just looked Scotty up online. Gained EVERYTHING back plus more. Feel really bad for him, but I can't say I'm surprised.
@robertlouque880710 жыл бұрын
I am not surprised either but for different reasons. The show never showed this but I bet those kids were literally starving the entire time at camp. 1300 calories is pathetic and far below what a normal sedentary person needs to maintain their weight (I need 2100 calories just to maintain 170 pounds). It's easy to lose weight when there is nothing to eat because you are being denied food. It's a much different matter when your body is crying out for food and there is food available. This "camp" could have done just a good of a job helping these kids by just feeding them real food and enough of it so they learned the difference between being full or satisfied with a meal and mindless eating just to eat. Low fat diets have been put up against higher fat diets time and time again and the low fat diet has always been vastly inferior. You could have fed these kids 1300 calories of Twix bars and they would have lost weight because they would not have had access to more than that. I do not understand why the causes behind the obesity epidemic escape so many people. Just eat real food. Ditch the boxes and fat free fake foods and we will all be healthier. I am willing to bet if Scott went on a Paleoish type diet the pounds would come off. It's very hard to overeat on a Paleo or any real food diet.

Eri T Scotty didn't have a chance given the mother he was stuck with.
@hyperbabe20099 жыл бұрын
+Robert Louque I agree. Their diet isn't sufficient. They should offer them a chance to eat healthy fats like olives almonds peanut butter avocados they can't even eat those! No real eggs only plain egg whites with no cheese. Yuck! Plus their salad bar contains a bowl of Splenda, also unhealthy. The staff should teach these kids to just eat sugar in moderation rather than only eliminate fats and add Splenda to their fruit. Artificial sweeteners are linked to weight gain bc they trick your body into eating sugary foods. They told these kids they can't have a normal Thanksgiving but cmon thanksgiving only comes once a year!

Well, if they really weren't raised in areas that have snowy weather, we shouldn't judge them for not wanting to workout in the snow. Why on earth they can't do the same run indoors? They could also be given an alternative, such as, either do the run properly or clean up rooms, toilets+bathroom floors and common area floors before they get to eat.
@princessrockman95283 жыл бұрын
Listen stop judging. I live in Michigan and we have snow and A LOT of IT. I’ve lived here my entire life and it’s not about being “afraid”. If you are overweight or have any kind of issue with balance SNOW IS SCARY. If you don’t have that well good for you. Maybe instead of judging others count your blessing that you don’t have issues. Why do people like you have to look down on others rather than be happy and blessed with what you have? What a great world this would be if people did that!!

Sad to say it, but Scott has been raised spoiled, entitled and deluded and has no hope of ever taking responsibility for his condition or improving it because he has an idiot for a mother who supports him in his delusion that he's doing a fantastic job and trying really hard. My eyes nearly fell out of my head when the Mum held a fundraiser - actually expecting people to donate their hard-earned money - to support Scott's 'weight loss journey' and then let him sit there in front of all the people absolutely stuffing his face (and I mean stuffing - no table manners taught there!) with hotdogs, buns and whatever else he could get his hands on. Seriously??! 😲 My purse would have been straight back in my pocket at that point!!! Meanwhile - Tanisha - LOVE that girl. Hope she makes it to the bench of the Supreme Court. ❤❤

It takes 3500 calories to gain a pound of FAT. That's how much energy is needed to create fat. Everyone gains a pound or two a day, and loses it, because that's water and the body digesting. Your weight will change throughout the day, but your body fat percentage won't. After thanksgiving I gained 5 pounds by the night time, and in two days it was all completely gone.

It’s really simple why these kids relapse. If you tell anyone you can’t have a cookie they want a cookie. But if you tell someone with a food addiction you can’t have a cookie they will make up every excuse as to why they can have not only one but the whole package. This school needs to focus on portions and not restricting temptations. These children have to live in the really world with really people, they need to learn how to just have a cookie or a piece of fried chicken and not the whole thing.

I cannot believe scottys parents. I am not downing Scotty because he is like 14 which in reality is still pretty young. Def still in need of parental guidance at that age! I am however disgusted by his mother. She is an enabler and could even be called his crutch. He will never be a healthy weight or have a good relationship with food as long as they are close. I didn't get it at first but I finally figured out she is the ultimate helicopter parent. She talks a good game outwardly like talking up how important it was for Scotty to be able to go back. Yet on every other level she is sabotaging him and undermining his confidence. She uses the excuse that she's not going to watch his portions or get him out of bed because he should be mature enough to do that on his own. That's such a BS cop out!! HES 14!! Still a baby!! And why aren't they doing it together as a family for things like turkey day since they've had weight issues as well?! And then to blatantly lie to the teacher/counselor that calls her because hes concerned! His parents are paying them a ridiculous amount to help their son so why TF would you lie to them of all people?! If mom isn't doing all of that because she doesn't want to cut the umbilical cord then the only other explanation is she has serious mental issues. There's no way that kid can win!

They were fed only 1,300 calories a day, telling kids to drop down to 700 calories if they didn't lose more than 1 pound in a week, and the families had to pay over $6,000 per month. 1,300 calories for these kids would put their bodies in starvation mode. It tells me these people were incompetent and didn't have a clue what they were doing.

+Leggo My Ego When you eat less calories than you burn you lose weight, when you eat lower than 1,000 calories your body starts to use the fat you have stored up to fill in the calories you aren't eating, which makes the fat go away.
@2011blueman9 жыл бұрын
Devon Mays Anytime you create a calorie deficit you'll lose weight, but so few calories causes your basal metabolic rate to slow drastically in a process called adaptive thermogenesis. Not only is it counter productive and not sustainable long term, you're instilling horrible habits in the kids that will cause them to form new eating disorders if they don't cheat on the starvation diet (i.e. binge-purge, anorexia, etc.). None of the kids on the show that I know of were successful long term and it's no wonder why considering they weren't taught how to be successful.

I grew up in Montana ave Winter temp is 21 F which is -5 C. Ave winter temp in Sweden -3 (26.6F) to -22C (-7.6 F) depending on location. Not a huge difference really. The city I grew up in averages 158 days below freezing/year. So we both know cold weather. My original point holds the temp they use in the program is in F not C. C is a foreign language here. We don't hold with none of that fancy European stuff. :-)
