Maybe in another 10 years the message that people have stopped talking to each other and have taken up arms, will eventually reach the boss. You can't build a city on this type of population. The pendulum has swung away from manufacturing, and they will be touched by the public they created. Business IS unable to communicate with their creations and they're very frustrated by their customers. Business is pulling their hair out!

Really enjoyed this Tony, thanks for putting it out there! I started off in manufacturing and it breaks my heart to see how much weve lost in the UK....the fact Marshall can still build over here and sell at a very reasonable price's is a testament to them...I hope they stay commited to the high end amp manufacturing in the UK and dont go down the peavey route.

Yes I agree - you know I keep on looking for amps to review as many guys really do want to see them. But finding new tube amps is getting harder. Digital for me certainly is not king (so far) and Marshall and others I'm sure find it harder. But the factory tour was not bad. I hope this Marshall "sale" yields some distribution benefits in the USA. I realize we are going to pay more than the UK, but the markup here is insanity. I really really really hope Marshall will one day at least build a small service center in the United States that is company ran. The network of "Authorized Service" places here are a joke. The two closest to me are people's houses. 🤣 This video was fantastic Tony. I always thought Marshall was much bigger than they actually are. Let's hope they stay true to that vision (and give us a new flagship soon despite my love for my JVM).

R.I.P. to the KING!!! Regarding the Factory. These guys sure do take a lot of pride in their work. God Bless them! I expect to see a LOT more garbage being sold in the near future. After all, this is where Zound shines the most; in Bluetooth branding speakers. For people who like the Marshall look but, do not actually play an instrument. They just like to listen to Coachella through their Marshall Bluetooth speaker. When I was coming up in the 1980's and 90's a Marshall tube amp was one of the biggest wishes and dreams a lot of us guitar players could come up with. I feel like soon we will hear things from Marshall like Gibson's "play authentic" campaign. Breaks my heart to hear of this sale. Also breaks my heart to hear about drums being manufactured too. I could go on and on but, I will not.

The drums were being made in 2011? and had been for some time thanks to Jim Marshall who originally as you know was a drummer. Bear in mind that the original 'partnership' between both companies had been going on for something like 10+ years. Terry Marshall said that the sale should have been completed years ago but they just never did it. Check that interview and he really describes this aspect in detail - its always better than reading it all on some internet site that can get things wrong...

Original JTM45's and in another video there is Terry Marshall who created that one with Jim (and maybe others) that's what J (Jim) T (Terry) M obviously Marshall stood for they say. If its an old one they are not that common from what I see these days. Thanks for watching.

I have three Marshall’s. A 1972 100 watt Super Lead with a reissue 1960 AHW cab. A 62 Bluesbreaker reissue. A 1998 TSL 122. Would love to take that tour.

Well if you're in the UK you can! If you call them they will arrange to take you around the facility. I have an older video with Phil Wells and that one was really the definitive one... showed lots - and in part two of that you see Gary Moore's amp in for repair :). I too have a 1960AHW cab matched to a 1959HW head. Perfect! Thanks for watching.

Great job as always Tony. Very nice to see Marshall is modernizing but keeps the traditional side as well. I happened to notice at the 7:15 minute mark at the fancy solder box there was a "lead free" sticker up top that was applied upside-down. That was amusing and put a smile on my face. Amp techs generally hate it still. It was mandated for electronics in 2006 by the EU, forcing all amp builders or electronics etc., to use it if they wanted to sell their products in the EU. Most solder joint failures have more to do with factors other than the solder itself. Marshall forever.!!

It's generally hard for me to do them. My last one was in 2011 over 11 years ago or so. But still very interesting for sure and remember this is all post 2020 when just about every company had one problem or another for example supply chain. Thanks for watching.

Fantastic Tony , what a great British Company Marshall are . I have had amps serviced cabinets recovered and nothing but excellent service and warm communication from Marshall, I personally wouldn’t have a bad word said about them, 5 Star amps and service . I once had an original Class 5 “ the ones that had a small rattle” i bought this used they couldn’t solve the issues so they handed me a new in the box one , i was at the Factory and mentioned i bought it used , answer was no problem, just amazing service . I've had brilliant service from marshall directly over the years I took a JMP 1 pre amp into the factory for repair, they said they would test it as the fault didn't show up, so I booked a factory tour for the next weekend while they tested it further, on my return they told me they never found the fault , so to be on the safe side they ordered a new board, which has all the sub boards attached So you get a complete new pre amp built into your old case! Also marshall work to lean just in time manufacturing so every amp has a customer, so my board went through the Marshall factory with my name on it! After the brilliant factory tour and buying a few t shirts I picked up my JMP 1 and my jaw dropped when I looked at the bill! The service guy said because they couldn't identify the fault they only charged me for the labour!! It was only £40!! So I got a brand new amp that were £500 at the time! Now thats what I call service, and by the way I wasn't the original owner either so I had no guarantee. Brilliant company

