MrHeyfuckoff Oh, then I guess the La Ferrari, Porsche 918, McLaren P1 and BMW i8 are all abominations. Get a grip, I wasn't talking about that. It's a car, like many great Holdens, and no one (but kids) used Prius jokes anymore. You should be proud to be an Aussie, but not to be as awkward to talk to like Abbott. Wow.

obviou stroll Like I said, I'm not a fan of Abbott (considering change of government was inevitable, I would have much preferred Turnbull) nor most aspects of his government's budget. But read over your last post; do actually think all that to be true? Do you really think Abbott is "trying to get everyone in the working class to work for $2 a day"? "Get a grip", was that what you suggested? Solid points for irony, I'll give you that much.

So far the 3 + years under Abbott will be remembered as the years when nothing happened; - We've done nothing for cleaner energy. - No improvement in the economy or unemployment rate, with stagnating wages. - No improvement in the mining industry, despite billion dollar subsidies and tax breaks. - Our country's debt (their number 1 voter promise) has only gotten worse. - They've increased their own wages/benefits while telling the rest of its population to deal with less government spending. - Basic social rights like gay marriage among other things remain unchanged. - We are still waging an expensive war in the middle-east rather than helping them re-build. - Our freedom of speech/level of internet censorship has been attacked. - Our infrastructure spending (NBN/Road spending) has been reduced/ gone backwards. - The public safety-net has slowly been stripped. - Education and healthcare has gotten more expensive. The list goes on. Tony Abbott will go down in history as one of the most useless PM"s in the history of this country.

Shinbu1128 Let me get this straight: If you had an ounce of social intelligence and intellect, then the fact that Abbott would fail would have been extremely apparent early on in the election, much in the same way you can tell that putting Donald Trump in politics is a train-wreck waiting to happen. It doesn't take much, but unfortunately the majority of Australia's voters at that point couldn't even muster to vote with just an ounce of character judgement (which is mildly frightening). These people had to learn from their voter stupidity the hard way. Yes, even a monkey would do.

Imagine Fox News dictating the nations news coverage, and owning a majority of of the newspapers (without any alternative). That is Australia with Rupert Murdoch in charge. Nothing this man offered was critiqued, it was literally just daily coverage of the former government and how they were destroying the country. Thus, people got scared and voted for Tony. His achievements since coming in to power revolve around taking money from the poor and giving it to the rich. Thus, he is now one of the least popular leaders in Australia's history and will no doubt go down as the worst Prime Minister this country has ever had.

@keaedz
@keaedz 9 жыл бұрын
In what way? We managed to prevent the LNP getting a majority in the senate (upper house). This means their budget is effectively on hold and most of the unpopular ideas have been stopped (for now). Tony Abbott was never really considered popular, rather an alternative. So fortunately the system worked. Beyond that, people only really took notice post election because a majority of the policies Tony Abbott took to the election have been put aside, and they are now implementing a pretty awful neo-liberal agenda. That woke everyone up. Keep in mind we have compulsory voting as well, so a lot of apathetic people will vote without much research. Thus, a dominant conservative media (print, TV and radio) has a huge influence.

The sad thing is, the press/media here in Australia continue even today to over look these things. Not surprising as it was the press/media who got him into power through such selective reporting. As an example that wink during the interview. Now that I have seen it first hand rather than the edited version, I see that it was an offensive reaction by our prime minister towards a elderly lady who has just admitted to him that she is forced to engage in such behaviour for her to be able to pay her way. That disclosure is not a joke, its a sad reflection on where our country is heading.

I think one of the main reasons was his promise to stop the illegal immigrants and everything he promised before the election which turned out to be all lies except for the boats. There was always something about Abbott that I didn't like, he would frown when interviewed and always looked like a kid who got caught with his hands in the cookie jar, at the time I couldn't quite put my finger on what is was about him that made me feel uncomfortable, now we know, he's a liar!

