That simple line was to illustrate Tony's total frustration with Paulie. He fucked up collecting the money; then he goes to the Pine Barrens to bury the dude, and fucks that up. Then he gets his car stolen ( probably by the Russian), and loses the money, after all that aggravation. Now Tony looks in the rear view, and see his "Captain" with mayonnaise on his chin, like a small child or feeble adult that can't even eat a fucking sandwich right. Total, absolute, frustration.

To me, this scene justifies the disgruntled attitude the Capos had towards Tony during the Blundetto crisis and more precisely what Sil tells Tony about only doing it because “he doesn’t want to eat shit from John.” Tony in this scene says if it resurfaces it’s Paulies problem whereas when Blundetto messes up they have to “deal with it as a family.”

@likaner12 жыл бұрын
@@TheBaBaTV Still, Tony didn’t enforce adequate discipline after Paulie made the mistake. His whole passive attitude in combination with his unpredictable outbursts/temperament left his guys constantly guessing where they stood with him. If Tony was more connected with his people instead of sitting alone thinking about his life, blowing his spoils on mistresses/luxury instead of making moves for organization to expand (like a boss is supposed to do) - Paulie would know better than to f**k around like that. I think OP was inferring that this was the first sign of his passive attitude as boss, which led to a sort of ‘Every earner for himself’ atmosphere and ultimately, the downfall of his organization.

Apparently there was another scene written later on in the show with Valery returning. The scene was to depict the guys going to see Slava at his office, with Valery sweeping the floor. ~Not eating for 24 hours~ The world: "Ah well, not so bad" Italians: Dramatically cry, lose their orientation, lose pieces of clothing and try to kill each other.

It's easy to criticize Paulie for taking the risk of just going home, knowing he himself might be whacked if the Russian ever turns up again. But then again, anyone who's gotten turned around and lost in the woods, knows just how horrifying that feeling is. Add to that, at night, in freezing weather, without food, water and proper clothing, TOTALLY understands his decision. lol

I was 100% expecting the episode to end with the interior decorator running out into the middle of the road with a huge gash in his head trying to flag down Tony for a ride only to get run over

Nah, Tony would have sat him in the back of the car next to Chris and Paulie and took them all back to the city in total silence like a typical parent does when dealing with his misbehaved children. Then he would drop Valery at Slava's office and they would discuss how to punish their unruly youngsters.

Chris protecting Paulie and all he got in return was grief from Paulie. He deserves to feel bad about how he treated Christopher after he was killed by Tony.

Not on Tony's end. Tony only asked about the money and whether or not the Russian was dead when he found them. Never once asked about their injuries

This episode is legend, and provides the what if moment that has existed for fans since it aired. I remember even then years ago, wondering how it would all come back to them? when? Will Paulie recognize it? Really this episode provides that character we all wish we had managed to see again, even briefly. Alas, the mayonnaise on Paulie's chin never returned.

What's great about it is how true it is to life. In life, it's not like the movies where there's neat wrapups at the end of the episode or even the whole series. We don't know what happened to The Russian and the mobsters often don't know if something they did in the past due to some slipup will come to haunt them either. They live with the uncertainty.

With Steve Buscemi as director, all you'll get is a 100% classic film! Great episode. Btw I love how the Russian was left as a living question mark. Personally I hope he got away. He earned it. Hats off to Michael and Tony also! I feel like im in Siberia watching this episode with how well they act being cold.

@johndong75242 жыл бұрын
They left the Russian's fate unknown because it wasn't important. He was just a minor supporting character that they used to show the relationship nature between Paulie and Chris. In one of the interviews David Chase said that he was sick and tired of people who are too hung up on the Russian and what happened to him. Chase said that the Russian guy's stoty arc was of very little importance to him.
