I've been procrastinating on getting started in LogicPro for a solid year now, because it felt quite overwhelming. Thanks to your wonderful tutorial I was finally able to set everything up and create my first little track. Your way of explaining hits an appropriate level of detail and feels very encouraging, not patronizing in the least, while also staying quite realistic on how much of a remaining scope there is to learn. Thank you, really, for putting this together - so very helpful!

Great video! Thanks! Minor comment from a software engineer. You seem like you really enjoy understanding things deeply so the following comment is meant to be helpful to anyone coming up with a strategy for storing their Sound Library or other Asset Library. Moving your files to an SSD (Storage) doesn't have any effect on the CPU (Speed at which Logic runs). For the purpose of this discussion, a computer has three primary parts: 1. CPU or the processor/brain, 2. RAM or short term memory, and 3. Long term storage/drive (where things are saved when the computer is turned off). When a computer program, like Logic, runs, it loads the program/app and related data/sound library files used in a project from the relatively slow long term storage (SSD internal or external) into RAM so it can be accessed by the CPU super fast. The CPU/brain then interacts with what's in RAM while it runs. Once loaded into RAM, the CPU/brain no longer accesses the files in long term storage (internal SSD or external SSD). Metaphorically speaking, RAM is like your short term memory, and the SSD is like a book. Moving the files stored from the internal SSD to an external SSD frees up the internal SSDs long term storage space (blank pages in the book) but doesn't affect the performance of the CPU/Brain in any way since the CPU/Brain is accessing everything from it's short term memory (RAM) once loaded. If we're getting detail oriented, it's actually slightly slower on a Mac to load these files into RAM from the external SSD than it is to load it from the Internal SSD. The external SSD communicates over USB which is a slower bus than the bus that communicates with your internal SSD. A bus is the path or "road" that the data travels along when it is copied from long term storage to short term memory (RAM). Freeing up internal drive space is definitely a benefit as most people are limited in the amount of internal storage space they have on their computer, so it's still solid advice. It doesn't however improve the performance of Logic in any way. The only effect it has on performance is actually negative as it results in a slight slowdown of the time it takes to load a project into Logic. Nothing worth concerning ourselves with though. Personally, I like to keep the sound file library on my internal drive so I can always have access to the library, even if I'm working on my laptop in a coffee shop and don't have the external SSD with me. I keep active projects on my internal drive as well. I use my external SSD to archive older projects so my internal drive has room for my active projects and sound library. I follow the same strategy with Final Cut Pro, Xcode dev projects, and other projects that have a lot of project specific assets to be stored on disk. I can work from anywhere and have the fastest load times.

Yes, it has since disappeared for me too. I think it's due to software updates with Logic as then the older projects may crash due to old Audio Units, etc. When I went directly into my Logic folder on my computer it was in there along with the other Demo projects I used to have (Helena Beat by Foster the People and others). I've noticed that you can find old demo projects on Logic forums, but maybe I'll make a blog post with all the ones that I have for download. Thanks for the kind words regarding the video, glad you enjoyed it 👍

Thank you for creating this!!! It's really helpful. So at 38:12 my loops do change to the tempo and key of the project, but they don't actually sit as the four bar section you mention. They sit as the 2 bars only, do you know why does that happen or how can it be fixed? Thank you very much🙏🏻
@itstonyholiday
@itstonyholiday Жыл бұрын
Hey, so they might be 2/4/6/8 bars, but they will always be a multiple of the original loop. The loops that are in Apple Loops have a column called 'beats', this is how long the original loop is. You can use 'cmd + r' to repeat a 2-bar region into a 4 bar, or as many as you'd like. Thanks for watching!

Well, I‘m at 54:26 now and can only say „wow“ so far. It‘s that interesting and one can learn a lot with Logic. I don‘t think I‘ll change my mind and make my music using Apple Loops or any other loops or chord progressions. No, my music must be one that comes completely out of my mind. At least it did in my first 7 singles and I‘m proud of that although I‘m no professional. There is one exception: the drums in these singles were generated bei Logic‘s drummers which (who) I love. Of course I do some changes and sometimes add things, but most comes from the drummer (which you don‘t use). Nevertheless I keep on watching this brilliant video as it fascinates me. Moreover I as an Austrian can improve my English. 💪🏻👏🏻👍🏻🙏🏻

Thank you so much for this. I had FL Studios for the longest time on my desktop and had a friend that had Logic. I watched videos to learn it but couldn't hold on to it. I decided to buy this instead since my friend would be able to help me first hand but this also helped so much. Logic seems so much easier to use and get used to as a beginner. And having it on the laptop is just way more convenient. Thank you for helping us out!

Yea, I made this course this way (using loops) because a lot of people that are getting into making music don't have the budget or means to buy recording gear. Recording gear is another topic that can take a lot of time and detail to learn about, it would've been difficult to fit it into a 2 hour course. I don't plan on making one, but if there was enough interest I would consider it. The best route at the moment would be to piece together your own course with KZbin, search things like 'how to get started recording music' and go from there. Thanks for watching + the comment!

I just bought Logic Pro and it's now downloading the sound library. I will want to move them to an external drive, so when I choose to do that, will it transfer them to the new drive and automatically delete them from my Internal Drive, or do I have to delete the library from my Internal drive myself?
@itstonyholiday
@itstonyholiday Жыл бұрын
They will be moved, not copied. If you don't plug in your hard drive from now on when you open Logic Pro, you'll notice that a lot of the instruments have the 'download' icon next to them. Enjoy Logic!

Either will work just fine, FL and Logic are both major DAWs that continue to get updated. Obvi I'm biased because I use Logic, but it's a great software that's used in all genres in the industry. It's a bit harder to find FL tutorials for genres other than House and Trap, but Logic there seems to be tons. Thanks for the love on the video, really appreciate you checking it out!

Beginner to Beatmaker is good for beginners. That said it's going to cover topics that are harder than in this course, topics that you aren't going to grasp simply by watching the videos, you'll need to put the techniques into action. Just finished watching the whole video/course and man Im impressed, you are definitely the best youtube teacher for sure, most people that do videos like this usually dont know anything about modern music which makes it hard to try to emulate what they do cuz like they do a begginners tutorial and record a guitar solo in it lol, like how am I supposed to emulate that as a complete begginner??? if it was at least midi and they showed the notes there for ppl to copy and understand... theyre just more old fashioned ig, but anyway like I was saying your way of teaching was just amazing and easy to follow, loved the way you highlighted the hotkeys that was soooo helpful, also doing a song using apple loops was just what I was looking for! (but guess what? couldnt find a video of someone doing it without doing "complex" things without explaining how they did it lol) This video was literally God sent to me!, thank you so much for this bro I cant explain how grateful I am for this video, I might even take a look at your premium courses too as soon as I feel more confident at the UI ^^

Thank you so much for the kind and thoughtful comment, always makes me happy when someone feels the content was helpful. The whole course was meant to be 2 things: 1) an absolute-zero starting point for people that want to get into music production and Logic Pro. Moving past using loops will be in the premium courses for sure. 2) a test to see what people like about the course and if there would be interest in it. With that I’m glad you liked the hot key overlays, that’s something that really worth learning imo. With that being said, is there anything you really didn’t like about the course? Or anything you would say could use improvement? Thank you for always showing love on my videos!
