Tony I been doing boxing a year and I alway tried to avoid peek-a-boo because everyone use it. So I instead stick with the text book boxing at home for a year and i think i got a good grasp of it from watching you and other people with tips but I need to know. A person like me who is 5'3 and 145 pound, should I use peekaboo or not.

I got 1 that you probably never heard 🤔 I’m a huge fan of Tyson & a huge Tito Trinidad 🇵🇷 fan. I noticed Tito uses a similar style but is tall & lanky is he a perfect example of how to use peek a boo as a taller fighter? & can it be equally effective as a shorter fighter?

Mike is pretty unique in that he has a compatible body type for the style. He's short for a heavyweight, with low center of gravity, superb body control for directing various swinging strikes like uppercuts and haymakers. His height was a big advantage in this style and helped his defense immensely. Stocky with powerful legs. Excellent footwork for the style. Aggressive demeanor. Mike created a worldview that fed his aggression and helped him stay on the offensive. Mike had 'IT' at that time in boxing.

I used to box in peek a boo style as a raw amateur, but my last fight i had was against a shorter stokier fighter, and i had to box a different way, as everyone else i fought had been slightly taller than me, i don't think Mike had ever fought anyone shorter than himself so peek a boo was advantagious for him and his body type, as Tyson had extreme core strength.

This was really helpful. Without realizing it, I was taught something similar. I was taught the stance, keeping cheeks covered by the gloves, and the elbows close to the body, but didn't have much emphasis on the footwork of the peek-a-boo style. My feet are more straight forward but I wasn't taught the moving back and forth like Tyson. That's interesting. I guess I was taught a variation of the style but not the true one like Tyson had.

I love this style. It works really well for me because I have a Muay Thai background, and our stance and footwork is a bit different. The way Tyson used to use his stance and Implement his lateral movement is almost the way a Thai boxer stands. The only thing we cannot do is dip as low as he did or else I would get knee or kicked right in the face. Other than that the footwork angles and power generation can be used across both styles. Why has nobody been able to replicate his style at elite level? His style was so effective against big guys, one would expect at least a few fighter using it nowadays
@arhamsingh6970
@arhamsingh6970 Жыл бұрын
It is mainly because this style is too taxing on the body. You can do it for 10 years or so before your your body starts giving out. Say a fighter has his first professional bout at age 18 and has been practicing this style for a few years, he has maybe 8 or so years before his back his fucked at which point his ability will severely deteriorate. It takes fighters 4-5 years to establish themselves in the sport, at which point he will have maybe 3 year of action left in him. Mike was lucky that he got started so young and was trained by a famous name like Cus. Most people are not that lucky you see. In contrast a guy with a more defensive style or slick style like a boxer puncher, out-boxer or a counterpuncher can go strong till his mid 30s. It’s all about longevity basically

Not only the necessary strenght and technique for the Peek A Boo style, but also the so much needed stamina and endurance. Otherwise, if you gas out because you don't have high stamina or in case your muscles get sore too easily because the high demands from this high standard style, the Peek A Boo style would be counter efficient, also to get some serious durability (not only the middle body but also the neck, chin and nervous system adaptability and resistance against brain damage)

It's okay man. You don't have to be like others and adopt a standard style.

I think your style should be based on 1. What feels natural and 2. What body type you have

Jab & shift is a good tactic. If your jab to the face makes your opponent blink, he might miss your shift movement, the next attack has a nice chance to completely take him by surprise. Of course you need crazy foot speed for it to succeed. He saw you here, saw your glove coming, blinked for a split second, and it was enough for you to shift, now he see you're not up front anymore, but before he react he takes a hook or an uppercut.

It was scary how much MT could close the distance with the peek-a-boo/Dempsey style… even with a major disadvantage with the opponents reach. The slip advancing footwork and countering was so devastating.

Peek abo translates really good for muay thai and kickboxing because of the square stance. Just don't be slipping into kicks and knees
