Cannot underplay this guys talent.Bought his music from Day One until the end and was privileged to have seen him perform live in London 8 times.Just loved his originality.Nobody, but nobody, writes lyrics like Tony Joe White. A simple thanks from me.

This guy wrote so many truly great songs.Quality not the usual standard formatted songs. Why did he just not get the recognition that he truly deserved?

Pack my suitcase, pair of boots Slip out the backdoor, nothing to lose Full moon rising out on the road Ain't carrying nothing but this heavy load Turning loose of the ties that bind Feeling turmoil in my mind But I can't look back, these times are gone I know, I can't go back home My granddaddy he mends his fence He stands tall but he's kind of bent His hands are worn, but they are strong Takes care of his place, he lives alone I'm sure he wonders what's happened to me He's keeping it real, I'm living a dream He checks the cows, Lord, he's up at dawn But I know I can't go back home There was a storm the other night Had to talk to God, try to set things right Church door was locked, Lord, I stood in the rain Waiting for an answer but it never came I believe in living, give it all I got I'm strong enough except when I'm not Little piece of daylight, time to move on It's just a reminder, I can't go back home Just a reminder I can't go back home Just a reminder I can't go back home I can't go back home No going home Can't go back home
When I heard ( Polk Salad Annie ) back in the 60’s went out and bought the album, was 1.25 $ back then, picked up all I could find by him, have quite a few now thanks to the internet. Listen to a few on my KZbin music list every night! Thanks T J W. 😎

SAW Tony Joe open for Steppenwolf in 1969 in Nashville with the prettiest girl I ever loved. Fast forward to 2016, Aug. 47 years later.. Same girl/woman sitting next table over stage front I had made sure of it. We remained friends all these years. I had tickets to see him in Franklin TN in 2011 and had a trip moved and left those tickets for her.

Can't Go Back Home Packing my suitcase, tan boots Slip out the back door and nothing to loose Full moon rising out on the road Ain't carrying nothing but the heavy load Turn in lose of the ties that bind Feeling turmol in my mind But I can't look back, these times are gone I know, I can't go back home My grand-daddy he left his things He stands tall but he's kinda bent His hands are warm But they are strong Takes care of his place, he lives alone Now I'm sure he wonders what's happen to me He's keeping it real, I'm living a dream He checks the cows, Lord, he's up at dawn But I know I can't go back home There was a storm the other night Had to talk to God, try to set things right Church door was locked, Lord, I stood in the rain Waiting for and answer But it never came I believe in living, give it all I got I'm strong enough to except all that A little piece of daylight, time to move on It's just a reminder, I can't go back home Just a reminder I can't go back home Just a reminder I can't go back home I can't go back home No going home Can't go back home
