When the commentator says 'She is so strong and powerful, on the other hand she seems so fragile and emotionally vulnerable'...Well that's someone growing up with abuse and keeping her head above water the best she can

"Something always seems to happen to Tonya" because she was poor, her abusive mother scared away prospective sponsors, she couldn't afford first-rate equipment, and she was also an emotionally temperamental person. She had her faults but the situation was stacked against her.

She started skating at 3 years old. In almost 20 years of skating, she had 3 things go wrong: her blade was messed up because she had poor equipment, her lace came undone, and one costume had a strap come off. The media made it seem like it was often. It wasn't.

Bullshit, Her coach paid for everything, her traveling, gear, off ice . Tonya was the one who wasn’t committed and did. not reach out to sponsors , Tonya was awful to her coach .. She was the abusive one on all her Relationships and one of her relationships charged her ( look it up), Tonya was not a good person , So many skaters were poor and worked very hard, Tonya did not work hard and blamed everyone else for her failures .

For everyone saying she should have just replaced her equipment, keep in mind that is a $750 blade on her skate. She wasn't raking in the big bucks during this era so just some food for thought.

The attack on Nancy Kerrigan makes her a first rate skank..."Harding was stripped of her 1994 U.S. Championship title and banned for life from participating in USFSA events as either a skater or coach. The USFSA has no authority over professional skating events, but Harding was persona non grata on the pro circuit"....🤮🤮🤮 #skank #whitetrash

People often criticized Tonya for the music she picked for her programs, but in my opinion, the hard-driven, rock and techno pop music she chose (Batman, People Are Still Having Sex, etc.) actually suited her skating style to a tee. A powerful skater with big jumps needs that kind of music to accentuate his or her style of skating. Classical dainty music didn’t suit Tonya. I wished the judges saw that, but many did not and chastised Tonya for being “not artistic enough.” In my view, Tonya was artistic with the powerful music she used to match her spectacular skating. Kerrigan, on the other hand, to me, was colorless on the ice and kind of boring to watch with her conventional movements and elevator/shopping mall music (think John Tesh, Yanni, etc.).

Can we take a second to appreciate the female commentator? She's being very fair and open-minded towards Tonya and her situation. She never stood a chance with judges etc as that's just not what they wanted for a skating champion, but she absolutely rocked. This almost made me tear up because to be such a great skater and then for unfortunate mishaps occuring (partly because of not having better equipment due to no sponsorship I'm now understanding). Tonya skated with old equipment. This is why she had more than ones problems like this one. Sad - so much talent, but without the good equipment, everything falls apart. I just wish she had the sponsors to help her always have good equipment.

I always say she was competing elite on a junior varsity budget. She did what she could with what she had and I commend her for doing what should could to succeed. Such a shame the USFSA never gave her the scores she deserved.

Vanya Staleva Please !! She has bran new fucking skates with gold blades. OSKANA Bauil is the one that used second hand equipment you're confused. NANCYS father was a welder who worked three jobs. A champion dosent fall on her ass every other competition like Tonya.did. She always blames something or someone. No competing skater skates with hammy down skates...such ridiculous talk !

Breaks your heart, from an abusive mother, abusive husband, to her being shunned and under marked in her performances because she didn't fit the "Ice princess" mold, to her being stripped of her national titles all because of her dick head ex-husband and his brainless plot to take out her competition, in the hopes he'd "win her back" if she did well at the Olympics, which ultimately ended up ruining her career, as it was speculated she was involved with the attack on Kerrigan (whether she was or not is unknown for sure) and never allowed to skate in competition ever again...truly breaks your heart

Tony’s Harding is an amazing person. She has asthma and has old equipment, but she still skates and became a very good skater despite that. And the fact that she was brave enough to stop her routine and ask to tighten her skate blade.

I totally agree ,I was watoit happen with a bunch of people and they all laughed which made me mad ! I grew up with a crappie life like hers ! I became a professional dancer at 15 till 26 when I had a horrible car accident ,and was paralyzed! I worked on Broadway and Vegas and Europe, and it was all taken away in a flash ! When I got better ,I went to school and became a psychologist! Life goes on ,but I sure do miss dancing and walking !