Don't ask me to pronounce it but look up "Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument". It's one of the many things he doesn't get credit for. Every President gets slighted. My main problem with President Bush is that he surrounded himself with people who carried their own monetary agendas into office with them.
@MyKingdomForaHearse
@MyKingdomForaHearse 10 жыл бұрын
Moreththerogue It is an unfortunate reality that in capitalist countries like ours, it’s the big moneyed interests that control political policy - and often own the politicians as well. For example, name a senator who served between the Civil War and World War I? Chances are unless you’re a history buff or a politics junkie you won’t be able to. Now, name a tycoon who bought senators during the same period? - J.P. Morgan, John D. Rockefeller ... it’s easier. To foreigners like me, George W. Bush always looked like the front man of vested interests represented by people like Richard Cheney. There wasn’t even any pretense to hide it. “All questions in a democracy are questions of money.” Mark Hanna, William McKinley’s campaign manager
@Moreththerogue
@Moreththerogue 10 жыл бұрын
Free Speech Smuggler I agree that money plays far too much of a role in all governments and because the U.S. puts itself so prominently on the world stage, we get (and rightfully so) a great deal of scrutiny. Most Americans will, if asked issue by issue, will agree and disagree with most Presidents about equally. The problem we have now is that moneyed interests are able to purchase so much influence. In government, in media and in industry. It's led to a general apathy among voters here, who feel powerless. Which is exactly what those interests are after. You're right in that people can name the robber barons far easier than the politicians of the time. While several reasons exist for this, I think the main being we, in America, have made them icons, good and bad, of their time. In contrast, Congress has been compared to watching sausage being made. While most people here have always found congress abhorrent. Congress has always seemed like a necessary evil, but people have traditionally supported their own congressmen / women. President George W. Bush, like every modern President, has been hamstrung by moneyed influence. In addidtion to that, most Americans would agree that the people he surrounded himself, came into their respective offices with their own agendas. If there were any one thing I'd have an issue with it's this; Once he realized that to be the case, that he didn't fire the lot of them. I understand there would've been some chaos created by that and too many people would've chosen the "better the devil you know" route. But to my mind, it would've been better than the trillion dollar debacle in Iraq that cost thousands of servicemen and over a hundred thousand civilians their lives. But I get your point. The average person will never hear of the "positive" things President Bush did anymore than hear of the horrendous things a President they support did. Political and news dweebs like us (Yes, I include you in that ;)) may look at the whole story. But few others do, in modern media spoon fed society. Damn, sorry such a long post man.

Trent Kelly and your shit fucking labour party has a documented history of: - getting our country BILLIONS of dollars into debt without having anything to show for it accept for a sculptures down by our seasides & harbours. - not being able to elect a leader for its party, kicking the PM out of his seat to a stupid gillard only to bring him in - sending URANIUM to india. URANIUM... Yes, that's the shit that they use to make ATOMIC weapons for you people out there that don't know. After the atrocities that your pathetic labour party has committed to this country you are obviously either completely blind, or a typical selfish labour piece of shit who wants to bludge off the rest of us hard working tax payers!

AJ Bones you want to talk about history do you AJ? ok fine. - that fuckhead howard who introduced the GST tax was liberal. - howard was able to "balance the books" by selling off massive amounts of assets like Telstra. - the debt labor accumulated was worsened by Liberal selling of assets meaning less income during the GFC - australia despite the global financial crisis didn't do horribly bad working in a construction industry i was fully aware of the crisis and luckily Australia did pretty fucking well our company didn't have to let anyone go during the period. - tony abbott and his fuckhead right wing party ignored the world heritage listing of the great barrier reef and plan on dredging it DESPITE environmental scientists warnings that it would have far reaching effects. (a tourist hot spot earning the region millions of dollars a year) fightforthereef.org.au/risks/dredging/ - abbotts refusal to listen to the scientific community because it directly contends with his corporate buddies plans to gain as much profit as possible evidence by the scrapping of all global warming legislation and the mining tax. which is funny because the mining tax was meant to keep the money that would otherwise go overseas in Australia how is that bad? they were never going to stop mining they just want more money. - howard quoted that they should relax unfair dismissal laws which are the laws that protect you from getting sacked for being gay or just not being liked by your boss or other bullshit reasons that shouldnt effect your job. - so fucking what uranium isn't exactly hard to get if we didn't sell it to them someone else would have and its massively hard to turn it into a bomb and beyond that India has a few nukes oooohhh that's so scary its not like Russia and America don't have enough nukes to completely destroy all life as we know it on earth thousands of times over already. - labor selling uranium to India = money, governments need money and establishing good ties with India and possibly helping secure more trade in the future secures our future. - also Australians financial position according to independent outside organizations was pretty good at the end of the GFC a fact abbott wouldn't tell you because he would much prefer to scare you with out of context number and hope your stupid enough to forget the reasons it got so high here is some reading for you www.smh.com.au/federal-politics/political-news/australias-credit-rating-still-aaaok-20130329-2gyct.html so in closing no i'm not blind and i have a full time job and i have never been on any government benefit program and im just not stupid like you i don't just watch the news and listen to the oppositions scare tactics to get elected which apparently got you hook line and sinker and also buddy the fact that your pathetic hardcore liberal arguments are either A: omg look at the debt. or B: you must be a centrelink regular. statements which just further prove that you are in fact a moron.

According to economists, if Peter Costello and Johnny Howard hadn't given good size tax cuts to the better off and the baby bonus to everyone, we would still be in the black, have a surplus, despite the Labor spending... Of course, Tony Abbott isn't going to take away these tax cuts from the voters with the better incomes, too simple a solution to sorting out the budget, no its so much easier to take from the poorer in our society, and increase inequality. Of course no one seems to remember that Labor got us through the Global Financial Crisis, imagine how Abbott would have behaved...
