Almost feels as though it's Christmas and concept of gift giving generally is only there to boost economy and encourage spending. In almost all other countries outside US/UK rarely do men every buy women expensive rings/jewellery or lingerie but in the US it's quite common especially for Valentines and Birthdays. Yes in all those other places maybe they earn less but they seem to give more thoughtful and loving gifts to one another. Heck even where Tony's from, his heritage somewhere in the south of Italy... I can't remember if it was Sicily or Naples but definitely in the south of Italy where majority low-income/poor people live and where traditionally the Mafia come from. On the other hand, the north of Italy is traditionally where the rich and famous live like Milan/ Venice etc.
