I think a lot of this show reinforced the idea that old habits die hard. Tony raiding the fridge, Chris and his drug addiction, Feach Tony B and Phil returning to the life after 15+ years in prison, Carmela continuing to love Tony despite his continued infidelity. There are prob dozens of examples of It throughout the show. Time and circumstance may change, but ppl almost always act in ways and patterns that feel familiar to them, no matter how illogical or destructive these habits are from an objective perspective.

David Chase's original arc for the series was a four-season run. While some of its best work came in Seasons 5 & 6, I think this finale would have been a fine way to wrap Tony's development; leaving us with Tony never being legally punished for his many crimes, but being punished personally with the realization of his greatest fear (losing his family, "those ducks flying away").

Meadows acting in this scene never fails to make me feel so bad for her, was she spoiled and selfish a lot of times sure all kids are at one point but the scene that breaks my heart is when she’s in her room and now she starts blaming herself for her parents divorce over some trivial comment she made years ago and she seems so genuinely upset Jaime Lynn singler is amazing
@NotSoRandom_

I don’t think she’s blaming herself it’s more her reminiscing on the smaller moments with her and her parents, but obviously where she’s angry and in hindsight she’d not appreciated. But then again maybe you’re right, kids would often blame themselves whenever when divorces happen

Ok but realistically what job should a middle aged woman whose main experience is as a homemaker be? And do you really think mobsters like Tony who pretend to care about "traditional roles" was looking for a strong, independent woman with a career? Let's be real here. Carmela's a gold-digging hypocrite, fine. But Tony's, like, a literal sociopathic violent criminal. At the end of the day, he'll always be the worse human being of the two.

@@janosmarothy5409 I work at the post office. it isn't rocket science. she could work and do double shifts at Albertson's. they pay medical and give a pension after 26 yrs. I never said it would be pleasant, but it's a life. plenty of people get up and do it every single day. at least Tony is upfront about who he is. Carmela is not a victim. she knows who Tony is and where the money comes from. she cant play the babe in the woods routine anymore. she is just as accountable.

When I watch these scenes I realise why I relate to this show so much....the sopranos isn't a show about the mob with family elements....it's a family drama with mob elements....it's like watching everyday life of every family out there but they threw some mob bits in to make it more interesting and easily digestible because hey who doesn't like a mob show. It's glorious.

Not to mention that he "risked his life" to get that house by stealing from and hurting other people.