This was very interesting to see, thanks for going and taking the tour. I gotta agree, hand-built is the best way, and produces the best product, regardless if it's a 100 watt 4x12 Marshall half-stack, or a toothbrush! When Hartley Peavey used to have the amps all built in Meridian, MS, USA, those amps would last forever. They were a different animal than a Marshall, no doubt. But when 'corporations' start hiring young pukes who just want to 'make thier mark' and have no quams about 'Fixing something that ain't broke', then you wind up with a company whose once 'rock solid' reputation for a top-notch quality product now becoming marginalized if not right in the $#!T-can. Marshalls aren't 'cheap' here in the States, never really were, even when I was growing up in the Late 1970s & 1980s and afterward. But if you could manage to get your hands on a JCM 800 without breaking the bank, you were doing REALLY good. This'll pi$$ off you purists, but a Peavey 6505 is a pretty damn good amp. However, like comparing a Stratocaster to a Les Paul, the Peavey 6505 'ain't' a 'Marshall'. Only a Marshall can get the 'Marshall'-sound. But the 6505 comes DAMN close, in my estimation, without breaking the bank. Would love to be able to afford to have a custom 'tolex' covered 4x12 2203 or a 68 SLP reissue Marshall, though! Would have the basketweave grill cloth on it, with Greenback 25s loaded in the slanted cab. I just don't have "4 grand, U.S." to spare rt now. One can dream though. Cool tour, thanks again!

Well, I used to own a number of Peavey amps... I distictly remember the Peavey Deuce' (I think it was called hat wrked fine for me, but I also owned a Peave Mace head... and that was 160 watt head with the tubes vertically mounted upside down in the amp - a recipe for heat is an understatement. It cooked the PCB mounted sockets to a crisp along with the PCB itself. A really unreliable amp, whereas the Deuce worked fine. However, the Marshall stuff (bearing in mind I come from Marshall land, is low cost and never let me down at all since about 1971 with many/most of the heads I have used over the years. Of course I have seen Marshall amps failed (often due to age and no maintenance) through misuse etc. and any amp will fail through that. But look after the amp and it looks after you. Thanks for watching this short(ish) tour, and on my channel I have a 2 part real in depth tour with Phil Wells and that tour of Marshall is probably one of the best you will ever see... appreciated your post too.

this is gold! everything handbuild should be promoted more, as you pay for the immense hours put into to get that level of experience in manufacturing. This applies to all guitars, amps, etc. Evidently some prices are stupendous and have a lot of added extras to it, but manual work is what makes humanity wonderful!

Marshall have made some wonderful sounding amps for sure. Indeed I have a few myself. But each of the ones I have all have a particular flavor hance why I keep them. Copied by well... everyone with a few tweaks and $1000 more than the real Marshall amps... :) The price in the USA for Marshall is to be honest as bad as Mesa Boogie was in the UK. Today I can't even find a Boogie amp in the UK. Scary.

I have a SilverJube 1987 small combo, a new SV20 Head, a DSL 20H and have had JCM800s too.All great amps. What really surprised me though, is recently updating a small CODE 25.I had dismissed it before as crap.But after the update and new phone App, it really is a great little modelling amp.

Great to see that they are still making the higher end models in the UK. Lets hope this continues under the new ownership. Having only ever bought one Marshall amp a JTM 60, which is way to loud to play at home. i am unlikely to be buying any more Marshall amps. My trusty little Vox VT40X and Roland Jazz Chorus give me far better clean tones than the Marshall which has always sounded edgy to my ears. Great video Tony, i wonder why this open day was not mentioned anywhere?

Which I think was important, and one reason I made the interview video separately. @@tonymckenzieofficial A rare chance for you to learn directly from the maker regarding where they will be in the future. As for clean tones, i have spent a fortune of amps they were supposed to sound good but didn't, why i still keep the Marshall is purely a personal one, my parents bought it for me when i bought my first USA Strat, but i couldn't afford the amp as well so my father persuaded the shop to do a deal for both, and he paid for the amp. The best clean amp i have found is the Roland Jazz Chorus i have a JC40 and the twin speakers are creamy smooth where as the Marshall always has a fuzzy edge to it.

All of great amps… 6 mont ago bought for really little money jcm2000dsl… And was blown away))) End of the story… all amps are sold, just 2000 is here and found( not so cheap) 800(2203) Ones Marshall…. Absolutely Magnificent Tour. I recently contacted Fender in Scottsdale, Arizona, and asked of they had any video tours or videos of their amp factory. According to their response, they do not and don't plan on making any informative videos, like this one. Sadly, 3 years ago I sold a Marshall JCM900 12x2 100/50 watt combo amp, that I bought new in 1994. I'll buy another Marshall, either used or new one of these days. My thanks to you and all the people at Marshall for this wonderful tour and the great work, with pride, that they do. However; Most of Marshall's amps are made in Vietnam these days and only the ones in the $2+,000 to $4,000 dollar range are actually made in England. Bottom line is, if the average person Can Afford It, it wasn't made in England. Even their tube amps. Fender too, China, etc. My new Fender '65 Super Reverb RI, with Alnico Speakers was made in California, U.S.A for just over $2,000. Same goes for the other big name brands. Difficult to find "The Real Thing"...

