late reply but you really hoenstly don't. if you have easy, fluffy apps then yes add in the animations but if you work on intense apps (like i do) which include fraud, ML/AI, deep analytics - no, you don't have to have it be perfect lol

This is soo so good, and a great reminder of how beneficial over-documenting your process can be.

Yes always keep every sketch, mocks. Take photos and videos. I remember seeing a quote saying that 70% of promotion comes from you communicating and people understanding what you do, and only 10-20% comes from actual good work.

Very true indeed. Having worked at a 10-50 staff sized start up as a designer and a 2000+ staffed multi National, I can assert that my skills were 10Xd at the first one not the latter. The latter one has mainly taught me about how inefficient large orgs are and how most of the work is simply a side effect of the size… I.e. stakeholder management, justifying every idea before you’ve built it, everything being about how well you promote internally . Yuck !

Very interesting presentation, thanks! One thing that stuck out for me though was the assumption that the solution must be to educate the kid to move the map. Maybe I am under-estimating the work involved, but my first thought was: redesign the lens attachment to extend the field of vision in the shape of the map. Then if necessary, warp the video back to rectangular again. For me, the need to educate is ideally a last resort. It’s great though that whatever the reason for starting to introduce the partner character, it got you there and it improved the product

Great storytelling! Motion design is something I’d been considering diving into lately as a ux designer. Mainly to create Lottie-type animations and custom assets for brand continuity in-app. It’s just very time-intensive. However this just convinced me of a super valuable reason to invest in it. Fantastic presentation! Thanks for sharing

Nice work. Question: There are no metrics or the impact on business the designs? Like no KPI or OKR. So how do we know if all this beautiful stuff was successful or not? Iw that because of NDAs? Or Google don't care?
