Hi commenting from Trinidad and Tobago. I'm considering removing my tonsils due to constant white patches on them. It was recommended by my doc. Thanks for making this video because I was/very worried about the success rate of tonsillectomy

In a year I can have tonsils 4 or 5times .And I have been studying myself of how they start forming and how to treat them ,so I've realized when it gets extremely hot and I take ice water or drink anything to cool myself down I end up with tonsils the same day .

Hi Dr Liu, Roxanne from South Africa. Thank you for giving such a clear and easy to understand overview of the procedure. I have been to an ENT and he has recommended course of steriods followed with nasal spray for chronic sinusitis,I have had tonsillitis recurrently and of late worsening episodes...I'm going for sinus CT and tonsillectomy is possibly a Rx option. My job requires me to talk alot, academic teaching in hospitals...I want to know if patients find difficultly or challenges when talking due to the pain or inflammation 10days post op... Also, because I work in a healthcare setting and my tonsils are removed would that put me at higher risk for infection?would masking up be enough preventative measure or should I rather not be working in a hospital where patients have TB/MDR TB and the like for the full recovery time. Hope you are able to respond. Thanks.

I have strep/tonsillitis/various other upper respiratory infections 3+ times/yr for like 7+ years. Is the pain so bad in the short term that it would outweigh the benefits of not having to deal with the strep(etc) long term??? Oh I'm 21, if that's relevant.

I dont know if i got an a infection and if i need to get them removed. I’ll have trouble eating like i feel slower and i gag at times when eating. Any thoughts?

Hi Doctor Gene I got my MRI result today and i was wondering if you could enlighten me about this and what your opinion.I do appreciate if you could reply my comment.... left throat pain and discomfort, for 2 years, patient very worried about cancer. We have counselled her that this is extremely unlikely but due to severe sx please can we rule out any underlying disease. scope is normal. Report The left faucial tonsil is asymmetrical prominent. Both faucial tonsils are enlarged but striated, measuring 1.8cm (AP) x 1.3cm (Axial) x 4.5cm (craniocaudal) on the left and 1.8cm (AP) x 1cm (axial) x 4cm (craniocaudal) on the right. No focal tonsillar enhancement is seen. The lateral pharyngeal constrictors are intact. The tongue base is normal and the nasopharynx is clear. There is no lymphadenopathy. The thyroid and salivary glands are normal. The paranasal sinuses, mastoids and middle ear clefts are clear. The imaged intracranial structures are normal. No osseous abnormality is detected. Conclusion 1) The faucial tonsils are asymmetrically enlarged (L>R) but remain striated and of homogeneous signal. 2) There is no lymphadenopathy Overall, the appearances are most in keeping with lymphoid hyperplasia. However, given the tonsillar asymmetry, direct inspection and biopsy of the left faucial tonsil is advised.

Hello, Does a stubborn cough have anything to do with tonsils? In the back of my mouth it feels as if I have a smaller balloon back there. When I talk I notice something is swollen but this goes away again & comes back again days later. Is it my tonsils? 🤔

Hi Gene. I'm almost 4 weeks post op, and everything seems to have healed fine, except the opening in my throat at the back is visibly smaller, as if the soft pallet has dropped. Also I keep getting a snoring sounds just from breathing normally. Is it possible there is still some swelling causing this snoring 4 weeks after the operation? Because it all looks fine, but it feels odd and my ENT is not helping me much. Thanks
@GeneLiuMD
@GeneLiuMD 5 жыл бұрын
There may still be some swelling. There will certainly be some stiffness as well. Snoring can occur from any part of the palate/throat fluttering with airflow. This can happen whether or not someone still has their tonsils.

Hi doc I'm in a weird situation. Im a 36 years old male, Last July I started dating a new girl and I suddenly git strep throat. I was giving cephalexin and it went away for two months. Then in December I got it again. I have been on five different antibiotics and it's not gotten rid of the strep. I have been like this for four months now. I'm seeing a ENT now. I have had a throat culture and I have two strains of strep. I think my option now is a tonsillectomy right. I have never had strep in my life until last July. But no antibiotics is working for this last bout of strep that I have had for the last four months. Is this common?

Hi5 Rosa, I'm day 4 post-op. What's helped me is having two firm pillows keeping me at a 45-ish degree angle, and sleeping on my side. This way my uvula goes to the side too and really helps with the choking sensation. My uvula has barely started to go down in swelling too. Keep sucking on ice my friend. Chloraseptic spray helps a ton too!

Hi! I had an adenoidectomy and tonsillectomy, I am months out and I have intermittent swelling of my soft palate and uvula area which I believe is touching the back of my tongue making me gag when I speak. Also I seem to have a significant amount of granulation tissue on the right side where my tonsil was removed. The granulation tissue is so much that it looks like my tonsil grew back. I took a medrol dose pack without any noticeable improvement. Not sure how to make this all go away... On the other hand my breathing has significantly improved.

I am glad it will all be over with in a week or two but someone please get me a time machine. I had lower back surgery 4 years ago from a sports injury and it was nothing compared to this. You can't run from the pain, even if you don't move an inch it still hurts! I have been wondering if he put the tongue clamp on extra tight because my tongue hurts so freaking bad and I can't taste a dang thing. I guess this is normal. It makes me wonder why we clamp that glossopharyngeal nerve so tight! Anyways, I guess I just needed an outlet for all this pain. All the adults thinking of having a tonsillectomy do your homework first!
