You don't need Concrete to install a Fence Post! Fast 2K vs Sika composite foam test! Second Release. KZbin Corrupted the first release. Concrete alternatives for post-installation have advanced far in the last few years in the form of foam. Fence post or building post, one foam product, in my opinion, should not be on the market. Watch and see as we put these composite foam products to the test. This is not a sponsored video and we bought all the products in this video. I am sure one manufacturer is definitely not going to sponsor us after this video. #fencepost

As quick as i could pour 2 back ti back. It was minnesota fall, about 50 degrees. I felt i had time to mix and pour both bags back to back b4 the rraction started.

Wow I didn’t realize a person would have (4) 10” foot mail box post next to each other. Poor mail man will need a ladder if he goes to your apartment building. With that said the instructions clearly say it is for small “NONSTRUCTURAL” applications. Do your homework. After seeing how you failed to read the instructions it is making me buy more of the sika bags than I first intended. It inspired me to do more diy projects in my backyard. Thanks for confusing everyone who watched this video. 😢🎉

As you said in the beginning, you might expect a Pepsi/Coke comparison, where one product has a slight advantage versus the other, and vice-versa. This is no match and even defeats its own purpose!!! Great video, and really appreciate the time and effort you’ve put in to showcase both products in a fair side by side testing. Have you tried a comparison with the other Fast 2K products? I was looking into their website and found a product made for utility poles called q-set 250 utility pole backfill… curious how the various Fast 2K products would compare…
@TonysTractorAdventure
@TonysTractorAdventure Жыл бұрын
q-set 250 is made by Fast2K(H.B. Fuller) but marketed by another company to only be used with satellite dishes posts installation. I am not sure if Q-Set 250 is as strong as Fast2K. Fast2K has building certifications. My understanding is, there is nothing currently on the market that truly compares to Fast2K.

The product does state that it is not meant for structural projects. So a barn or anything with much weight or engineering behind it. I don't know either one of these brands. I have some that comes in 1-gallon jugs (on jug for each reagent) that I bought off Amazon. I've never had any posts come out less than rock solid. I had tried stuff in bags before, and it seemed to me that it wasn't getting mixed properly. The stuff I got in the gallon jugs is a little more trouble to mix - you have to use cups and stir sticks. But it is incredibly solid every time. For what it's worth, they use foam to set telephone poles now. If it didn't work, or if it was inconsistent, they wouldn't trust telephone poles to it.

Excellent video. You helped me change my mind about using "any" foam. As the earth heats and cools, what will the foam be like in a year of contraction and expansion? I don't want to find out. Drove by a white plastic-type fence the other day and it's leaning over in multiple places - I'm probably right in guessing that someone used foam...

There is no perfect test in the field, but it will be the same result every time. Sika shrinks.
@chiraldude
@chiraldude Жыл бұрын
After watching a bunch of videos about foam post setting, I have come to the conclusion that the Seika product engineers decided to go for the fastest cure time over all else. What that means is that the reaction goes really fast, generating lots of heat in the process. The post will be very solid in the ground after 15-20 min but then the foam cools and shrinks, leaving a void between the foam and the soil. The question is whether this is a total fail or not. I believe that, in the long term, it will be ok. Eventually, the soil will fill in the gap from rain and/or seasonal temperature cycles and the post will become tighter in the ground. For a fence, this will be fine, but for something more structural, this is not good. One thing I would like to know is whether you could stabilize the post by filling the gap with water to jump start the process of soil filling in the gap. In sandy soil, this might happen fairly quickly. In clay soil, adding some sand and washing it in with water might give a good result.
@TonysTractorAdventure
@TonysTractorAdventure Жыл бұрын
I understand what you are saying, but if your hypothesis is true, then Sika is the only product in the market OK with loose posts. Once the wind starts wiggling the post, it will never let up.

While I agree with everything you are showing and thanks for doing it, my only thought is after some rain the ground will suck up to the wood and grab it. I wonder if you came back after a good rain would the Sika tighten up? We have a sandy/clay dirt here and I find something stuck in the ground gets harder to pull up after a little while. Can only be the ground sucking up to the pole? I've pounded 4x4 into the ground by a creek and it sits there like a rock after a few days of the ground sucking up to it it seems.

