Tony T.S. McPhee: The TS stands for "tough shit," or so says the lore surrounding this neglected genius. The guy fronts a power trio until he cultivates an interest in the ARP 2600 synthesizer, then tours for a year or so as a solo act in 1973, focusing on the synth apparently. I didn't learn about this until the 1980s, and can't find many details about this phase of his career. Though their styles are quite different, McPhee is sort of a combo between Bill Nelson (Be Bop Deluxe) and Rory Gallagher in my criss-crossed mind. Don't ask me to explain, because I'll never understand why The Groundhogs never made it big in the U.S. in the same retrospective fashion as Nelson and Gallagher.

Rory Gallagher may well have been in awe of Tony's playing, but, if you read a Zig Zag interview with Tony, it likely that they both valued one another skills a lot.

If that was Hendrix up there playing exactly the same genius guitar riffs, the crowd would have gone x10 wild. The fickle face of fashion dictates the trend in taste for all too many.

Why is camera following bass when TS is playing
@Deizulh4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that's my main critique as well. I suppose with there being only one *on stage* camera-man, they just wanted to be fair to Dave (bass) and Mick(y) [drums] by not exclusively focusing Tony the whole show, but definitely during his solo's, he should've been given priority. I suspect we can all agree though, that we're just happy this footage even exists.
