This is great !!--did you know,- Tony-Curtis was in the U.S.N.--during W.W.2--he was in Submarines !!-& he was no "Cream-Puff"--
@DonaldPBorchersOGАй бұрын
Yes, Tony Curtis served in the US Navy during World War II: Enlistment: Curtis enlisted in the Navy in 1942 under his birth name, Bernard Schwartz. Training: Curtis qualified for signal school and became a Signalman Third Class. He also applied for sub school, but was assigned to the USS Proteus, a submarine tender, instead. Service: Curtis served aboard the USS Proteus in Guam, where he was part of a relief crew. He was also on the signal bridge of the Proteus in Tokyo Bay when the Japanese surrendered in 1945. Discharge: Curtis was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1945. After the war: Curtis used the GI Bill to attend acting school and moved to Hollywood in 1948. He went on to star in many films, including Some Like It Hot, Houdini, Operation Petticoat, The Defiant Ones, and Spartacus. Burial: Curtis was buried with full military honors.

Although this is a fictional movie there was a whole lot more sportsmanship and gentlemen back then as shown after Curtis takes the title and the ex champ showed up and congratulates and compliments the new champ. I am sick of all sports today with the overpaid over rated trash talking, egomaniacs, crybabys and excuse makers.

The film was pretty cornball stuff,but it did have a cameo by the great Joe Liouis.So it wasn't a complete loss.
@pearlbrandwein47319 ай бұрын
What's cornball about post- WW II America when the economy was booming, women working outside the house, saving money for a second car, family vacation or kiddie braces. Kids had friends, played sports outdoors while some were more studious, others more athletic jocks. A college degree wasn't necessary; there were many good, high-paying jobs for HS grads. Life was easier, less pressured not as complex or complicated as it has become. Richard Scanlan: if you weren't around then, why denigrate the Boomer Generation? You would have been extremely lucky if you had been born or grew up in the 1950s. You don't know what you missed. I feel sorry for you, you're blowing hot air around with no substance. Educate yourself!!! READ ABOUT THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS of Boomer -- I'm sure you don't measure up in any shape, form or intellect.
