Tonga Village Grand Opening B-Roll

Following a 16-month restoration, the new Tonga Village at the Polynesian Cultural Center opened Saturday, June 11, in a ceremony steeped in culture and celebration, highlighted by the presence of the Royal Family of Tonga.
His Majesty King Tupou VI, joined by his wife, Her Majesty Queen Nanasipauu, made a special trip to participate in the ceremony as a tribute to the people of Tonga and the spirit of the Tongan culture being perpetuated at the Polynesian Cultural Center.
King Tupou VI addressed the audience, praising the Polynesian Cultural Center for its dedication to showcase culture. “The Polynesian Cultural Center is a window the world can look through to understand lesser-known islands and their people,” said King Tupou VI. “The Tonga Village fosters pride in the cultural identity of our people and allows them to preserve and pass on that love to our younger generations.”

Kody Tu’i Tonga was defeated in battle by the Tu’i Ha’apai/Kanokupolu. He is the Hau of Tonga and the Tu’i Tonga title was no more but the Tu’i Tonga bloodline now lives in the Tu’i Kanokupolu through marriage. All three bloodlines (Tu’i Tonga/Ha’atakalaua/Kanokupolu) are now all in one the present reigning monarch King George the VI.

@@danaitutaki8340 their mother’s came from samoa, tongan men took Samoan women as wives even up to this day 🤣 The line of kings now are originally from Haapai, they conquered the main land defeating the reigning Tui kanokupolu and took his title. He unified all of Tonga taking all the three line of kings title, hence why his kava ceremony theres 3 kava bowl being served. Taufaahau Tupou the forth cut off his oldest son from royalty for marrying a Samoan woman. They want the royal blood to be pure 👍 I know the past hurts but stop this foolishness, Tonga was and will always be a kingdom. Y’all HAD a royal family but they gone. Yes King warrior,we as Tongan can't,but foreign blood is an exception! In the Royal Tongan Kava ceremonies,its a Fiji warrior(Or Fijian blood people) that leads the Kava ceremonies.This show how close Fiji and Tonga had been as most of the eldest daughter of Tonga Kings were send out to Fiji to be married there due to them too high in ranking,and no Tongan line was high enough!

Tu’i Soso is the chief title for Fijians who walk in front of the Tongan king to cast out evil spirits. He’s present in every kava ceremony the king attends

@@wg137 Correct it is Tu'i Soso's bloodline who lead the king as they are closely tied to Tongan Royalty by blood for centuries. Only the Royals from FIJI and Fiji alone are allowed to walk ahead of the King of Tonga for this reason.

The Maori King is also not an official figurehead, the King of Tonga is the head of state and the Prime Minister is the Head of Government. We see members of the Maori Royal households and the chiefly members of Samoan and Fijian Families in Tonga all the time at Royal Functions, but that is stemmed from their family ties and their cultural friendships between the individuals and not in their capacities as heads of states etc.
