Tsukasa is the only woman EVER, real or imagined, that made my mother look me dead in the eye & tell me if I ever met anyone like her, I better marry her immediately. That, if nothing else, makes this show deserve to be put in the Fictional Character Hall of Fame.

This isn't an anime-only thing. Most western TV shows with a will they/won't they dynamic usually go downhill as soon as the leads get together. It completely changes the dynamic of the show and most writers seem to miss this fact. You've resolved the dramatic tension at the core of the show, why should we keep watching?
@angelmendez-rivera351
@angelmendez-rivera351 3 жыл бұрын
@@mariokarter13 This is a problem with execution, though, not a problem with the concept. A story where there is absolutely no conflict whatsoever or no struggle for anything is not enjoyable, so conflict needs to exist in the story. The issue lies in how the author manages to execute the introduction of this conflict and its resolution, not in the existence of a conflict dynamic itself. There are plenty of romance stories that do not fall for this trap, by the way. Examples I can think of are Domestic Girlfriend and Kaguya-sama: Love is War, although Domestic Girlfriend unfortunately fails for other, different reasons. So again, this shows that the problem is one of execution, not of concept. There is absolutely nothing wrong with there being a portion of the story dedicated to the main characters struggling to get together.

Funny enough, I loved watching this anime with my SO because we related to the embarrassing tropes and those misunderstandings. Those moments of misunderstandings actually got us closer since we acted similarly to the main leads. So for us, other than the fact that they were strangers and married on the spot, it was realistic.

TBH, from the standing point, Nasa and Tsukasa both have from what I called "Keeper" marriage points in this kind of relationship. I mean Nasa: he's a pretty handyman himself (seriously, the guy could fix anything both hardware and software. That was not even exclusive computer.) The guy had a talent for business and making money whenever he wanted to. He can talk with logical deduction w/o causing misunderstanding. Not to mention he only gets horny whenever his wife is around. Tsukasa: Textbox of typical experience Asian housewife. Know how to cook and manage the household spending. Though she's a pretty big pop culture with movies, video games with anime and manga herself which is a bonus. The author used his marriage experience for this manga and it was not far from a successful marriage in real life.

I am worried that he used his marriage experience considering she is 16 in the anime ...
@zhaoyun255
@zhaoyun255 3 жыл бұрын
@@rem8771 Well, 16 is the marriage age in Japan with family consent for girl. Not to mention it was hinted that she was much older than that. Also, I read the entire manga till the latest chapter and 90% of how Nasa and Tsukasa kept their marriage stable was pretty spot on considering I had the functional family (minus the loveydovey stuff. Real life is a bunch of tsundere in Asian culture.)

@@angelmendez-rivera351 But the thing was that Tsukasa was too honest for a standard Tsundere. She may get jealous sometime? Yes but that didn't classify those moment as a tsundere moment when her affection was way too straight forward to Nasa. If anything, Chitose is the Tsudere of the series.

@@zhaoyun255 Chitose is the stereotypical tsundere of the series, but this doesn't make Tsukasa not a tsundere. She is just less exaggerated in her tsundereness, so it seems realistic and wholesome by comparison.

It's a simple romance and that's all it needs to be. No complications or drama, it's doesn't have a deep plot and it doesn't try to. The amount of times I myself asked other people "Hey is there an anime where it's just about the MC's being together and being happy?" and every time I'd get something like "Well there's [Insert romance anime] but only in the end do they finally get together for real / they get together but [insert tragedy] happens / MC likes this girl but also likes another". Sometimes I just want it to be *simple* , and the fact that something like Tonikaku Kawaii is so rare makes it a precious diamond in the rough.

The reason most anime end as soon as the characters start their relationship is because it completely changes the dynamic. You no longer have an end goal to work towards, you have a status quo to maintain. It's like when you beat the game and enter free roam, the drama is over and there's nothing left to do. It's the same reason that when early villains become allies they usually become more boring to watch, their role in the story has concluded and they have nothing left to actually do.

I read the manga first, and fell completely in love with it. And even tho I liked the anime as well it, it has some problems of conveying the characters, because of the voice actors voices (English dub, go blame someone else). There were just a lot of scenes which felt a lot cuter in the manga, when compared to anime. This just shows that the media a story takes place in is very crucial to how good it works.

