Sir !!! my oh my, how 'up in the world' our Mr. Herring is laddering.....and even without the sash and badge, Sir Tony Robinson really comes across as a celebrity that understands how much his roles have touched the lives of people, giving them Joy as well as a place and a voice. let's face it, if you don't know a Baldrick, then you are the Baldrick. and we love it. Thank you Mr. Herring as always, for putting something Good on the wwweb.

The funny thing about Maid Marian looking back is I don't think it ever occurred to me (or I suspect a lot of children) watching it that there was anything strange about a woman being in charge. As much as people love to slam diversity in the media now, I think shows like Maid Marian probably do have a significant impact in terms of shaping children's world view.

They quoted the pee up the tree anecdote in the latest episode of Have I Got News for You! I felt obliged to mention this interview in the quotes section on that video.

When he tells the story about Brian Blessed in the shopping centre it feels a bit Partridge. lol.

I just had to find that bit again for a fellow Blessed fan. 36:48 was the lead into the cherry on this delicious cake for me. I wish I had been there. This podcast is the perfect amuse bouche for the now legendary #175.

Apparently I'm one of the very, very few people on the planet who thinks the first series of Blackadder was frinking awesome. I loved Rowan's character in that series, largely because, great as Rowan is at witty jibes and pointed barbs, he's even better at physical comedy, and the first series was the only one where he was allowed to shine in that regard.
@rabidbigdog Жыл бұрын
Blackadder Series One was/is fantastic. The show concept changed when the BBC said they didn't want to spend a bomb on production and I believe Rowan said he wasn't that confident with the writing. Elton/Curtis definitely brought some new ideas to the show and made it better/just-as-good.

I think that announcement about Tony Robinson and Adele getting the awards, about 7 mins in to this video, was on Radio 4. I heard it and thought exactly the same. The news reader was doing the 'horrific breaking news' tone of voice when she announced it.

Damn he was right about Trump. I would love it if they did a Black Adder even if it was a special based in a WW2 POW camp were you had Edmund basically running the camp.

Tony Robinson, a guy who called out the Windors for not being the correct royals, even going as far as tracking down the correct royal family, then accepted a Knighthood off them anyway.
@osky5168 жыл бұрын
X he explained that. Should probably watch before thinking you're clever eh?
@PaulEcosse8 жыл бұрын
Oh I am incredibly clever, believe. How about you hook me up with a link to where it is explained..?
@Steve_92928 жыл бұрын
+X In the lack of a response otherwise I think they're referring to around the 25 minute mark where he mentions he thought it was alright because it was brought up by the Honours Committee rather than by the Royals themselves. For what it's worth honestly I'm inclined to agree with your original point and would add to it; I think it's bollocks to profess socialistic tendencies then accept a peerage, but that was his explanation. I don't think it was much of one personally, it boiled down to ''well I deserved it because I've done good things'' which is arse, but there we are, these luvvies can't be troubled with consistency.

9:37 - "Men smelt of f*** or sweat"... Whoa, there! 🤭 For any shocked US peeps, that's not a sexual slur; in Britain an 'eff ay gee' is primarily a cigarette; the word can also mean a tiresome chore that you'd rather avoid ("The lawn needs mowing, but I just can't be f**ged"). A f** is also a term used to describe an unpaid servant in the form of a younger boy who does tedious domestic tasks for a more senior boy in some expensive boarding schools (running errands, cleaning, bed-making, laundry, returning library books, completing homework assignments, buying food supplies, etc. Fa**ing is basically bruise-free consensual slavery, and not anything sexual.) Meanwhile, an 'eff ay gee gee oh tee' is a bundle of wooden sticks or kindling; and also a traditional type of meatball made from minced pork and offal. Economical and very nourishing, I'm told... But in British English, 'eff ay gee' has absolutely nothing to do with being 'gee ay why'. I'm having to be careful what I write here because KZbin is patrolled by Merkin auto-censorship algorithms which are wholesome and pious and God-fearin' and heavily armed, so I can't even use the three-letter 'f'-word that rhymes with 'bag' without being burned at the stake for being a despicable limey and making Jeebus cry. 🙄
