Tony Hawk's Platinum Trophy GRIND Is INSANE!

The phone thing reminded me of chasing the Platinum in the original Borderlands which had co-op specific trophies. I had a second controller but no one to play with, so I turned the second controller on and left it idle to play as, basically, a single player. The big problem is that the difficulty is scaled for two players so it becomes incredibly difficult. I did manage to do it and Platinum the game but it was such a massive waste of time and effort.

This platinum is so tedious its actually illegal. I only need the " reach level 100 " trophy to get the Platinum but it's nearly impossible to get that amount of xp without literally completing every challenge in the game and online.

Love this concept for videos. It's really cool to see more content focusing on this aspect of gaming because it's such a big thing for me yet you don't see many videos about it for whatever reason. Been platinum hunting for years now and this is definitely one of the most difficult I've gone for in a while. I just really couldn't get some of those "get-theres" down at all. I only have bullring left but I've put THPS on the back burner for a bit while I focus on some more forgiving games lol.

All of those Get There challenges were so incredibly hard but SO rewarding when you finally nail them. That was so much fun for a longtime THPS fan. I didn't even attempt any of the challenges that require a grind though ("grind" as in, "time wasting", not grinding a rail). I've always hated any kind of achievement or unlockable that is nothing but a gigantic time commitment and requires no real skill lol.

I’m also part of that .1% of Platinum owners & watching this was such a fun / kind of horrifying experience. Mainly because that when the game first came out & I started playing it, living in California, there were major fires that started to happen around the game’s launch & I was within the danger zone. I grabbed all the consoles I could, including my PS4, & my family took me to a hotel where they let me live for a month & a half (with crappy hotel wifi, mind you). So not only was I doing online college & a fire scaring me into thinking we’d lose our home (we didn’t, thankfully), but the realization of grinding this trophy was such a massive headache. Because I did it legit (except the 10,000 trick, where it’s Create-a-Park) with doing all challenges for all characters’ tours. Even did 10 Million Combo, but it was such a teeth grinder to get it legit, but I got it. But I didn’t know about the New York spot with cheats can work too. Took me 7 months & 2 weeks to get all the trophies, 5 months to just get to 100. Thankfully, when the PS5 version launched with Cross-save, I transferred over the save data & got an instant Platinum for the PS5 version as well as the PS4, which is rightfully deserved for the grind. It’s a fantastic game & this was a great video to bring back such a good / bad memory for me! Congrats on your journey, my dude! ❤🎉

This game really needed THPS3 in it as well, to justify lvl 100, all the gear and challenges. Also because way less people have played that game and it is just as good. It makes sense not to include Pro Skater 4 as that was the first Tony Hawk game to ditch the 2 minute timer and have missions.

one obscure tip for the horse trophy, if you are using 2 controllers, have the second controller bail by standing still and holding a tailgrab untill they bail, for some reason it skips the bailing animation, speeds it up by a lot.

Really excited to watch this video! The grind for level 100 alone is insane and I don't have console so i haven't seen what it takes for platinum but there are some insane challenges in this game that are honestly harder than some of the other really grindy things I've done in other games in the past... Played since the first thps all throughout my childhood and this remaster could not be more perfect imo. I've now reached level 100, gotten all the single player challenges done including all tours, and my current goal is to get a top 100 speedrun on every pc leaderboard but some maps are insane. Just made me happy to see a THPS video in my recommended at all so thanks for your effort on this video and I'm about to really enjoy it I can tell!

Even with the newer challenges they added before shutting down the studio completed I still was only at like level 93 out of 100 with almost 100% of single player challenges complete, it's actually insane! I grinded the hell out of that game right before the last update with the new challenges came up where you can get easily so much more XP without doing that much. Also remember that a couple of pretty hard gaps where buggy and I had to hit them so often. I could have saved myself a minimum of 4 weeks constantly grinding every day the sh** out of it while listening to multiple books on audible. I still dig the feeling after completing the "hard get there's". I literally almost cried after the bull ring and venice beach ones. The feeling after reaching level 100 and getting the platinum was priceless! Friendly greetings from germany and stay healthy!

I was one of the lead testers on this, and we had to make sure every trophy was, in fact, achievable. I feel bad for the poor guy who got assigned the hard get-theres. Pretty sure he was the last person to finish his assigned work xD Sadly, the servers got messed up, and with VV being essentially dissolved, there's basically no one at the wheel anymore to fix them :(

That 10 million challenge is insane, I got very good at the game and couldn’t get passed the 2 million mark. At that point I realized it was almost impossible for me to achieve that challenge and gave up haha I got a lot of challenges completed and a little over half of the players challenges done. It was a nightmare even getting to that point.

That really was a fun video! I saw it, and i remembered, how much of a big fan i was of THPS 1-4. So I bought the game and wanted to plat it myself (I never was an achievementhunter, I think I plated 5-7 Games in my whole life^^) Some of the Hard To Gets were REALLY frustrating! But the Level 100 is easy if you have a PC. With "Remote Play" and the "PS4 Macro" you can let the PC play the same macro over and over again (I think it was 1 Million in one combo für the 300XP - End Session - Start new Session)...So you could just let the PC grind points while you were sleeping...It was my last achievement and i let it run for 2 nights or something like this... Bingo Bango! Platinum! What a ride this was!

