Nosferatu is a German unofficial adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula. They didn’t want to pay for the rights so they just changed names & settings. Bram Stoker’s wife sued them & as part of the settlement they were supposed to destroy every copy of the film. Clearly they didn’t do that. Now both versions of the story have gone on to become iconic.

Willem Dafoe is a top-tier actor. He literally never disappoints. Now that boy Bill Skarsgård... he's coming for that character actor throne. For me, while Nosferatu was good overall, some of the acting choices weren't great. I don't understand how Taylor-Johnson had a weak accent when he's actually British. Even though Keanu was TERRIBLE in Coppola's film, it was an overall better movie with multiple good and great actors.

Yesss! The review I’ve been lookin for from Tone! I enjoyed Nosferatu. It was dark, atmospheric and mysterious. It was grosser than I expected, but it’s a horror movie. Acting was great. Defoe was 🔥 as usual. I need a rewatch of Bram Stoker’s Dracula. In my mind it’s held up, but I might feel differently on the rewatch. It was a more romantic and dreamy watch than this vampire movie if memory serves me correctly.
@nettricegaskins187120 күн бұрын
Factoid: Prior to the 2024 film Willem Dafoe starred in Shadow of the Vampire and he portrayed a fictionalized version of the German actor Max Schreck during the production of the 1922 horror film Nosferatu, in which Schreck starred as the vampire Count Orlok. So this makes Dafoe's second Nosferatu related movie. I saw all of them and the best cinematography goes to Egger's film. Also, Egger's centered Ellen Hutter (Depp) in the new film and her character wasn't all on the sidelines like in the other films.

The best part of the movie was Count Orlok's introduction, Skaarsgard was amazing and it actually made vampires feel scary and menacing. Tbh I was a bit underwhelmed, it's not a bad movie, but it sometimes felt like a freaky ahh fantasy, than a horror story which made the third act fall flat. Just my opinion

@@hightolerance8728 You're calling it mid because it was more about the lore? Has it occured to you that that was the aim and therefore, in that aspect, it was spot on and not "mid"? @@a.j.1819 mid isn’t inherently bad lol we also not judging the lore, we judging the horror. No matter how accurate, if the focus on the lore took away the feeling of being horrified as an audience member expecting a high thrilling horror film, you’re gonna be a bit disappointed..

i LOVED this film! it was absolutely beautiful and the performances were amazing. the only issues i had was i felt orlok was more of a monster instead of a fully fleshed out character. i wanted to feel more of his sadness, loneliness and isolation. otherwise, it was amazing. i can't wait to watch it on my oled tv in 4K HDR.
@evildrmagee22 күн бұрын
It seemed to me like he was intentionally written to be a monster. They really didn't give him any humanity or redeeming qualities, which struck me as deliberate. Beautiful cinematography - that crossroads shot was gorgeous as it was foreboding - the costumes were dope, and sound design was on point. The way Orlock's voice was always front and center in all of his scenes, and those long, deep gulps he would take from his victims... So unsettling.

Lotta folks showing their ignorance. Talking bout it's just like Coppola's Dracula when it's obvious they never saw the 1922 Nosferatu which preceded even Bela Lugosi's Dracula. So, if anything it's the reverse. Either that or they complain about knowing what's going to happen...as if this story hasn't been told a million times already. Or they complain about the mustache. Once again showing their ignorance. Because if they'd read Dracula they'd know that's how Stoker wrote him. In short, folks just love complaining. Nosferatu 2024 was dope. Anyone who didn't like it, or hasn't seen the OG straight up missed out. It's their loss. Plain and simple.

I didn't really like it but I enjoyed Nosferatu: Symphony of Horror, Nosferatu the Vampyre, Shadow of the Vampire and too many Draculas to name. My favorite is Herzog's Nosferatu the Vampyre. But I'm glad some people liked the Eggers one.

@Lilboozibert21 күн бұрын
@@RaidenBckBckFwdThat's not irony that lots of things are based on books. Many of us already know the story of FW Murnau being sued by Florence Stoker, even after changing names and cutting a lot of the narrative. As a result, you get two different villains and a different heritage of movies.

I saw an interview with the director that the actress Lily Rose Depp, daughter of actor Johnny Depp and French superstar singer Vanessa Paradis, did ALL of her own physical contortions. There was no stunt double or CGI. He said he was astounded by her performance because he said she was obviously holding back during her audition where she was immediately hired but he didn’t know she could do all that. Willem Dafoe, who is in this movie as the Van Helsing-like character, played the “monster” Nosferatu in an older movie about the making of the original “Nosferatu” movie. His Nosferatu gets cast to play Nosferatu and he kills people on the set as the production rolls along. It is worth viewing. Side note: Willem Dafoe and the director, Robert Eggers, also worked together on the creepy, cinematically amazing “The Lighthouse”. What’s interesting about that movie is that Willem Dafoe and co-star Robert Pattinson stayed in character between scenes to maintain the tension between the characters. Eggers said that Dafoe did his monologue-heavy scenes in one take. He said he was a phenomenal actor who learned and could recall the ENTIRE script without prompting. That’s incredible.

It was fine but I nodded off a bit. A little beige for me but a capably made commercial horror with some stunning shots. The acting was a little too theater-play and recitive for my taste and not as psychorealist as what Eggers has previously delivered. The Herzog version, Nosferatu the Vampyre, is my favorite. In the satirical Shadow of the Vampire, Dafoe plays a great Nosferatu...playing Max Shreck.

I caught the film Christmas day, and could help but think how much this resembles Frances Ford Coppola's Dracula 1993. Between the two I give it to 1993 Dracula, because of the monster's design (I mean what was up with that mustache), nostalgia, and Gary Oldman's performance. Overall, I liked it; four saxophones out of five. I like the Witch the least of Robert Eggers films and the Light house the most. Cant wait for his next project.
