Tony Blackburn celebrates 60 years of broadcasting

Tony Blackburn's first broadcast was on pirate station Radio Caroline on 25 July 1964. 60 years later he was doing the rounds of tv and radio interviews to mark that anniversary.

1 of the few radio 2 broadcasters worth listening too. Very knowledgeable on music and a decent man. Alan Keith kept going into his 90s. 2 of my sisters said Noel Edmonds speaks very highly of Tony.

What an absolute legend & a national treasure Tony Blackburn is. I was listening to him at work today to BBC Radio 2 talking to Gary Davies who was sitting in for Vernon Kay & Jeremy Vine about when he started this day 60 years ago on the pirate radio station Radio Caroline & him being the first DJ on BBC Radio 1 in 1967 & I admit I was really fascinated. I do love listening in to his Sounds of the Sixties show on BBC Radio 2 on early Saturday morning & I am just amazed how knowledgeable he is on the songs he plays & his time with Dermot O'Leary is just something else with those Dad jokes being told lol! I sincerely hope he will not retire & that he will carry on as long as he is mentally & physically able to. Well done Tony & here is to many more years of broadcasting.

Shame the archive footage was of the wrong ship. Tony's debut was on Radio Caroline (south) based on the MV Mi Amigo, footage was of the MV Fredericia,, the home of Radio Caroline (north), then anchored off The Isle of Man.
