Nah, I listen to a podcast that talked about Wicked in depth. If you remember the background of the animals and about the drought that drove them out of the city, it was all Michelle’s doing. She’s a witch that can control the weather so kept the land dry to drive them out. The story has layers!! I’m listening to the book on Spotify now. I’m all in.

The police and postman be dancing knowing the choreography 😂. Wicked has become my favorite movie I have now. The societal, political and racial undertones are no secret and the movie didn’t shy away from it at all. It was a fantastic film and everyone involved brought their best selves to this project. The costume design, hair and makeup, acting, directing, set design- everything was A1!

Was waiting for this review!!🎉 Favorite song was Cynthia' first one, The Wizard and I. She really captured the feeling of praying for something important. Then, it turns out the prayer doesn't get answered in the way you'd hoped. Just brilliant! Give her all the awards!!

The last song was great, Cynthia turned it out!! “The Wiz” is THE BEST! That scene, when they reach Oz, is one of the best dance sequence scenes in cinema history…”If you not seen green, you better be wearing jade!” 👍👍

Fair point lol, and I respect your opinion. For me, I know marvel movies are unrealistic due to super heroes, other worldly villains, etc. but the characters’ actions to the situations in those movies are more realistic to me (besides having super powers). By that I mean there’s a villain and the heroes go fight them (which happens in real life sans the powers). Whereas in Wicked they had police hitting the door with a battering ram and they sang a whole 8 min song when all they had to do was jump on the broom and dip lol. That’s the unrealistic part of musicals that’s hard for me to reconcile lol. But I get why ppl enjoy them

I loved wicked! I saw it live on Broadway first and was very very excited for the movie. I'm definitely team green all day. Cynthia did such a great job with making me feel the humanity of the wicked witch! I'm obsessed with defying gravity and the wizard and I. I'm also a massive fan of The Wiz over the original wizard of Oz. Loved your perspective too ❤️

Defying Gravity is the song! The way I've been wearing that out. I get chills every time I play it. Pipes is right! I never knew Cynthia could blow. Bravo to her and Ariana in this project. The whole movie, team, everything, was phenomenal.

I love the book, baby the story in the original book was way heavier than the movie. I saw the original board way play, and that was amazing! This was a good movie adaptation of the play! Love it… only thing was it was a bit long

Team Green as well. I’m a lover of musicals and theater so this movie had me on an emotional rollercoaster. The musical pieces were EVERYTHING. I’ve seen The Wiz and Wizard of Oz many, many times but this adaptation is probably my favorite. The song, “Defying Gravity” gave me chills. I found myself wanting to stand up in the theater and give my applause like I was in a show on Broadway. I didn’t but I wanted to. lol Amazing movie!! Best of 2024.

I loved this movie so much it had me tearing up, crying, crying laughing, and all. Cynthia is so good so talented I had to go find some more of her live performances and was stuck on that last song in the movie for sure! Nobody did it like her and I love that she shared she wanted to do her own stunts, plus they were singing live while making the movie, recording,flying, that’s a lot of work. They both did so good and I can’t wait to see part two. I will always love the original and of course The Wiz! Nobody does it like MJ and Diana Ross, that’s a forever fave!

I love a good musical but its true the songs can make it or break it for ya. I literally NEVER wanted to see Wicked. No real reason except I just didn't really know much about it. Give me the Wiz let me ease on down the road. But when all the hype was up I figured let me see what this is about. I 'researched' the play and was like oh this is deep. I've seen it 3 times and currently still upset that we have to wait so long for Act II!

Man I was speechless that this was only part 1. It wasnt in ANY of the advertisement and when it said part 1 on screen i thought it just meant there was an intermission (like musicals often have). Part of me is still in the theater waiting in disbelief asking "what happens? What about the animals? What about the love triangles? Where's Dorothy?!"

Lol i love that you enjoyed Wicked!!! I've seen it 3 times and my mom has seen it 4 times! Favorite song: vocally and brought me to tears "Defying Gravity"; lyrically because I'm super single lol "I'm Not That Girl" The Wiz is STILL my #1! Wicked is easily #2 because it's just that good!!! Finally, and I'm okay dying on this hill, i never saw it for The Wizard of Oz...i respect it, but it was never my cup of tea 🤷🏾‍♀️

I'm with yon brother Ton. I have no time for the musicals. But with this one, one of the trailers spoke to me. Shocked everyone in my circle by seeing this. I thought there was a decent balance of dialoge vs singing, so it didn't loose me there. Generally, this was a pretty good movie, my beef is with how easily Elfaba's wall of DGAF broke down. Gelinda had some charming moments, but she got to bestie status was too fast with too little effort. Im not waiting with baited breath on the second installment. But, I was really interested in the story, so I Audibled the books. Lots of liberties were taken for the movie.

Different days call for different favorite songs, even though Cynthia's version of Defying Gravity is THE TRUTH🤌🏾... glad you enjoyed the film for what it is. So for a while after seeing it I was randomly humming "Popular" and "Defying Gravity". My sister says things are expanded on in Part 2, but for now I'm definitely siding with Elphaba.

I agree with you about almost everything Tony. Although I do love musicals so I don’t have a hard time when people just bust out singing lol The smooth jazz review absolutely on point! Wicked still does not touch The Wiz not at all. The Wiz has too many hits!

I wa surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I don't usually care for musicals, I am getting tired of all the Villian turned bad because they were mistreated in their past, movies. But I was all-in on this one. It was colorful and energetic and interesting. Not my favorite movie of the year, but pretty good nonetheless.
