great video! One question, how does the dr martens fit size?
@yapolloable4 жыл бұрын
The reason why you can't see the stitching on YSL is because they are not stitched, just glued, much more inferior than CP. Notice the heel of CP has the seude side, which improves heel support and prevents slippage whereas YSL doesn't have it. CP is also slightly more narrow on the ball of the foot.

Hey! Just found your channel and been watching all your vids! Was curious, what's your thoughts on the Triple White Stan Smith in comparison with these options? They go for around $80.
@TheSecondLoft5 жыл бұрын
Hey, sorry for the late response. Stan smith triple white is also a good option. It would mostly depend on your style and age. If you’re in mid 20s, I would go for something that shows more of leather texture and if you’re on the younger side, Stan smith is a great choice!
@deyo10134 жыл бұрын
Stan Smith's are a classic that can be worn by any age demographic so I have no idea what Tony's is suggesting here. If you buy a Common Project shoe at $400 thinking you are getting a luxury item, or something special, you are a sucker. They are not made of high-quality material so it is a lifestyle shoe that's posing as a luxury product.

Great video Tony, very informative. However in my opinion if you want the best minimal white sneaker i recommend Crown Northampton. Minimal as minimal can be, you can even choose a wholecut sneaker from one single leather piece, if you want. All shoes are handmade in England using only first grade leather. All shoes are made to order. The clou is they're also cheaper than the Common Projects or the YSL. Greetings from Switzerland Andy

Not judging from the price which one is a better buy for build quality Andy’s or cps?
@TheSecondLoft5 жыл бұрын

Mostly because I already owned the CPs and there wasn’t any benefit to keep the Andy’s. For comfort, I thought Andy’s was better but also keep in mind that I’ve only worn it for couple of wears and the cushioning was fresh at that time Unless you’re a super fan of SLP, I vote for CPs

Hey Jaison, thank you for the compliment! If you're comfortable with oversizing, I would say go for your true size +1. I would go my size +1 because I like the overall shoes profile when I oversize a bit. Especially with leather sneakers, it looks better when you show a slim profile by oversizing. If you want to get your size, I would say +0.5. It fits true to size but again, I always feel that it doesn't look too good when leather sneakers fit tight around your feet and considering you have wide feet, 0.5 should be safer than your true size. Assuming your true size is 9, personally, I would go for 10. Try oversizing (if you can try it on before purchasing)! Once you go down this path, you won't go back haha

Unfortunately if YSL are not stitched they are cemented (i.e. glued). Theoretically, Common Projects can be resoled if the sole wears out since they are stitched. Cemented shoes are literally the worst type of shoe to buy (and the cheapest one to make). Sorry if you had to pay full retail for YSL. I'm really surprised that the company would sell a cemented shoe. Although Doc Martens are not stitched through and also do "cementing", the way the company does it is by literally melting the sole onto the welt of the shoe. Basically making the sole and the welt to be "welded" together. I've had several pairs of Doc Marten boots and I've never had a problem with the sole coming off. So their unique cementing is no cause for concern. Thank you for the informative video!
@TheSecondLoft5 жыл бұрын
Wow! Thank you so much for your input! I didn't know that Doc Martens are also "welded" together. I can imagine how many things could go wrong with melted bottom sole. Just by walking, it'll slowly fall apart :O I always find luxury brands "cheating" their manufacturing process. Trying to maximize their profit :( I've had Golden Goose which also seems to be cemented and the sides started to crack within couple of month. Glad you enjoyed the video! If you could watch my recent uploads about "ugly shoes" and have any feedback, I'd be happy to learn more! Thank you.

Tony's Style Guide definitely! Thank you for replying. It is very unfortunate how haute couture brands charge incredible margins for a subpar products. There’s a video somewhere on here about a gentleman doing a Tom Ford Alligator loafers restoration and those shoes have fake stitching making it look as if the shoes are welted. The audacity to charge $2-$3k for those shoes and then just glue them to the midsole.

Tony's Style Guide I think social media can hold those higher end brands to better standards but unfortunately it would take serious influencers. But I really liked your very unbiased review.

@Dr.gobshite4 жыл бұрын
Andy's are not as well made as the CP. the soles are glued instead of being glued and stitched which means after time the margom sole starts to separate at the edges from the leather uppers. also the toe box is pointed on the CP and a low flat profile where as the ySL is rounded and capped tall. this low profile is why they look good more dressed up as dress shoes have low soles and a thin profile even when Goodyear welted. YSL is manufactured in the CP factory. and those Doc's shouldn't have even been in the mix. they are absolutely hideous.
