Probably not. My dad played favorites as a kid and I was just put on a pedestal cuz I didn’t cuz trouble. In school, teachers liked me as well but none of them would turn around and be like “why can’t yall be like D here?” I heard that at home all the time.

Being the favorite puts one at risk of being resented by others, especially if you're quiet and no one knows you well enough to know you're not stuck up.

I’ve just finished my first year of animation school and was immediately surprised, in a bad way, by the toxic competitiveness of that environment, even in a school that prided itself for having a familial and mutual aid spirit. Any student below average is ignored or pushed down by most teachers. “Good” students are forced to group together in projects to make sure they’re not “brought down” by students with lower grades. My feeling of surprise and disgust is probably silly and something any animation student goes through but your work does hit home with that. Awesome short film 💛💛💛

Please listen to an elder’s advice from an internet stranger: Never, EVER suppress your feelings and emotions. (Like calling them silly or generic) What you felt back then, and what you feeling today is VALID. Those things are what makes you, "YOU”. Don’t suppress yourself. And secondly, yes those situations you’ve been through is ridiculous. Including the school environment. These things shouldn’t be normalized at all! This industry is not okay, man. It should be called out, criticized, and fixed. So thank you for telling us what you’ve went through.

I am past my 40s and only until the lockdown i did not have time for creative endeavors (and still don't!😅) but now i do very brief or short animation projects for myself and to advertise my business. Can't afford to go to an 'animation school' whatever that currently is. It has come to my attention that lately there are proffesional artists (specially animators and illustrators) that suggest that people only lose their time at art school and animation school, when they should learn by themselves online instead, since most teachers are attached to outdated canons-principles-styles that keep holding back aspiring students. The push-down method used for average or below average students is not helping an already excedingly competitive arena. Imagine the lost oportunities missed when not letting a slow-learner prosper. Consider these points with their respective grains of salt. Make the best out of your lives and take the roads less travelled for once