Great channel Tony...very informative....I own a RAT modded class 5.....I think ..the RAT guy he is retired now....you can still sometimes pick them up 2nd hand..it sounds fantastic..if you get the opportunity snap one up...one of the UKs best kept secrets.....kinda like a mini bluesbreaker in looks......but he basically takes an already pretty decent marshall amp and pimps them out....to turn it into something world class...kinda like a working class Dumble lol...its great....I owned a plexi...in the 80s....it was far too loud ..looked great with my 2 cabs...but never could use it ....I also loved my marshall TSL 60 watt combo...wish I still had it...also the marshall valve state stereo chorus was very good for a transistor amp....I don't buy amps anymore as with my marshall class 5....a VOX AC4 12..(China made not hand wired but sounds good to my ears ...I'm not a valve amp snob....I cannot tell the difference between hand wired and circuit board amps tbf...ive owned an original 60s Vox AC30 and the all be it quieter ..more managble AC4 still has the "top boost" tone ...although I imagine a hand wired one is easier to repair)...and a Roland jazz chorus I'm happy...but I don't know if it's the same but in my day ( old git talk lol) buying a Marshall was not only reasonably priced but also ensured great quality ....that said as I don't gig and only play for a hobby I rarely use an amp these days..I mainly use a multi effects unit or a ROLAND GT55 guitar synth...( I know you were not impressed Tony...when you reviewed it....but it's a complex thing and the factory patches are a mere hint to its capability....its only limitations is ones imagination)....that said its nice to have a choice....I'm kinda sad.....when I use my valve amps I always have a sniff of the vents....let's be honest.....no one sniffs a Line 6 modeling unit...lol....man I sound a bit like a valve pervert...lol

Couldn't agree more! It is always a privilege to visit Marshall. I have only been twice (one 11 years ago) but always you can see in the employees that they love the place. I was on the first group of the day. The tour was ok, felt a little rushed. Was meant to be 3 hours but was done in 1 due to the amount of people they had to get through apparently. I was taken around by someone from marketing who seemed to be a bit more on the ball with things that the guy you got, luck of the draw I guess. We got dumped in the studio at the end with not a lot to do other than buy some baseball caps off a pop-up table, and get a complimentary can of pop.

I can tell you that when I arrived and spoke with reception and other staff I noticed the sign telling me I could not video or photo. I was surprised as I hade made earlier content. However, I just asking if I could record and they said 'of course you can'. Did you go on the open day? Indeed I even interviewed Terry Marshall in the 'Studio' area and he was quite OK with it from what I saw. I can't answer it any other way, but that was what I found. Trust me, they don't treat me any differently than anyone else visiting. Thanks for the post and thanks for watching.

I can't afford to buy the little studio classic that has 1 little 10" speaker in it because in America the retail price of this tiny amp is north of $1,900.00. In the 80's myself and all my friends played through full Marshall stacks. Some of us had more than one stack. All of us were gigging on a regular basis. We had a very good local music scene, and YES you did need all that power and all of those speakers. Seems excessive now but then it wasn't. Rather, it was a necessary factor in the equation of rock bands, girls, and beer. Good times. I don't need a marshall amp at my age but I would absolutely LOVE to plug into a jcm800 and hear that sound barking back at me again. However at these prices I am priced out of this pleasure. I'm sure many young deserving guitarists are as well. If I toured the Marshall factory I would reiterate that fact several times.

Sorry to hear that... I made a tour 11 years ago and with Phil Wells, and that was quite incredible at the time. This one seemed OK, but a little more time with things like Microphones (I missed the first lady and the studio did not want a mic) so that the audio could be good (after the first presenter it all worked OK). There were areas that we did not visit which I would have liked included like the anechoic chamber Marshall have, and maybe a bit more re the testing etc. but other than that it seemed pretty good. In any case hopefully this video will be good for you. BTW There's a link to my 2011 review in the text and I can tell you that tour was exemplary... check it out. And thanks for watching.

