One thing I've noticed that a lot of wrestlers have in common is that they loved their time in NXT (presumably when it was ran by Triple H) and then it fell apart afterwards. I personally loved when he ran NXT. Storylines were great, matches felt solid, and a great rotation of talent.

WWEs micromanagement can be seen and felt from the outside as well. Unfortunately it makes it especially hard for the more charismatic performers to shine. They think they can squeeze that out of everyone, but that's half-assed. Maybe enough for those who just attend to sing along with the entrance songs, but streamlined performances aren't the same like letting a natural talent loose. They reached a point were even the epic stages can't make up for it anymore. For a lot of Pro Wrestling fans AEW or New Japan may be more relevant these days.

Regarding the edict of wanting young talent and seemingly to contradict that stance with Toni Storm, the issue here is that they want controllable people. So actually those who have experience, strong opinions, etc. will do bad in this version of the WWE because the WWE effectively want puppets that fit a very specific mold. The fact that Toni saw that she could not fit that mold is good because she probably would've been lost in the shuffle in the long term unless she would play the corporate climber type and I feel she probably has too much integrity for that. But it's not an uncommon thing in large companies to see this trend in hiring practices. I remember Japan was like that for a long time where they would have a whole system with the Juuku (weekend school) where those entrance exams were more important than anything. Then once you pass those exams and get into a top ranked college, you could just effectively f-off until it was time to get hired by a company. And since there was that whole senpai-kohai relationship thing, I think the kohais would eventually get picked up. Didn't matter what their degree was in nor their grades at the end of the day because it would be on the job training and everyone would start off at the same level and very slowly work their way up. But they liked those kids because they knew they could mold them into the employees they wanted. The thing is that in an established company where you have lifer employees (like a Prichard, Ace, etc.) those people are the few that will be allowed to have opinions that matter. So if you're the type that is experienced, have a strong sense of self but don't have the leverage yet to make demands like a Cody Rhodes, it's going to be impossible to climb upward unless something special happens or the right person makes the connection. Instead, you have to look at a situation like that as a learning experience and move on. Luckily, we do have AEW so that Toni has alternative options. I still think we need more just so that the talent can have more options to pick and choose while being able to make money for a craft they love because the fact that she had doubt whether or not AEW would call is kind of sad.

But it never really worked out for her even in nxt and in nxt uk. I remember thinking wwe was crazy for going with Rhea Ripley over Toni in the nxt uk brand. (WWE was right and I was wrong with that decision!) and I was wrong about toni. She didn’t make it. It was too competitive and stressful and she left. I hope AEW will work out for her. Less crowd, less competition for top spots right now; more freedom to actually be a contractor. But I have to be honest and admit there have been some alarming appearances post wwe.
