Tony Stewart also recently reveled in an interview with Dan Patrick as he lay in the hospital after his wreck in the 2001 Daytona 500 they accidently rolled Dale into the same room as him and that absolutely haunts him to this day.

Have to say this about Stewart's comments in '06: The way they were driving, he had a very valid point. Even to this day, I don't like the pack racing at restrictor plate tracks, but I haven't really liked any racing at superspeedways since the mid 90s. Now, everyone wanted to throw shade his way because, following his comments, he made that move near the front of the pack. You have to realize that proves his point. If it hadn't been him making that move, it would have been someone else. What he was saying in his statement is that drivers have NO CHOICE but to drive that aggressively if they're gonna win, and it's bound to cause a huge wreck and hurt somebody. It's an inevitability. He wasn't wrong, either, every year since there has been a massive wreck at some point during the 500 (and every other restrictor plate race, for that matter) because they have no choice but to drive that aggressively. They just wanted to give Tony a bad rap for that move because NASCAR doesn't like when a driver points out one of their errors (consider Kyle Busch in the first COT after his Bristol win). Fortunately, none of the mandatory "big one" crashes have resulted in fatality, though plenty of drivers have been injured in these wrecks.

I don’t care what people say about Tony! The guy could drive any car fast. He is the only open wheel driver who came in in the modern era and was truly successful. 3 championships, 40 something wins. And he showed the emotion that we beg for nowadays. But then they call him a hothead and an idiot. Yep, he had one or two that maybe crossed the line. But it really pisses me off when Kyle Busch and Kurt Busch get ridiculed for showing emotion. And then they turn around and say they want drivers to show emotion. It just makes no sense

Great video and analysis of Stewart’s misfortune in the Daytona 500... However, there are 2 things to add: In the 2005 Daytona 500, Michael Waltrip and Jeff Gordon were the main cars to beat in that race. When those two cars led, Stewart couldn’t even get close enough to their bumpers to even try to pass them. After Waltrip fell out bc of engine failure, Gordon was Stewart’s main threat and was actually passing Stewart in turn 3 with less than 25 to go before Greg Biffle caused the big one... So Stewart did not have the best car in that year’s Daytona 500, Gordon and Waltrip did. Also, Stewart was without question the class of the field in the 2007 Daytona 500, but he made a mistake in turn 4 while leading that caused himself and Kurt Busch to be taken out of the race... Some people called it Karma for what he did in 2006 to Matt Kenseth. It’s still a shame that Stewart never got a true shot in 2016 to go get his missing Daytona 500 ring.
@mofoprada5 жыл бұрын
ATRAX Productions That 2005 Pepsi 400 was a show of pure dominance. He had, by far, the best car in that race. It reminded me of the car that Gordon had at Talladega earlier in that year or the piece that Junior had in the 2001 Pepsi 400. He had more downforce and better handling than anyone else on that night in 2005. The Daytona 500 car was a top 5 car, but Gordon and Waltrip had him covered.
@mofoprada5 жыл бұрын
ATRAX Productions That too... Or had Stewart lifted on lap 46, he and Gordon won’t have hit the wall and have to play catch up the rest of the race. Stewart basically threw away his chance in the 2006 Daytona 500 too many times. He and Gordon had the best cars in that race, with Kenseth being right there as well.

Or you could do a Chase Elliott 2017 missing ring and just die sect the whole race. Then you could do that with blaney from 2018. But honestly you could just pick a dale 500 race before 98 and do a video on any of those races. This has potential to be more than just a one off. I really appreciate it.

2007 and 2008 I'm sure were the hardest for Stewart. 2007 where he crashed after gaining the lead from Kurt Busch. At that point he fought back from 40th. Then in 2008 making an unlucky decision by choosing the wrong lane. I remember in 2007 I was happy that Stewart was knocked out of the race. Well he got it as an owner, but just like Earnhardt he won everything there was to win at Daytona except the 500 and he was dominant in the 500 but could never lead the last lap. Dale Sr finally got thru in his 20th try in 1998 but Stewart never did and retired but if he wouldn't have retired he could have got it, but at least he won as an owner. If not for fate Dale Sr would have at least 3 1990 for sure and Tony Stewart should have 2. Tony Stweart retired early he didn't make 20 attempts and Dale only stopped when the same race claimed him on the last lap ironically how he lost it in 1990 last lap leading flat tire turn 3. Tony Stewart had a good chance to win the 500 no matter what team. Quote from Dale in 1998 after he won "Patience is what its going to take and patience is what I will give it. If John Elway can the Super bowl I can win the Daytona 500".

Nice spin on a already fantastic series. The 2006 and 2008 stand too me (back during my time I actually rooted for drivers). 2006 for simply how Tony drove (as a fan at the time I felt ashamed) and how much of a hypocrite he was acting like. And 2008 was well heart breaking.