We left Milton Keynes in the 1980s for NZ when I was 15. I wonder if I went to school with any of the veteran staff there. That's who I can blame if my amp blows up 😜 At school, they tried to teach us to talk proper and all that. BBC posh, instead of sounding like Oliver Twist. Listening to the staff, I see it did not work. You can take the Londoner out of London, but not the London out of the Londoner (when Milton Keynes was built brand new, they called us London Overspill, which I never thought was very nice of them). The Marshall cow must be a reference to Milton Keynes and its concrete cows. Concrete cows in a field, because they built a new town on what used to be prime English farmland. A piss take. Another thing MK is known for is roundabouts and a one kilometre long, mirror glass shopping centre, which was super futuristic in 1980. School was amazing in hindsight. No expense spared, so we had everything a kid could want, just about. Then the cuts arrived, but I was out of there by then. Not many Marshall amps in NZ when I arrived here in the 1980s. High tariffs made imports very expensive, which resulted in several Kiwi amp brands like Holden that AC/DC began on. Then free trade arrived in the late '80s, factories closed, and music shops had Marshall amps we could not afford because we lost our jobs (it took around ten years until NZ fully recovered from neoliberal shock therapy).

It's great that they're still building in the UK but for some reason, the old ones still sound better, and so do the old Celestions. And ask any tech, the new multi-channel ones are nightmare to service. But it's great that they're still going considering that there's no live rock music scene anymore and touring is so expensive for aspiring bands. Today, people mostly buy expensive tube amp to play by themselves hear geeking in YT videos, or in a home studio making digital recordings that never gets released on a label. I know that's very negative but...

Not Marshall anymore lol i was highly disappointed by Marshall, I have a collection of no less than a dozen Oldies Valvestate 80 line amps, anytime I see a reasonable price one up for sale in the used market I pick it up, however, the Marshall logo often degrades and cracks and brakes off, they can not be found here in Canada, so I reached out to Marshall hoping they would sell me a Dozen of them so I could replace the ones missing on my amps and have spares for future amps i'll pick up! they politely told me to F off. Eventually, they referred me to someone local that apparently is a repair representative and parts dealer for Marshall here in Montreal, which never amounted up to anything! Not bad for a company, that apparently prides itself on quality and customer service! Guess that is only true if you are a rockstar or something,

No, I already know that the Marshall badges have to be bought through a dealer. It's generally the same everywhere. And for example, it's unlikely (if you're not a registered tech) they would sell you a replacement main board for example... authorized dealers might of course, but that's the correct channel. The thing is, people (I believe) abuse things like Marshall logo's and would they sell you 10? I doubt it. But an interesting point and thanks for posting that info. Yeah, we see the problem with the upper mid-level employees who're causing all the lunacy from this brand. They feather their nest 🪹 and ignore the REAL PROBLEMS in the retail aspect of this brand. This ROBOT LIKE speak doesn't make up for retailers stealing internal components since the late 1980s. That's 3 decades, 35 years of customer abuse and this brand still doesn't care, still won't fix the terrible customer service 🙄 😒 😑 The customer is right to stop buying from Marshall brand. I hope the public can send a real message back to these LUNATICS. It seems that Marshall has multiple alternative income sources causes they seem immune to terrible sales figures and 2/3rds of retailers dying and exiting the industry. So they failed to mention 80% of sales in Australia have gone and aren't returning for them. These lower level workers can say they do this and that but you should point out that their retailers take out these great internal components before the customers get the amplifiers home 🏡 They also foolishly forgot to mention the decorate your own amplifier section of their lunatic business, FAILED. THAT MINI is just handing free money to his mates. Tiny islands don't survive in a global market place. Absurd lunatic financing is what's going on here.

If I was to speak my 'local' slang my guess is, that unless you live near to where I do that you would not have a clue what I said. I get it... it was (if you notice) that the microphone was still on the first guy and as I watched the filming I could see the audio problem. I then tried to insist that the mic was used by all speakers. The studio boys also did not use the microphone either sadly. But overall I think its a reasonable document of Marshall Amps (Now Marshall Group) in 2023 and the first video I have seen of the subject matter. The model numbers of Victoria Amps tweed amps make sense. What (if anything) do Marshall model numbers signify?

Friedman's are terrible....a JJ nonetheless, which is an incredible amp. Your statement stinks, but I still accept that you might have a different opinion, but...truth is, Friedman currently SHITS on Marshalls, in construction quality and sound. They haven't done a decent model in years. And let it be known that I love Marshalls. SLP's, JMP's and JCM800's are incredible amps. I have a most amazing Marshall SL-X (perhaps the very last decent Marshall with the Marshall character), as well, but it's only amazing because Hermansson modded it to a firebreather that cleans up amazingly well. If Marshall were intelligent, since they were bought by a Swedish company, they'd literally bury Hermansson in cash and get a production Marshall Hermansson as their new amp. Or even a Gower amp. They're most amazing as well. THEN and only then, they could reclaim their undeniable importance as a staple or rock and metal. And with all of the new quality, boutique amps on the market, it's only thanks to Friedman and Bogner keeping that old school feel alive that people still talk about Marshalls.
