This song, was written for a woman who was trying to block the man from loving the woman he was supposed to be with, and how she would do what ever she could to stop him from being with her. Then he just decided that no matter what dirt she had on him that if the woman he actually loved loved him back then that dirt wouldn't matter. He also knew that he couldn't give the blocker woman the love she wanted from him because he was in love with the other woman. And that's my life right now. I'm scared to jump. I don't want to lose those blue eyes.

Saw Tonic live in concert and he explained what the song meant. The song is to his mother. Before performing the song he explained that he met this girl and intended to marry her after a short while, like a month or two, something like that. He was head over heals for this girl. His mother was against it advising him that it was too soon and that she would be a problem with regard to him being a famous travelling musician. She said she could not support it and would not attend his hasty marriage. He was angry, did it anyway, and wrote the song to his mother, which is why he says “If you could only see the way she loves me then maybe you’d understand” The lyrics saying “You say you love but you don’t” is an angry rebuttal of his mother saying she’s warning him out of love. His marriage to this girl did not end well. They divorced after like 2 years or so if I recall correctly. He confessed live on stage that his mother was right. That he was a young emotional man who thought he knew it all. But his mother was the wise one. It’s a shame that people don’t know the true story behind this song, mistaking it for other interpretations. There’s a powerful lesson in the true story.
