Sibson was an excellent fighter, all heart and muscle. If it was'nt for the great and formidable Marvelous Marvin, Tony would have been a worthy World Champion. It's only now, nearly 40 years on that Sibbo gets truly appreciated 👊

I don’t think so Glen. I was around in those Sibbo days and the public loved him back then.
@Bazooka1833 жыл бұрын
@@copferthat I was too, but Sibbo did have his doubters. As you appreciate though, to the learned eye of the aficianado........the man was a real class act 😉👊

Guys like Dwight Davidson were put on this Earth, I guess, to break one's heart. Tall, fast, skilled, strong, and with a powerful right straight hand, Dwight showed real promise in his fights with contenders Curtis Parker & Wilford Scypion, only to allow unknown Robbie Epps to jog for ten rounds only flicking a stiff jab--in Las Vegas!--and thus end his undefeated run & then almost giving Tony Sibon the first four rounds of this match (with Sibon's pressure)--in Sibon's home country of England!--certainly guaranteeing a close decision, if nothing else. Were his hands troubling him? Did Dwight have personal problems he couldn't forget before the fight? Was he injured in training? Did the Kings--Don & Carl--bet heavily on Sibon & thereby not bring Davidson along properly in training? Too many questions for this match. Dwight should've got a shot at Hagler's middleweight crown by 1982 and instead, because of efforts like this, he's almost forgotten by boxing fans.

Well thats not Sibbos fault and give credit where credit is due Tony Sibson won. Its the same thing they (Americans) say about Donald Curry vs Lloyd Honeyghan. Oh he had weight issues. NOT! Honeyghans fault and he battered the cobra all over that American Ring and made him quit on his stool. Stop with the Excuses . @cohenhaywood10

Siibson overcomes height advantage by swarming inside to land punches on Davison!he also cuts the ring off too!

Strange performance, Davidson looks like he is capable of so much more but mostly he can't be bothered to fight. I wonder why, was he struggling to make the weight? Sibbo was a tough fighter, all heart.

probably was one of those arrogant dudes who thought a white guy couldn't beat him
@pukulu9 ай бұрын
There was too much holding in this fight. Davison did not fight much on the inside. He also did not use his jab very much, which is why Sibson outpointed him.

Always loved Sibson for messing up Lucas on short notice. Lucas was one of these Michael X sorts from the islands. Real chip-shoulder merchant. Hated Whitey. And Sibson gave him some blue to go with his black.

Sibson vs Canelo?
@NJM10164 жыл бұрын
errol kim I think Canelo would beat Sibbo, perhaps stop him late in the fight. Sibbo was a wrecking ball at middleweight but I don’t think he had the ring craft of Canelo.

@@NJM1016 sibson didn't take drugs either. I dont like people like Canelo mentioned with honest boxers like Sibson. I cant even watch great fight like Pryor v Arguello because of the same thing

They seem to act as if Hagler should've gone to England to fight Sibson. Why? Hagler was the champion. He shouldn't have to go to another man's country to defend his title. Let the challenger come to him.
@Andy123Harris15 жыл бұрын
Sure, but there would've been huge interest in the UK, leading to a bigger gate & purse. A bit like HW fights at the moment. But Hagler's fight against Minter was accompanied by some shameful post-fight scenes, so it's hardly surprising he had no interest in returning to the UK, and I think Sibson's team knew it wasn't really on the cards.

How good was an old cut-prone Kevin Finnegan to be able to beat Sibson over 15 rounds in 1979? Finnegan was well in decline by then. And still won against a guy that wrecking Minter and Lucas.

I'm not sure anyone could be said to have won this fight. Perhaps DD hugged Sibson at the end because he didn't have to get in with Hagler next? Makes sense to me
@johnshell24808 жыл бұрын
I though DD was gonna be next champ. I don't know what happened but he handles Parker and Scypion easily. Like you said Epps and Sibson out hustled him. Weird to me.

They need to find Dwight and interview him. I know he was going to school for something at one time. Maybe his interests outside the ring had his interests more than in the ring.

He was simply too laid back in the ring combined with low ring IQ.. Even in the Sypion fight, he didn't do much after the first round knockdown of Sypion. Against Epps, he refused to press the action when Epps wouldn't come to him. Here against Siibson, he doesn't use his jab enough and let's the much shorter Sibson get inside of his reach consistently, thus fighting Sibson's fight. Dwight was physically strong and had a good chin, so there was no chance of Sibson knocking him out, but he should have used his height and reach better. He could have hurt Sibson from the outside with the jab and right hand. Look what the tall Don Lee was able to do against Sibson later.