But there’s drama and the plot explains why Tsukasa married him as the story progresses. Also at the beginning of the manga said that it’s a story (reference) to Kaguya-hime so is not really a secret. The references and cameos to other series are just the cherry on top. The best part of the show is Nasa & Tsukasa and their moments together. Too much sugar and wholesome. Certified frosty? Absolutely. Great video.

@@SpikeTheWolf I don't live in Japan, I don't know how realistic they are. But as far as I can tell from the discussions, a lot of people love how nice and cute it shows the life of a young couple in general.

I see Tsukasa chan. I instantly click. One of the best catchy openings. Romance anime with relationship progress: Bunny girl senpai and Oregairu. (Very early and don't know what to type)

This show is so stupidly sweet, and it's a bizarre breath of fresh air to not have the same drag of small misunderstandings setting the ENTIRE relationship back for our lord and subjugator, Status Quo. If I had to compare it to anything, it would definitely be Wotakoi - which is high praise for me, since that's easily one of my favorites. The relationships have HAPPENED, and they want to make it work while still asking themselves why they're staying. Similarily, both series conflicts leading to reaffirmed commitment, a growing sense of trust, and a better understanding within the relationship is just... not something you see a lot in anime. That's part of how the best relationships work, whether familial, romantic, or platonic: inner conflict arises, and you sort it out together. Tonikawa is just the candy coated edition of this kind of story. What I really enjoy, though, is how that building of trust lends itself to natural character and story evolution. For examplr Nasa can't unlearn that Tsukasa is an (ironically) down to earth girl that will always choose simple sentimentality over flashy, expensive shows of wealth. He KNOWS that now, and failing to act on that would be intentional ignorance on his part. To maintain the stakes, they *have* to continue working to understand and cooperate with one another. Tonikawa certainly hasn't been the most technically impressive anime to come out recently. It does make me feel good in a way many other stories just can't, though. It's kind of like the mom's casserole recipe of anime: it's simple yet undeniably wholesome, and you'll have more appreciation for it the older you get.

I recently just finished the manga and it is still ongoing aaand I feel like they would make more seasons of it since I personally think it would be worth because the story got better and speaking of the mangaka, there's actually so much references in the manga😏

0:51 OMG, I think they might actually find the One Piece in 5 years... This show reminds me of I Can't Understand What My Husband Is Saying. They're already together & despite being so different, they are gonna stay together & they love the fuck out of each other. Good stuff.

I absolutely loved this show 🥰 Thx for not dumping on Nasa like all the haters. What he lacks in character he makes up for in integrity & dedication, and i appreciate that ☺️ Would have liked the OP to have gotten a nod in the awards too (pretty sure it was Best OTY for me), but we all know Easy Breezy is gonna win that anyway 😄

I kind of hated how much of the show revolved around buying things. Buying a bed, buying a TV, buying clothes, buying rings, buying food, buying a new house. And when the characters know so little about each other, it's like that's all their marriage is.

Ahh yes. Romance and comedy. Reminds me of the Classic Maison Ikkoku. 90 episodes of misunderstandings and love rivals. 5 episodes of them finally getting together and one episode showing the wedding and the birth of their first child.

@@Geostelar4920 depends on how you look at it. The author really did intend to end it there, then said we might get a few more chapters and it ended up being a whole lot more chapters (you need to keep in mind this comment was made 5 months ago when we were not sure how many extra chapters we were gonna get)

@@doc8125 I honestly don't think he did though. I think it was intended to be a long continuation from the start because we had a decent ammount of plot threads unresolved and left dangling by the author. The new house and a cetain someone appearing for a few.

@@Geostelar4920 he did state that it was supposed to be the end chapter. He might've intended to originally have it later on to have time to tie up some threads but it really was going to be the conclusion. Anyway, the point of my original comment was to say that the manga had a natural conclusion that would (at least to me) be a satisfying ending to the anime assuming it does not get a thrid season

So within one month, I've discovered and fell in love with 2 animes/mangas: KanoKari (Rent a Girlfriend) and ToniKawa It's funny when I think about it now, they're literally on the opposite ends of the spectrum. In Tonikawa, the MCs confess and get married in episode 1. In Kanokari, after 212 chapters (as of time of writing), SPOILER ALERT, do not read more if you don't want spoilers: . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . The MCs aren't even officially together yet LOL