I recently finally got the platinum trophy of this game, and it took me about a month to get. But I loved the expierience of playing it so much even the struggle of completing all the hard get-there's, and doing the gaps was a blast. Though I made the really stupid mistake by thinking of grinding out all the skaters, completing every single one of their challenges, and even doing a few of the platinum score challenges to get enough XP to make it to level 100, and I didn't even level up once. All-in-all though this game was fantastic and I hope they make a new one someday. (Hopefully make it less aching to get to level 100)

For anyone still trying to grind to level 100. If you have done a lot of challenges and done as much as you can, load up a run on Philadelphia. Make sure all game mods are are for the perfect balancing of grinding and manuals. Grind the inside of the fountain and spam buttons for 1 minute, then stop and whatever trick you are on leave it for 30 seconds. With 30 seconds remaining go into a manual and leave it for the remaining time. At the end you should have achieved 300 XP Bonus Score, 150 XP score, 25 XP Grind time and 25 XP Manual time. That is 500 XP in 2 minutes. You could also break up the 1 min Grind combos and find a way to incorporate a lip trick to get 25 XP Lip time. You can go past the 2 minutes anyway if you are still in a trick in overtime

the most time efficient way of doing this is to find a combo that gets to 1mil quickly, like 900s between every planter, and as soon as you hit 1mil end the run. This gives you a little less xp (300 vs 600 for a finished 2 min run) but you can do this 4 or 5 times in 2 mins so the xp yield is higher. Even doing this, it took me quite a few hours to go from 96 to 100.

I have the THPS 1+2 platinum. And it was a pain in the ass. Since in my first playthrough I reached level 70, Then my PS4 died and I lost the save game. I started again and finally got to level 100 to get the last trophy. The 900 + 360 Varial McTwist trick is the best thing that helped me do it as fast as possible. Even so, I spent many hours dedicating myself to just that. Also going very well, especially to change a bit and not get too overwhelmed, the 1 Million combo on NY City doing the 900 + grinds in the Park entrance gap, like in this video.

I struggled on malls get there before I realized you can hold the x button just before landing into a manual to keep your speed. After knowing that they weren’t that bad. School 2, Venice beach, and bullring took me quite a few tries. I had to grind 30 levels and took about 8 hours.

9:00 That cheese strat park is genius and wish I came across it while doing my run because I would have got such a kick out of it. The one I used consisted of a quarter pipe to get off a couple special air tricks and then to do a series of an absurd number of rail hops around the perimeter of the map. It served it's purpose but it was a little buggy as you'd over jump some of the rails and had to restart a few times. The way you used seemed a lot easier.

@@TannerJaye I believe to maximize xp in a run you had to have a certain score, combo and grind and manual times. So someone created a map to do just this in a run that took like 10 seconds. Just played that over and over until 100 was hit. If you really wanted to be cheesy with it you could use a program written to record controller presses, that you could play back and when timed right allowed the game to grind out the levels on it's own. I never went that far to do it, but I thought about it.

Alternatively, you can also enjoy the game and try to do as many challenges as possible. Some of the challenges actually have a nice 5k exp reward and are not really hard. Those challenges pushed me from lvl 60-ish to level 91, so my grind to reach 100 wasn't too too bad.

By the time I only had the level 100 trophy left, I'd already gotten pretty much everything I wanted out of the game so I just wanted to get to 100 as efficiently as possible, they really expected people to go for all the challenges but 0.1% doesn't lie

Man I got the platinum when the game came out on the PS4...took me a huge time...then I missed the game and downloaded on PS5 to play again and found out that I could get all the trophies again for the PS5 version...and for some reason I STARTED THIS GRIND AGAIN. This game is so good but holy shit I forgot how insane the grind was...and your video is like watching myself do it lol.Thanks for it, fun stuff. I'm currently level 85 and going for the second platinum. Probably one of the few idiots in the world who will have two platinums for this game but it is what it is

It's way quicker to make par on the speedruns. Warehouse, Hangar and Mall are easy to make par with if you're semi decent at the game.

i know exactly how you had to feel, im currently still trying, after ~5 months, to get every single challenge that is in the game, at least as much as i can since the multiplayer servers for pc are apparently shutdown, its been already like 70 hours and honestly the grind is just horrible

I'm at lvl 82 without ever doing any flatland. Never used the perfect grind settings or anything like that. Haven't done any of the 2 player trophies yet, didn't realise you can do on split screen, thought is was for online play. I have a second controller (it died, playing this game of course) so can get these done now. Some of the get there's are really challenging but got them done. The long manual from the roof through the tunnel and the long manual in Philly were the toughest. I think I've done all the combos now. Haven't done all the secret scores. Some of them are like 18 mil etc. If I do flatland at the end of my run I could do them easily though. Anyway, love the game, loved the original!

I did this on Xbox for all the achievements during the first month the game came out. Just checked my dates and it took one month to the day to get the 1000G. The ONE HUNDRED! achievement is sitting at 0.08% of gamers’s unlocked this. The level 100 grind really sucked but it doesn’t hold a candle to my worst all time grind. That honour goes out to getting 100% on Quake 4.

@@TannerJaye Number 1 on MP Leaderboard to start. (Everyone boosted it with a glitch) 10,000 Kills in Ranked matches. Run 1000 flags in Ranked was a grind. You had to complete the campaign 4 times because difficulty achievements did not stack. The real nightmare though was 5000 Ranked multiplayer matches. Which doesn’t sound too crazy but here’s the problem: the game was dead after the first two months and no body was playing. You can get a game going with two players which is fine and the most you could ask for. However, if you did not have a full lobby (99% of the time), then there is a two minute count down in the lobby before the game starts. We were literally playing for 12+ hours a day and on a really good day, we might get 130 matches done. Half the day was spent sitting in the lobby while I watched TV.
