Hi Tony. Thank you for sharing your experience with the rest of us. You probably have saved someone alot of aggrevation! I have a New Holland TC45 D. Reinstalling the backhoe attachment has always been an ordeal for me, a tractor novice. I just did it in 10 minutes after 7 years of practice. I live in northern NY in the Adirondack Mtn. You don't want to mess with attachments from Dec thru April when its really cold. Enjoy your new tractor. It has some nice new features. Regards, Greg

Excellent video Tony! Just bought a BY85 backhoe for my T454 and am looking forward to putting some time on it. If you look closely at your BY75 backhoe you'll see the mounting flange for the little-known mechanical thumb (Tym part # T85A-100000 for my BY85) - I'd love to see you do a video on that too!
@TonysTractorAdventure2 жыл бұрын
Hey, Thank you for the "Thanks!" You are the first one to ever do this! How cool! I don't recommend them for any tractor backhoe unless they are commercial machines (Big Cat, etc). They are a waste of time in my opinion and will only end up damaging the backhoe with little to no use range. They just don't have the reach to do much without moving the tractor a hundred times. I know there is a mount, but I have known so many people break off their backhoe with a thumb. Spend the money on a grapple and you will be much happier and mobile. Again, just my opinion, but it is based on answering about 1000 tractor comments each week. There are three camps with a thumb. People who have damaged their backhoe, those that will damage their backhoe, and those that buy them but never use them. This is across the board with all brands. All said with love.

Pretty slick job Tony. They make em really easy nowadays. I remember back in the mid 80's they weren't so easy. I work at a Gas Company and they bought a midsize Ford tractor, and the design was a little more difficult back then, than they are today. By the end of the summer I got pretty good at removing the loader and putting it back on. Thanks buddy. I keep saying my next tractor will come with a backhoe. Their really handy.

Hey Tony, thanks for your videos. It's so nice to watch someone like you with knowledge and experience that really helps novices like myself. So I just yesterday got my T494 delivered. It has a backhoe as well. But when the guy dropped it off, he gave me all the three point hitch parts separately. I asked him why it's was removed and he said it has to be removed when installing the backhoe. I even called the dealership after he left and he told me the same thing. But you clearly have yours on and it doesn't seem to be a problem. Is there anything I'm missing here? And since you did leave it on, is it better in the raised or lowered position? Thanks for your help Tony.

I loved your videos , but tell me do you know of a mechanical thumb setup for the by75 backhoe?
@TonysTractorAdventure6 ай бұрын
I have never had a use for a thumb. So many people damage the backhoe pivot mounts driving around with stuff hanging off of the backhoe. I get a thousand comments each week, so I have a broad picture of the industry. It doesn't matter the brand of tractor, these small backhoes can't hold up to a thumb long term. In my humble opinion, they are good at digging, but not much more. It ends up much cheaper in the long run, to just get a grapple for the front if you need to move stuff.

Thanks for the great demonstration. I have a TYM 394 with backhoe and mounts pretty much the same. My backhoe settles down over night, so I add a pin in the empty hole where the red TYM arm pivots up and down off of the black hinge point. I notice you don't use this pin, does your backhoe maintain its position after you turn off the engine or does it slowly settle with gravity ? My JD backhoe maintains its position, but it is also hard plumbed where my TYM uses quick connects like yours. I love my TYM by the way, after 4 years, not one problem that I couldn't take care of myself. Well made tractors, easy to work on and maintain, mine has a Yanmar diesel which is top notch too. My knees don't like pavement, and humidity is not my friend either. 🥵🥵🥵

hey I'm new to this but I've heard of backhoes cracking frames. I think the way you lifted that fully extended backhoe with no support from your outriggers could be a cause for this kind of damage. did you see the whole thing flex when you did that ?. out riggers are there for a reason use them until the backhoe is fully secured
@TonysTractorAdventure Жыл бұрын
I appreciate your input, but I am more likely to get hit by lightning under water in a submarine than damage the backhoe taking it on or off. I have used tractor backhoes many hundreds of hours without damaging one. I do not agree with using the backhoe to pick the back of the tractor up. To this point, I have never heard of a T474 backhoe breaking a tractor, but I still don't lift the rear.

My T474 is now 2yrs old. I've watched many of your informative videos and have learned tips and trick along the way. However, putting my backhoe on when needed is a struggle. Not actually installing it but reconnecting the hydraulic lines. Yes I do relieve the pressure before disconnecting the lines, but it still must build pressure when its stored. I always have to unthread the fittings from the hoses on the backhoe to relieve the pressure so my lines will connect. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Or is there an easier way to release the pressure for easy hook up??
@TonysTractorAdventure6 ай бұрын
I release the pressure on the tractor while off. Never connect while running. I release all the pressure off the backhoe side including outriggers. If that doesn't work, wack the top of the male hose against the backhoe frame. It will squirt out

How can you relieve the pressure in the hydraulic hoses to attach them to the tractor ?
@TonysTractorAdventure Жыл бұрын
Kevin, They make a tool to release the pressure by depressing the nipple on the male pioneer coupler. I just hit the male pioneer coupler's nipple straight down on solid metal. Oil will spray a little bit, but it is quick and it works. Before you do that, move all of your backhoe controls. Make sure the tractor is off and you have moved the rear remote valve through open, neutral and open while the engine is off.

Wife here.. we removed our backhoe and somehow lowered the lower linkage. We can't figure out how to raise it back up so we can reconnect the backhoe. We have a tym hst t494 Tractor. We have tried all the settings and can't send to get it right.
@TonysTractorAdventure Жыл бұрын
Your rear remote lever has a detent locking it open to provide continuous hydraulic flow to the backhoe. Once the backhoe is removed, the rear remote lever must be pulled back to the center. Doing this will allow the hydraulic pressure to flow through your Three Point Hitch valve. Raise your Three point hitch back to the desired height. Back over the backhoe far enough to hook your hoses back up. Push the rear remote to the on position. It will lock-in. If the backhoe will not move, lock the dented rear remote lever to the other side. Be careful putting on the backhoe. There is a hydraulic filter hanging down where it could be hit and damaged on some T494s. The newest tractors have the hydraulic filter aimed out to the side. Last year's models and older had the hydraulic filter aimed down.

@@TonysTractorAdventure I'm sure I'd use it if I had it, but I don't really need it. I considered all the years I've got by without one, the hassle of taking it off whenever I need the 3pt, the wear and tear on my tractor, the cost, and how much better an actual excavator digs compared to a tractor backhoe. There are a lot of negatives. Also they didn't have one available on the lot when I bought my tractor. I'd probably have went home with it otherwise!
