That was best practice for a time, but almost 100 years ago. Then they taught cupping the mag (basically). That lasted a couple decades. Then they moved on to supporting the grip with both hands. Would need to look up to see how the evolution in stance between weaver and isosceles progressed. If she’s supposed to have been taught by people who were in WWII she’s perfect. One of my favourite aspects of the Sopranos is, that lots of the deaths were really unexpected. You rarely saw them coming. The killings happened because the killers were driven by their emotions. The scenes where Cristopher kills his friend, and when Tony kills Ralph is very similar to this. None of those were planned, the characters just acted as they FELT, and many times it wasn't benefitial for them. No calculation, just letting your rage or disappointment take control over your body.

I would never hold a gun let alone murder another person but vicariously thru Janice I first time experiencing this scene I instantly recalled the trauma of the domestic violence I endured as a child. I was 11 when what was supposed to be my stepfather, a druggie alcoholic POS tried to rape me (he was able to alot easier when I was much younger giving me spiked "kool-aid" to render me unconscious while the disgusting woman who claimed to be my mother would take her son and other daughter to the beach or the mall. Yeah, she just looked @ me while she was putting on her mascara and said "oh " when I told her immediately what her husband tried to do to me, vile human that woman. Anyway as I got older, the community I lived in looked out for me and that pig woman was warned that if the locals in town saw that pos man driving to buy candy and junkfood, then to the back country alone with just me in his car with him- they would call the cops ( early 80s) we kids were just beginning to be empowered about abuse and understanding we had rights) anyway so as an adolescent, what I can only imagine was his frustration because he was not be able to sexually abuse me like he was able to when I was a younger child, well one day he slapped my face violently as we both attempted to open the refrigerator door *when there was actually decent food and not just beer and government cheese blocks lol my point being it was gratifying for me personally when Janice shot Richie bc of my horrible experience. However nobody has ever struck me since, I was and continue to remain extremely hypersensitive when it comes to bad aura and evil energies. I've probably watched this scene a hundred times and what really strikes me is the sound in this scene. The sound effects are brilliantly done and help to really make the scene. Whoever did the sound deserves an award. You can hear everything. From the sound of the gas stove and greasy food bubbling in the frying pan, to the fork scraping Richie's teeth every time he puts the fork in his mouth, the sound of the magazine, and of course when Richie slugs Janice in the mouth you can just feel the punch through the crunch of the impact to Janice's mouth right through the screen. It's all so visceral. Finally, of course, there are the 2 gun shots which almost sound like a cannon going off. Truly adds to the impact of an already unforgettable scene.

From the sound of that punch, she would have been knocked out cold. It was a bit much.

you can also tell that the production used a true "prop gun" at 2:27 and 2:37 the gun fires but the slide doesnt move - just a small powder charge occurs and goes off. It's def not a real gun.

Agreed. When they killed Matt B. the SOUND of him slurping the soda is crazy! Then the blood dripping.....

I agree, this is a masterpiece of a scene. Except for one detail - you can very briefly see a crew member's hand pushing the chair back as he falls back 😂

@@A-small-amount-of-peas not a single one ends on execution on my country. There are whole KZbin channels about Police shooting people even when justified they just shoot people. Like on my country a cop can handle person with a knife etc. In your country all IT takes is taking a look on a glove box or whatever.

Scenes and characters like this are why the Sopranos is one of the finest examples of well written, expertly cast and directed shows on television. Her face after he hits her and his expression when she shoots him are perfect.

This is not coming out of nowhere. Janice is smart and knows the environment she is in. She probably had a thought multiple times that goes like "If he is ever gonna hit me, I'm gonna kill him right on the spot". Once she knew where to find a gun, she imagined shooting him if it ever comes to this. Just a little bit of daydreaming that programmed her brain to perform this exact action once the shock sets in and all concious is gone.

I remember watching this when this scene when it aired for the first time. I got an adrenaline rush just watching it. Never expected this, it came out of nowhere. And Gandolfini played the “clean up guy” to perfection. This scene has to make the top 10 list of Suprano scenes

If anything, Janice actually did Tony a favour by killing Richie and that's mostly why he helped cover for her. But I know he has issues with Janice, yet I'd like to think he will still always help her if she needs it.

Fair play to Janice she outlived all of them. That Soprano temper is dark and Janice had it in abundance.

As often as I've watched this show and rewatched this particular clip, I just realized the symbolism of the New Jersey Bride magazine. He sits on it, picks it up as though it was an inconvenience, like a pain in his butt, looks at it dismissively, and casts it aside like it means nothing. That magazine is Janice, his "New Jersey Bride."

2:28 It's easy to act like a tough guy and pick on the weak (like Beansie) until shit gets real. Look at that expression change on his face. He acted like he was invincible but after that first gunshot, he showed he was just as vulnerable as anybody else. Reality came back to get him in a big, fatal way. This was so well acted by both of them
