True. But it should also be noted that Droopy-faced muddafookah was unethical himself. Remember that dinner scene with the other shrinks? He disclosed Tony's status as a patient. Honestly, the show doesn't portray psychiatrists in a favorable light. And it's realistic. They have too much power to manipulate people backed by soft science whose practitioners need to rigorously balance itself constantly to not become quackery.

That's the coping mechanism for these guys. To apologize you have to feel guilty for making a mistake, guilt eats you away. That's why these guys do their things and never think about it twice, to them, it is what it is, you gotta do what you gotta do, and the best of all, they make themselves think they do it for their families, to put food on the table for their families etc.

I feel like she was the bitch in this situation. When she took on Tony Soprano as a patient she knew the kinds of risks that could come with counseling a mob boss. The way the mob is so crazy about people talking to ANYONE about ANYTHING it makes me wonder what did she think was going to happen? She obviously gets a kick out of hearing about the life of a mob boss str8 from the bosses mouth.

It's much like how he kept telling her how he was going to leave previously and never come back to talk to her yet always *did* come back. 1:14 Melfi cut him off, Tony was going to say the airbag, “people buy them like you wouldn’t believe” Then Bobby was supposed to enter the diner and say “legitimate dealers, body shops, the buy and reinstall undeployed airbags, top dollar. Then Meadow enters the diner and says airbags can crush the ribs when there’s no other restraint. David Chase could have really made this scene have more impact.

@@tonygordon7571 1. Watch the episode when Tony finds out from Melfi that Gloria commited suicide. She seems cold there, the more you experience something the less of an effect it has. 2. So what? Melfi can only help someone so much, if her patient keeps doing things wrong what can Melfi do? 3. Melfi felt she was responsible because she wasn't there for the patient when they needed her. Gloria managed to see Melfi when she needed to, but she was a troubled soul. Again, watch the epsiode, Melfi said herself, "...she slipped through everyone's grasp".

My hunch is that Gloria's sessions were non-stop I wanna kill myself, kill myself, moan, moan. There's only so much BS even a therapist can take before they stop giving a s$$$. Remember how Gloria *wanted* Tony to kill her? Remember how he had to get Patsy to specifically threaten that the last thing she'd see would be his face, *not* Tony's? Dying dramatically was her favourite subject.

Because Tony kept having this delusion that he could get Melfi to submit to him. I think if this was any other therapist who talked in a negative way about his mother and himself, Tony would have killed them a long time ago. The only thing that saved Melfi was because Tony wanted her and he enjoyed the 'playing hard to get' scenario with her.
