Another benefit of the black is to create contrast (usually used in cinematography). If the lighting is too flat, the black can add shadow to one side to add depth.

I have the same reflectors and I only use to gold reflector at sunset (I have my subject face away from the sun and use the gold side to bounce the light onto their face and it works much better at sunset than at midday since the light is already golden at sunset). ALSO if you don't want to buy a reflector stand and you don't have an assistant, just use a tripod and the self timer on your camera. Set the self timer then while it's counting down, hold the reflector onto your subject

This reflector / diffuser is one of the best tools for such little cost that every photographer must have one. And its GREEN; no batteries required. I wish you had shown how it folds down into a fraction of its original size.... but hey! Thanks for another great video. One more potential use for this is as a background on head shots, product photography and so on. Just get one!

Simple solution when working outdoors with light stands, reflector holders etc when it gets a bit breezy -use guy lines. A few lengths of cord, a few line locks and some tent pegs and you can secure your stands. I often use two guys at 45 degrees working in opposition to the weight of whatever the stand is holding, soft box, reflector etc. In more adverse conditions simply increase the number of guys in use.

Hi Tony & Chelsea! Thanks for the video, it was helpful to actually see you handle this sizeable reflector. Currently, I'm also considering a Neewer reflector, however I'm leaning more towards the triangular version with grip. It seems easier to handle in the absence of an assistant. Not sure on the size, however (32 or 40 inches). Have you tried triangular reflectors and would you think the 40" triangle is unwieldy, or is it possible for a solo photographer to operate it? Interested in hearing your thoughts! Thanks

Note the smaller the hole the better the focus, I found that to support the back of the foil against a hard surface whilst piercing the hole worked well
@Marckymarc719 жыл бұрын
Great video guys! You can also use the black side of the reflector on the shadow-side of the subject's face to provide negative fill--boosting contrast in the shadow detail. Especially helpful when using a diffuser (or diffusing light panel) which often eliminates shadow contrast too much.

Hi Tony and Chelsea, thanks for the video! I started experimenting with a reflector recently. When using the gold side in even a softer mixed sun and cloud, I found it made my subject look somewhat 'radioactive' and possibly just slightly green. I'm not sure if this was because of the color of my subjects make up base or something else. I'd love it if you could comment further on the ideal conditions for using a gold reflector and or talk about how to rescue a photo in post where this has happened. (I'd be happy to submit a raw file for critique).

@TonyAndChelsea9 жыл бұрын
Fahad Bashraheel We reviewed light modifiers here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aYvWpYp_oJeWirc Gary Fong sent us a lightsphere for review but it did so poorly in a real-world test that we chose not to publish the results. It's vastly overpriced, mostly uncontrolled, and so heavy it screws up your flash. In all of our reviews there have only been two products that we simply couldn't find anything positive to say about.

Hi guys, Does the minimum focus distance and the ratio get effected when using full frame macro lens on a apsc crop body? Thanks
@TonyAndChelsea9 жыл бұрын
abdulmohsen alfaraj The focus distance and magnification are the same, but the relative size of the subject would be bigger at the same distance because of the smaller sensor... just apply the crop factor to the focal length & f/stop.

Very nice video, but when was it shot? Do fruit trees flower and people wear jackets in July in CT? I'm beginning to give credence to the chopper crash theory, Maybe you needed to wait until the news blew over. Today Taoseños had a big, white thunderhead as a reflector for the golden hour. Gold light (half diffuse) from all directions made for a bizarre effect,
