Tony Holiday I think it’s an incredible leap for Logic. I cannot say that I’ve ever seen a cooler and more well rounded DAW. IMO It’s just taken the crown from several contenders. Wonderful content as well Tony. Thanks for elucidating the newest features. I’m wondering if you can do a bass sequencing vid sometime soon? That would be excellent.
@itstonyholiday4 жыл бұрын
Could not agree more. Apple really took what was great about other DAWs and incorporated it into LPX, I’m really pleased with everything that I’m finding. For the suggestion, you mean making basslines within the step sequencer? That could make a great video for sure. Thanks for the thoughtful comment and kind words. Cheers 🤙

@@itstonyholiday Well, I regret to say that I started in on Logic to do this process (I have 10.7.1) and Drum Machine Designer no longer exists. There are several videos on KZbin describing obsolete content now as a result. The drum capabilities in 10.7.x bear no resemblance to those shown in your video, and it looks like it's been severely dumbed down to look more like GarageBand's drum configurations. Drag & Drop is gone, the 32-step patterning is gone, and the DMD interface is gone. Looks like this content needs to be revisited. I'm a neophyte six months in so take this with a grain of salt. I think they canned DMD in the 10.7 release. I will use the step sequencer while I continue to climb the learning curve :) EDIT: I WAS TOTALLY WRONG! :D

Awesome tutorial--the best part is how you boil down all the new options and get right to the best way to do things. Personally, I was like, great, Apple just gave us 10 more ways to do drums and I thought the old process was complicated and bad!!! This helps--esp. for a hip hop producer where drums are our bread and butter. BTW now that you've simplified Logic, I see that the new drum machine is basically the drum sequencer from iOS Garage Band, laid on top of the sample-handling and power of Logic--I've always wondered why more DAWs didn't incorporate FL Studio's detailed drum machine interface...down to pitching each hit individual hit (poeple can say what they like about FL Studio but their basic drum machine--after you dragged and dropped in some decent samples was far away the best and most customizable. With this release Logic has come very close, if not surpassed FL studio's drum machine, which is saying a lot.Thanks much--and for those familiar with the iOS sequencer, basically anything you could do in the iOS sequencer, you can now do in Logic, from quick rolling modifications to quick individual velocity alterations (no more trying to pick the right little dot among the thousands of dots in the automation window), down to shortening and extending individual sample tracks. Excellent video--you pinpointed my exactly what I needed to start having fun with the update instead of just being overwhelmed and pissed and lowered my stress level greatly...thought I might have to switch to my iPad permanently for making drum tracks...thanks again!

@@itstonyholiday It's kind of powerful be it seems to have some flaws still as well. At least it's very fun. Right now I'm challenging my to create a live performance track by using only the Logic Remote app and Live Loops 🙃 actually, the Remote app is just an extension and not meant to do that - but I'm curious to see what's possible! 😅

great breakdown...i'm an ableton user and now i'm jealous of the step sequencer. you're the first person to really get into it and show the parameters in depth.....midi offset in the step sequencer is really nice. of course you can do the same thing in a piano roll. but this is a nice little package.
@itstonyholiday4 жыл бұрын
I almost bought Ableton cause it was on sale the last month but I’m happy I stuck it out haha. Looking forward to diving into the 10.5 more and seeing how I can utilize the step sequencer. Thanks for watching 👍

@@itstonyholiday eh logic is cheap enough if you already have a mac. all the money i've saved on beer because of the lockout can be put to good use. my only remaining concern about logic is the sample browser. ableton has a really good search function and the sample hot swap capability is really good. I know this was an issue in logic before. do you know if they've fixed it?
@itstonyholiday4 жыл бұрын
Ya the sample browser could use a facelift for sure... I can’t say if it’s fixed or not since I haven’t had any major issues with it tho

Really appreciate the kind words and I'm happy that you found the content useful. Battery is also great but for those that are just getting started or don't have the extra $ the DMD is great. Hoping they continue to improve the workflow of it as they make more updates. Thanks for watching + the comment!

I've been using the Ultrabeat Drum machine but it never quite worked for me because I wanted something similar to FL Studio, and this is it! Very nice video, thanks for taking the time to show us, it has made creating drums a lot easier for me

Your stuff is always on point. I recently decided to take a short break and sharpen my tool kit to try and keep fresh but also efficient . Something I wish I did more often and in many more ave.s of my life. Just when I was about to get back to the grind with some new artist the label picked up and go back to doing things the old way, I found your channel and its exactly what I needed. Thanks for taking the time to learn what's new and teach it .. Im still bouncing around catching your videos months later than originally posted. Soon I should be caught up and start bugging you for a new one's . Ha
