Hello there thank you for your good video I want to ask is there a sleep mode in the soldering iron section of this product and how many watts is the soldering iron section?
@tonycstech2 жыл бұрын
No. Always on. This is not rapid heating.

Why not use the female connector of the aviation plug in the case?? Sure it's the opposite of the iron plug but it's almost impossible to accidentally touch a pin on the female connector as opposed to the male connector.

Nice video, I'm going to do almost the same modifications as you with a slight difference. I'll put a second GX12 5pin socket in the lower left corner, I'll just cut out the whole portion and rivet on an adapter plate to fit three sockets. The GX12 sockets will be wired in parallel apart from the activation line as I obviously will only be able to use one at a time, the original switch will be replaced with a KCD1 101 switch so I can pick between the two outputs

I wanted to take the time to thank you for making this great video. I recently purchased this same unit and for the price, I believe, you can't beat it. I've had a look around inside my unit and found that mine is wired correctly from the factory (switch on hot). I plan to do every single mod to mine that you have done to yours. Except for the hot air holder, since I do not have a 3D printer. That stock holder is junk though and plan to find another way of remedying it. I am considering making a few additional tweaks though and one in particular I thought I would get your thoughts on. In this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oGrEeXmun9uIjJI user NorCal715 has a different brand 862D+ with a slightly different board and controller chip than our Zeny. I like the Fahrenheit mod he does to it and am wondering if we could do the same on ours. Our board doesn't have the COM port he uses to trigger the change on the controller chip but I wonder still if there is a way. I took some screen shots of his video, zoomed in on them and worked out the trace from that COM port he bridges to the controller pin. When I open my unit back up I am going to compare and see what my traces to pins look like compared to his. The mod doesn't serve any real practical purpose but I just like the idea of modding this cheap unit to the max. I've had the board out of mine once but that was before I saw his C to F mod. If I was to do it I like the idea of having the C vs F option on a toggle switch. I also like the mod he does to unearth the tips using the high value resistors. I've never made a tutorial video of this sort before but I really like the idea of doing one on this project. If I do I would like to credit you and NorCal715 in my video description as being my original guides and inspirations for my mod of the 862+.

Did your hot air gun die yet? I had 2 units one where I had maybe ten minutes total on the gun and it died. The other unit lasted until it heated up then died :/
@opticledilusi0n5 жыл бұрын
@@tonycstech they did work then died.. heater elements are good. looks like it might be the triac or the opto-switch

Did you have to rewire the switch and fuse to the hot side. I seen a few of the older vids where the manufacturer put switch on neutral line

I have two of these Zeny 862D+ units and both came wired correctly. So far I have performed all of the mods he performed here (except moving main power to front) on one of my units using the other one. I also un-earthed the tips of both the iron and the air gun using 2M Ohm resistors to ground. I got this idea from the video I linked to in my other comment here. On this Zeny unit the iron tip ground wire is part of a ribbon though and was located at pin 3 for my unit. I split it off from the ribbon and it did not cause any issues with the controller recognizing the iron (5-E error). Honestly, where the pin 3/ground lead for the iron tip went to on the PCB it looked like it just terminated and never went to ground...

I been using this unit for my CB radio shop for 2 years now works great,little under powered when soldering PL259 to RG8x coax but gets the job done.

poor chinese guys designed a safe device then you come and ruin it. why don't you use a female socket to avoid exposing mains voltage?
@jazzkutya4 жыл бұрын
@@tonycstech OK I see now what you are saying - for example the 8582d station uses same socket for the hot air gun. Shame. But this one does not and I thought they do this to achieve safety in a cheap way.

Yes. Almost all soldering stations do that. Switching it on and off to maintain temp. My $200 soldering station does that too, just not as much.

any 5 pin aviation plug style soldering iron that will plug should work. Just make sure its wired correctly before you plug it in. Or look up by the model 868D soldering iron