Sika is open cell foam. Fast 2k is closed, cell and waterproof. It waterproofs the wood. That's why it's worth the extra money.

you may want to double check the specs on the loader and verify against actual weight I'm not being a critic but most loaders are turned back so the rear of the tractor dose not come up off the ground. I think you will be surprised to find your actual capacity is much lower than the spec sheet. I currently have a massy 260 75 hp row crop with a Allied 595 SH (The H indicates the large Cylinder Capacity loader). The tractor has the weights inside and outside 200 lb a side for a total of400 lbs. To add to that both rear wheels have 85 gallons of Calcium in them for a total of 85 gal X11.5 lbs per Gal 975lbs a side so the total extra counter balance weight 2350lb plus whatever the rear of the tractor is. The capacity of my loader in its current configuration is 8800lb breakout cap of 6175 lbs. Now with all the weight on the back I get light on my back wheels at 2600lbs (a tote of feed) Some times we will get a 3000 lb tote of supplement and the back wheels will come off the ground completely. Yes my loader will lift 6150 lbs but I need a huge amount of counter balance to do this. I would say at max with the posthole auger attached you exerted max 1400 lbs (possible less) on the post. One more thing Rpm dose not create more power hydraulically it creates more volume no matter the rpm once you have reached the relief pressure level hydraulic fluid will be redirected through the relief valve. All more rpm will do is get you to relief pressure faster.

It is funny you should say that. I have a digital scale. The T474 lifts about 200 pounds more than rated at the pins. I consistently get 25xx pounds lift to full height. I get around 32xx at low levels. I need to do a video.

Hère is the thing: cement has proven to be an excellent means of solidifying posts for probably 100 years. I helped a neighbor install Fast 2k And I was impressed. However, how will it stand the test of time and what advantage is there over cement, which I know will work? If it ain’t broke ….

I understand where you are coming from, but times have changed. Due to EPA restrictions, the treatment used in post are not the same as just a few years ago. Concrete will rot a wood post off in just a few years. Utility companies have been using this type foam product around utility post for over 25 years. It holds up plus it waterproofs the post. Fast2K is one of the best ways to build a barn now. It is stronger than concrete and so much easier to work with.

@@TonysTractorAdventure Thanks. Yep, I have heard 2K is good for a long time, but never really looked into it. However, I have seen the results of Sika... BAD! I am old and have always used concrete. (Professional construction.) So, I can easily deduce what/how much I need. But, I checked out your video because I will do some post work in the near future and was considering foam. From what I know, with foam there is not as much leeway. You get a bag, (bags), mush it up and pour, use it all or waste what's left. That seems to be the downside for me. I do not like waste! Anyway, thanks for the video! (I have to research bag size/s, etc. For instance, the bag you used is designed for that application.) BTW, I was considering foam for my home. My neighbor did a very bad job of setting posts with concrete and really messed up - encroached upon - my putting up a fence next to his. He's a great neighbor. He just hired a poor workman! I will probably work a deal with him just to tie into his fence with just enough extra support to keep everything up. (I seriously doubt we will wind up in a legal battle about his concrete on my property. :-) )

You can't compare Fast2k to concrete. Concrete will rot off a treated post in 4 to 5 years. The post you can buy now are not like they use to be. Fast2K holds the post in the ground stronger and protects your investment.

It costs a little more than 2 bags of rapid set concrete, but you save a lot more in labor. I actually save homeowners money using the foam. Sika didn't work for me either though. I hate concrete, but I wouldn't use the foam if I thought it was a lesser, gimmick or trick. It's worth it all around

Question if anybody can aswer thanks in advance. I have a void space under the corner of a concrete pad that has a structure on top. The void isnt more than 4 or 5 inches. If i was to activate the fast2k properly, open the bag and get the bag as far as i can into the void, im assuming itll just expand normally? Pouring it into the void doesnt seem possible or effective for what i want. Seem like itd work right?
@TonysTractorAdventure

This could go wrong. Fast2k expands outwards. There is a possibility of lifting the floor thereby, breaking the concrete flow. It is much stronger than most people understand. My tractor lifting over 2k pounds could pull the post out of the ground, because Fast2K is pushing out into the ground.
