Thank you for this video. The difference between T14 and T18 is that T14 has blue undertone, whereas T18 has violet (which is blue and red). Adding T18 to orange (which is yellow and red) adds more red, so the T14 should be used so the blue undertone cancels the yellow/orange. Very pretty hair!

I don’t know why the ladies at Sally’s always recommend t18 and t14 to tone orange brassy hair, they are meant to tone the yellow in pale/light blonde hair. I suspect this kinda worked because of the unred additive, but orange/ brassy hair, caused when dark hair is lightened or lifted, requires a blue or even violet based toner, or an ash toned Demi permanent color (within the same color range of your hair) which deposits color on top of orange/ brassy hair, and therefor the ash tone is neutralised. Of people use toners that are meant for hair which isn’t lifted enough, it often doesn’t work. Your hair is beautiful!!!

I needed this so much! I'm going from black 1N to blonde since my gray is showing more and more and the maintenance is driving me crazy. T14 works on super light bleach hair. I did three process of bleaching on a brown hair to avoid frying the hair. Then used a amethyst, so sure a T18 or T14 will work less orange/brassy hair the better

Love how the T14 cooled down the orange tones! What developer did you use? 10 or 20? I am thinking to maybe use a 10 deveolper so that my roots don't lighten and create more warm tones as i have dark brown (natural) roots.

Yes, you're right, I would use a 10 vol developer because I learned by trial and error that 20 vol lifts a little. In the video I believe I used 20 but I now use 10 vol.

Wow so glad I stumbled on this video because I have a blonde balayage that was turning brassy at the ends. I was considering T18 because that seemed like the most recommended, but you changed my mind! My hair goes from my natural black to brown to an ashy blonde. Would you recommend bringing this all the way near the scalp or up to the brown or just the blonde part? Your outcome came out great!

Ana Ramirez yes, I was using t18 and it wasn't really changing. My hair is kind of orange a little past my roots and the toner hasn't helped that area so I'm going to dye my roots brown to fix that part.

Hi, I know I’m a little late but every time I use Wella toners with 20 developer it does tone my blonde but I also have my natural black/brown roots so it slightly lifts the color from there & turns it orange.. does anyone know how to prevent this?? I want to use maybe a 5 or 10 developer so it doesn’t lift as much but I’m not sure? My hair is pretty blonde it’s just my roots are now orangish 😩

I've read that the 20 can lighten/lift natural dark colours creating more warmth that you want to avoid. A lower developer would be better. I guess you could ise the same t14 on the roots to eliminate the brassiness?

open your rice i did a test strand with one small section of my hair. i started with very orange (kinda pumpkin/copper) colored hair. my roots are black (natural hair color). i started on freshly washed and damp hair. used wella t14 toner w/a 20 developer. rinsed out after 30-40 minutes. then washed the piece w-neutralizing shampoo and then conditioner. then i let the piece air dry | result: i can’t tell yet if there’s a real noticeable difference in color. it may be wishful thinking but it does seem to maybe be slightly less orange compared to my other hair. i got some color on my new growth but saw no color change at all to it. i did notice my hair was VERY dry after the toner application. so i lathered it in coconut oil and twisted it up last nite. i can say that my curl pattern (so far) looks the same. a definite positive. i may try this section again today to see if i can maybe get the result of the young lady in the video. hope this helps!

If your hair is too orange I don't think the toner will work, well get like my hair. Copper colored hair is not lifted light enough to tone. Some pieces of my hair are copper and the toner barely helped that area.

Thank you!! It sounds like your hair might not be lifted light enough to be toned. You might have to have it lifted a little more. I'm no where near a professional so that's just my opinion but if you used t14 on a shade like mine it definitely should have worked.

RubyTuesday I'm not a professional so I don't want to tell you to bleach your hair, but I was told to bleach my hair a little more to get the color I got and I didn't, the t14 helped me a lot. I will say that some sections of my hair were super orange and the t14 didn't help that area, it toned it down a little but no where close to the pieces that were lighter. Just try a small section in the back of your head first and see how that goes. I hope I was able to help you in some way!
