I've always wondered when to use cue bids. Thank you for the example you give at 27:30 which was very helpful. It showed how cue bidding can reveal when a weak doubleton can be overcome and slam exploration can continue, or be avoided. I have read there are pairs who allow a cue bid to show a first (A) or second (Kx or a singleton) round stopper. This seems ambiguous and dangerous to me - what is your opinion?

It is possible to play cuebids in such a way that a cuebid shows 1st or 2nd round control. Peter Holland describes this on kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZyQfoWgi5qcmKc - this can be a good system, but I think it is harder. I know of at least one spectacular example where 2 experts came to grief on such a hand - no one having 1st round control in 2 suits. So I prefer to teach that they show 1st round control.

Should the alert description include whether a splinter bid might be an ace?

I don't think you would need to alert something like this

If partner passes, opps pass, then I bid 1H or !S and partner then bids 2NT does that not mean Jacoby?

Thank you for your question. It is normal that 2NT by a passed hand, reverts to a normal balanced hand (10 to 11 points).

@@TonyStawBridgeClassAfter a major suit opening bid by 3r or 4th seat, the Drury convention can be used to show 11+ hands and trump support. Personally, I like Two-Way Reverse Drury, which is 2C indicating 3-card support and 3D indicating 4-card support. The Opener bids his major at the 2 level to show a light opening. Anything else is a full opener and possible game interest.

I made a video on whether to splinter with a Singelton honor on kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4STpJ6viZZsjJI
Should we outbid the opponents?
