Invader Zim quietly inspired so many shows and individual characters and storytelling/illustration/animation styles, it's crazy. If you're old enough to have rocked with Zim, you know exactly what I'm talking about. Billy and Mandy is one notable example, so is Randy Cunningham 9th Grade Ninja. Heck, Rick and Morty in both artistic portrayal and tone is very clearly inspired by shows like Invader Zim. Watch an episode of both back to back and tell me the difference. Zim could easily exist in the same universe as Rick, they're essentially the same archetype. Both despise performative or forced intimacy/vulnerability, both are genius creators with a knack for causing their own problems, and both live comfortably hiding in plain sight because of how incredibly aloof and ignorant the general American populous is.
