'm sure, this version wouldn't hurt feelings of traditional fujarist. I've met Mr. Smutny 3 years ago in Cicmany, he is great man. Just for my curiosity, do you know lyrics of that song? I can drop it here and translate it for you.
@tonfinder2 жыл бұрын
Radovan, thank you very much! All my compositions and improvisations are based in deep gratitude and joy for having encountered the fujara. The instrument, the instrument makers, the culture, the songs, the landscape, the people, the language etc.. - all this belongs together in a certain way. I am a musician, but I am not a Slovakian. I play fujara, but I try not to play shepherd. My life is completely different from that of the people who invented these wonderful traditional songs and played them for generations, so I tell my "stories" and often without words, only with the means of music. Of course, my musical socialization, which includes various musical studies and training, flows into my artistic work with the fujara. For me, this is the most honest and respectful way of dealing with the fujara that I can imagine. Yes, I know the text (Do not fill my cup again). If you like, feel free to share the text here, that would make me happy and maybe others will like it too!
@radovanbakos8802 жыл бұрын
@@tonfinder Marco, I like what you are doing, also on other videos. You have extraordinary good breathing technic and musical invention. As a Slovak, I have found one aspect which is linked to understanding Slovak traditional folk songs. The texts are often about love and death and are linked to nature. Quite often is there present a reflexion of some pain or suffering, as that can be an emotional factor for authors to write a song which is remembered over generations. When I go hiking, I use to take a wind instrument with me, if not collapsible fujara then lighter koncovka or 6-hole flute. Those sounds are extinct from places where it was normal for them to be heard. People like it. You know, hiking is also kind of discomfort. This brings me closer to what my ancestors might feel.
