1 issue- for the hook he was saying don't pull your hand in a circle back towards your rear shoulder, put your hand through the bag along that lateral axis. i think.
@justinmaxwell5866
@justinmaxwell5866 2 жыл бұрын
The only issue I found with the tip 2 for the Hook is its counterintuitive for Muay Thai / Kickboxing related techniques. If you turn your foot inwards to the punch, you're open for a devastating leg kick. However, this is super beneficial for Boxing only. I copied Liam Harrison's hook which is basically transferring all your weight to your hook and exaggerate the shoulder movement.

Man, his channel is amazing. His channel and Gabriel Varga's is basically where I learn the most about martial arts in KZbin, so much great content. When you asked that "foot and then hand or at the same time" I wondered if that came from the typical kata style of movement. I always wonder about that. WT ponsae and Karate kata usually go with the body before technique.

I'm a long time karate guy, but because I think cross training is valuable, I went to a boxing coach. He was all over me for the points Tony makes -- relaxing rather than being tense (which karate people are prone to), turning the hips and shoulders (which karate people are taught not to do), extending the arm, and stepping with the punch. Doing these things indeed makes a great deal of difference. Thanks Tony and Seth.

This was really cool! The whole video was helpful, but was especially interesting when he talked about going all the way through with the strikes, which is something I've been told and have said time and time again regarding board breaking specifically, but I think I lose sight of that concept in many other situations. Love this collab, I'll for sure be checking out his channel.

His advice looks very similar to Peter Consterdine's "double hip" punches, very nice advice, especially for those of us coming from point karate (aka foot-fist fencing) who tend to pull our punches about 5 meters before the target

I have been doing boxing for a couple of years, and until today I wasn't able to quite point out why some people have crap hooks and others have solid ones. Besides that it's always nice to have someone else repeat what you are already doing. It makes you mind a bit more.

@@Olav_Hansen agreed on that. Ive never been taught how to strike by anyone outside of a combat sport so i don't know what they are taught in terms of punches. I wouldnt mind being a fly on the wall to see how everything is taught.
